Thanks for posting this 6 part series on restoring the persimmon driver. Found these videos very useful.
I watched the entire thing but did not see the reinstall of the whipping.
Good stuff John.. Thanks for sharing. I've bought a few MacGregor woods from him years ago. He does a great refinish job
Thanks for uploading all of these videos with Mike. I have a set of my grandfather's MacGregor Tommy Armour woods that I've long thought about having restored. After watching this I might just have to give it a go myself... After trying a set of less important clubs first of course.
Have you ever given any thoughts to making a playlist of this series so it's easier to watch without having to search out each episode?
Are there any alernative finishes to the poly? Say, could floor finish work like say a Rubio Monocoat?
Awesome , Lost Art of Craftsman Ship 👍🏼 Great Information !
I’ve just watched every club restoration video you’ve done. I work on mainly putters and wedges but persimmon is something I’ve never tried. Fantastic
What about water transfers on top of. Club?
I have a Chicago classic rg75 oil hardened driver . can you tell me who made these. someone said they were made by Macgregor. thanks
Hello. I like your videos. I noticed that many cannot be played in mini View because they are made for kids. I suggest you change that setting so that they are easier to view . you will probably get more views too
what is the stain color you use to refinish the vintage red Macgregor woods
Hi John
This is a great series, I'm glad I found it. Thank you.
I'm curious if I just missed it, but I didn't see the whipping being installed, and what glue is used for it. Please help.
Thanks again Bill
So the insert gets coated too? I thought it would crack on impact during use. That's how much I know.
mike Is there a video on how the retain or repaint the engravings?
I have used boiling water to remove everything from a gun stock before. Worked great.
29:40 - wow - what a transformation!
The problem with using poly-urethane is that it turns yellow after it dries.
what do you suggest other than Poly? Maybe just Tru-Oil?
must be $100 or more?
Really looking for a good tutorial on doing the whipping, can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm either getting it too tight and it breaks when trying to pull the end through, or too loose and it's all baggy
Whipping is a dark art.
Congratulations, you made what would've been an amazing series of videos unwatchable by never ceasing to talk from behind the camera.
