    I'm no expert, but if you ladies and gentlemen are trying to retain length and grow hair long, BE CONSISTENT. If your hair is used to receive good loving' it will act right. A consistent and simple regime, listening to your hair ( so you can give it the right things), keep your ends trimmed and moisturized and being gentle will really help you. When I first started transitioning. I was always washing and conditioning and working with my hair. Couple that with taking care of myself ( good diet, exercise) it flourished! It was when I stopped, I have been really experiencing problems. But be consistent, take care of yourself and your hair and bee patient. Courage, y'all!!!

    i did not know what the baggy method was but, I mixed deep conditioner, oil, and conditioner and used it to detangle my hair. since it was night i put on a plastic cap to save my sheets and a microfiber towle. i went to bed woke up to rinse my hair and my hair felt like silk. omg so part of my routine from now on

    Such a beautiful African sister! Love the colors you are wearing. Love what you said about how important it is to love and take good care of ourselves. Also, no one likes to talk about this but sugar is a huge enemy of hair growth. Thanks so much for the video.

    Let's just be or continue to be honest with the fact of not everyone is going to be Rapunzal I feel that a lot of people went natural just for that "perk". We need to be 100% blunt and honest that genetics plays a huge role and usually wins!!!

    • @thekglifestyle
      @thekglifestyle  10 років тому +42

      A majority of people can grow their hair long regardless of genetics. Density, thickness, etc may vary but there is no gene that is passed down that says "you hair will break off after growing 4 inches". Lol, just a note that hair growth is about length retention. Now everyone doesn't WANT to grow long hair and that's completely fine. Shoot, I'm contemplating cutting mine off. O-O!

      I agree with you. Not everyone will have waist length hair no matter what they do or how long they let their hair grow. The speed at which your hair grows plays a major factor also. Some peoples hair grow fast and others grow slow. All these products out here.....nothing is going to make your hair grow faster. People take vitamins not realizing if they ate proper foods in their diet they would get the same results.

    I would say since 2006 the baggie method has been in play. I was a member of BHM (black hair media) from 2006-2013 when I stopped. I can't login for some reason. I started doing it in February 2006 and it helped me to avoid trimming for months on end.
    I grew my relaxed hair to 18 inches, then did a big chop in May 2011. My hair is now bra clasp length, even with a 2 and 5 inch trim last year. I put my hair in 2 afro puffs at night,moisturize with h20 and a tiny bit of care free curl gold at night. Then I put a sandwich bag on each puff and secure it with an elastic. This has helped me tremendously over the years with length retention. I remove it in the morning and style my hair in a bun and or in a hair claw!
    You have beautiful hair!

      Probably because long hair is seen as 'more beautiful' and cus so many other people have it makes others want it too - i agree with you but its not just hair sometimes. for a while before i started properly caring my hair grew about 1/10th of a centimeter a month to none.

      Don't buy into the standard of beauty you see on TV and in entertainment. If we all had long hair and looked alike, no one would be able to differentiate us. The beauty in people is our uniqueness. To be honest, I received more attention for my looks when I shaved my hair to go natural than when I had mid-back length relaxed straight hair. If everyone around you only likes one thing, maybe you need to go somewhere where people are more open-minded.

    • @ccnma
      @ccnma 9 років тому

      salorchi84 I know that TV isn't always real and don't relate it to my look and self esteem at ALL but not neccesarily everyone around us is the same and that's what i was talking about - i was talking about people in general (not all but many) if only everyone knew it how you do but not everyone does. No not all the people around me all think it just long hair thats nice and you probably got more attention because A) it's not common to see shaved women out and about and even if you do see that then it's not a popular look amongst us which is totally fine B) ignorance is bliss and people just think you look like their assumptions (which isn't right)

    • @Mikelle157

      I dnt understand why ppl always have a prob when a black person is doin what's necessary to have long, beautiful, healthy hair(caring for/loving their hair basically!). Black women can complement someone on a weave hanging all the way down their back,but let that hair be real(grown from your scalp) and that same person will instead hate on you! 😧😧😧😧 If u dnt care abt the health, lenghth/length retention of ur own hair lik alot of blk women(and as a result alot of ppl think were jus bald nappy headed weave wearer's! Even though a lot of us do have long hair, jus more of us have bad habits when it comes to our hair) thats ur choice,but dnt speak negatively abt those that do.

    Great, informative video! I disagree about deep conditioning overnight or more than 30 minutes, because the deep conditioner isn't effective after 30 minutes.

    • @thekglifestyle
      @thekglifestyle  8 років тому +9

      +Jazmin Jordan :) Thanks for watching! Even though the deep conditioner may "stop" working after 30 minutes the hair is still being moisturized (heavily) for an extended period of time, which can't be too bad for those with super dry hair. Xoxo

    great video. It's all about patience and a combination of your lifestyle. Also, protecting with braids helps because our hair needs to be "pulled" in order to grow. After all, isn't that why we kept our toddlers hair in plats "so it can grow."? Lol great points..keep up the good work!

    Love your videos!!! I do have a question about single strand knots. How do you prevent them? And when i see them is it unwise to cut them out? And what do single stand knots say about the health of your hair? Have a great day ;)

    • @thekglifestyle
      @thekglifestyle  10 років тому

      Thanks for watching love. SSKs are pesky and annoying! There is no way to completely prevent them when you have curly/kinky/coily hair. Some strands will always find a way to curl on themselves. The best way to deal with them is to get trims (I suggest about 2-3 times a year). I finger detangle and keep the utensils I use to a minimum so that I can recognize them with my fingers and try to save the hair that is caught in the knot. You can use coconut oil on your ends to help prevent them and help save the hair around them. When I find one I use some oil to slide up and unravel the hair that is caught on the knot and then cut out the knot. Hope this helps! :)
