People who are unsaved sing this. I don't know why. It speaks of salvation but they ignore it.

Driving in the highlands in Scotland, I told my then husband I could hear bagpipes. He said I was imagining it. Lo and behold, we rounded a corner, and there was a solid Scotsman, dressed in his kilt, against a backdrop of a snow topped mountain, with a little tartan stool beside him for donations, playing the bagpipes. I have a photo of me standing beside him. It was one of the highlights of my trip.

My dad, a veteran, recently died of Covid-19 (as well as my mother). Amazing grace was played on the bagpipes at the funeral and it was the most majestic sound I ever heard. In the context of a funeral it absolutely will. I don’t cry, hardly ever but when I heard this in person while walking behind my last grandad’s (I have none now) hearse it hit me hard and unexpectedly.
The tears just flooded out of my eyes despite trying to fight them back. The silence after was the most surreal thing ever too. Any time I hear it, it transports me back in time to the exact moment I was walking down that street and I see everything I saw then in my mind.
I haven’t been to any funeral since, not out of disrespect but I just can’t go through it again. I make my own peace through never forgetting the people who die.

Being one of the hardest days of my life i some how made it. Most people love the bagpipes and will be moved by your solitary performance. Some may find peace in what they hear and you'll be able to tell your dad through song, thank you for the memories he made with you at the place you choose to play.

Amazing Grace was written by an English Man named John Newton. He was a slave trader and one night his ship was caught in a fierce storm. Newton thought that the ship would sink and all on board would die.....so he got on his knees and he swore an oath to God.....that if God allowed him to live.....he would renounce slavery and spend the rest of his days fighting against this evil.
The sea became calm....the storm subsided....and John Newton made it safely home to England.
He kept his promise to God. For the rest of his life, Newton fought against slavery. He eventually became blind.....hence the words of this beautiful hymn: "was blind....but now I see."
The meaning is obvious. Newton finally 'saw' how evil slavery was.......and he was saved. A true story....and a beautiful lesson for all of us who have sinned against God.....it is NEVER too late to repent and do the right thing.

To my great uncle Nicholas: I was only a young boy when my memories of you were engrained, but those memories will last forever. You were a gentle man. You made me laugh. I sat next to you in the kitchen and remember you used to make silly Turkey noises. As time came to pass, I learned what I never knew: you were a medic in the Battle of the Bulge. The memories you had were dark and listening to what my parents eventually told me, you were suffering. Great Uncle Nicholas, you laid asleep and are now resting without stress, anger, or poor memories. The most important thing to me are the happy memories you left me. Rest in peace great uncle Nicholas. I will never forget you.

Along with I Swear and Wind Beneath The Wings, this was played at my dad's funeral last week. It was a hard day for us all. This was in dedication to my dad and his family as he was 100% Scottish. Fly high with the angels, Dad. We will see each other again one day. Miss u always. xxxxxxxxx

@username unknown my dad said exactly the same thing, even though he never listened to bagpipe music.. and now he passed. I wonder if the uploader has an idea on how many funeral services this is played.. and how many find comfort in it.

Bagpipes are the knuckleball of instruments. Difficult to master but devastating in the right hands

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind but now I see
Was Grace that taught my heart to fear
    And Grace, my fears relieved
How precious did that Grace appear
    The hour I first believed
Through many dangers, toils and snares
    We have already come
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far
And Grace will lead us home
And Grace will lead us home
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind but now I see
Was blind, but now I see

When we’ve been there ten thousand years
      Bright shining as the sun
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
      Than when we first begun

First heard this when I was 12 years old, at family friend’s funeral. He was a policeman, murdered in the line of duty.
It shakes me to my core every time I hear it.
