In this context, the term "Mad" should be understood as an appreciation and distinction of a non-conformist and exceptional way of behaving, also playing, or thinking in music. From my point of view or listening angle.
I met Craig Twister Steward and his wife Vicky in the summer of 1983. This was due to an invitation to the recordings of "I'm Alive", where he was supposed to add a special touch to some of the songs with his fantastic and impressive harmonica playing.
I still remember well that we held introductory rehearsals in advance, he in the USA, I in Switzerland, by telephone, at that time still landline, at 4 o'clock Swiss time in the morning, so that he could get an idea for his performance. With the receiver on the piano, I played the corresponding sequences for him in LA.

In 2011 I sent him an excerpt from ‘Damens ben Kleiders’, beginning with a harmonically strange, two-bar melodic intro in 5/4 time, then continuing in 5/4 into a bass line (e-eb-gb-g-f) with room to solo. Musically speaking, this is almost a toxic world for a harmonica. But not for the magician ‘Electric Twister.’ What he conjures up and how, with what sound and imagination, is just out of this world, simply marvelous!
In diesem Zusammenhang sollte der Begriff „Mad“ als Wertschätzung und Auszeichnung einer unkonventionellen und außergewöhnlichen Verhaltens-, auch Spiel- oder Denkweise in der Musik verstanden werden. Aus meiner Sicht oder Hörperspektive.
Ich lernte Craig Twister Steward und seine Frau Vicky im Sommer 1983 kennen. Das aufgrund einer Einladung zu den Aufnahmen von "I'm Alive" ein, wo er einigen Stücken mit seinem fantastischen und beeindruckenden Mundharmonikaspiel eine besondere Note verleihen sollte (und es auch tat).
Ich erinnere mich noch gut, dass wir im Vorfeld, er in den USA, ich in der Schweiz, per Telefon, damals noch Festnetzt, um morgens um 4 Uhr Schweizerzeit Einführungsproben abhielten, damit er eine Ahnung für seinen Einsatz erhalten konnte. Mit dem Hörer auf dem Flügel spielte ich die entsprechenden Sequenzen für ihn in LA.
2011 schicke ich ihm einen Ausschnitt von "Damens ben Kleiders“, beginnend mit einem harmonisch seltsamen, zwei Takte dauerndem Melodie Intro im 5/4 Takt, um dann weiter im 5/4 in eine Basslinie (e-eb-gb-g-f) mit Raum zum Solieren zu münden führen. Eigentlich musikalisch fast eine toxisch anmutende Welt für eine Harmonika. Nicht aber für den Zauberer "Electric Twister." Was er da was und wie mit welchem Sound und Fantasie hineinzaubert, das ist grad jenseits dieser Welt, einfach nur grossartig!
