  • Hey everyone, I hope you are all keeping well. In this video I attempt to fix a RING Indoor Camera with a dead short. Every time you plug it cuts off the power supply.
    Merch is here!!!!! www.puddlt.com/my-mate-vince

Remember that this is just for entertainment, and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series. Many thanks, Vince.

i love this series and channel, because of instead saying “ah they did it wrong, ah newbie mistake” and trying to teach the proper way (not that it’s wrong, it’s just repetitive) you actually mess around and find out, in the most entertaining way, also you contribute to lowering the thrown out, repeairable stuff, even if it’s by a small bit, you inspire me, trying to fix stuff without most of the proper tools is close to my situation, meaning that i don’t feel left out of a challenge only because of not having expensive tools, thank you for your service vince ❤

Hi Vince, next time a voltage regulator / buck converter fails remove it from the board and look up on the data sheet the output voltage .
Work out where the 3.3v or whatever is generated and inject with your power supply that voltage but current limited.
That way you will see if the device has just failed or the load is excessive .It will also mean you don’t have to buy the device to prove the fault .

Could even then flying wire some other regulator to supply the 3V to replace the 'proper' one. I shouldn't think these things have to provide a lot of power.

I still think you should buy the regulators. Not from the UK seller but from Ali express. I don't think that's the only time you'd need that type of regulator. Might be a common regulator in consumer electronics. So It won't hurt having some on hand.

There is no way to ensure the chips aren't recycled or rejects. It's common for Ali parts to work for awhile and suddenly die, or just not work at all. Lot's of counterfeits with no actual silicon too, just a blob of epoxy with pins and laser etched. It's pretty sad.

I'm fairly certain he damaged the second voltage regulator simply because he didn't identify the faulty component that killed the original voltage regulator. This component worked from factory, but something slowly degraded to cause that voltage reg to short to ground. Usually it's a capacitor out of spec. These voltage converters are programmable, meaning they use a series of resistors and capacitors to set the output rail. If there happens to be a faulty capacitor partially shorting to ground, it won't show up afterwards because the capacitor high side is floating. When he made the swap, the functional chip eventually failed as well because it was overdrawing current through that capacitor. They can only handle so much overdraw before they internally fail...which is what happened here.

@@biohaz360 because you never know if broker parts are old, were properly stored, are rebranded or something like that. It is just anoter potential fault you are buying. If no other options are available you can go that round but at mouser you van get them for a dollar plus 20 fpr shipping. and you will receive fresh genuine parts from an authorized seller.

@@crowbarviking3890 I agree for certain parts, like mosfets or low esr capacitors, but Digikey here in the States charges $7 minimum for shipping.
Ebay and Amazon also sell fake parts, hell even Walmarts app lists 1TB micro sd cards for $10, I'm sure those are real...

Hi Vince , I have been looking at your tutorials On Huawei internet Device, I have been lent a Huawei B315 with a antenna, which seems to sort of work I keep losing Internet every so often, One thing I’ve got to say I live in part of Royal France but I can’t find anybody that can help me I’m an old geezer who don’t know anything about Wi-Fi devices and modems and things, I’m looking to replace the B315 with a device if possible what would you recommend I’m obviously an antenna as well and it needs a Sim card in it so I can connect to the Internet my property at present does not have any means of telephone line or fibre connection, Part of the reason why I want to replace it is that I was lent it for my friend and I found out that he can gain access to my Internet and email address as he has all my information for me to login on my phone and iPad and devices so I need to replace the Huawei router with a new one, If you can help me please it will be very much appreciated, PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.

Friend of mine gave me one of those led bulb shaped camera which connects to a smartphone through wifi, it is stuck in blinking red light stage, i don't know what is the fault. Also I made the same mistake of unscrewing the lens part on camera. If anybody have any idea how to fix such issue please let me know here, it is powered by mains, and the power supply is fine, it is stuck in startup process somewhere, I have tried resetting few times but no luck.
