Pretty common thing for chaps to sell things pulled from the skip on ebay! Mostly what I have seen are things being sold as "untested" and "as is" are usually an indicator. Wonderful fix and video!

Nice fix @My Mate Vince. When you’re wondering about tactile switches and the direction they are always connected. Look at the flat metal legs and imagine the direction they enter the body of the button that they continue through to the other side. Because they do. They enter one side, go right through and come out the other side. So continuity will be present in the direction the metal leg faces. Pressing the button connects the metal strip one side to the metal strip the other side.

The seller did a lousy job packaging the radio. They just warped it like a birthday/Christmas present and sent it in the mail. They should of put it in a box with bubble wrap. Great job on the fix Vince.

Hi Vince, TSP or tri sodium phosphate (in crystals) is super cheap and diluteable in water. It is an awesome degreaser and mold controller. It s commonly available in hardware or paint stores (degreases walls: smoker's house for example.) t does leave a fine whiteish residue that keeps fighting mold if not rinsed or wiped off. Might work in Rolls Royces too. Kept in a moisture-free environment the TSP will keep for decades. Safe? Yes, it's also found in 'merikan breakfast cereals to preserve both 'freshness' and texture (assuming milk environment.)

A man after my own ❤️ heart. I like the idea of backup devices so much so I have 2 or 3 items of the same device. Always come in handy for the rest of the family who need certain devices, cheaper than buying new. I have to say though this is just revolting, all that green mould inside, honestly it's awful, makes me want to remove all the electronic bits and spray mould remover inside. That's the risk you run with ebay, as you have often said Vince.

  • @mark-andrews

I genuinely can say I found this video to be really interesting, not only the effort required to fix it but the diagnosis of the likely history, of the damaged device prior to purchase, and the reflection of the state of the market, which goes under the banner of 'EBay.'I'm not directing my negativity towards eBay it's just an avenue to make a quick buck, assuming a vendor can turn a profit, with the minimum investment, selling goods that have been dumped as rubbish, unfortunately I see how there is such a desperate need to make money, individual vendors will try anything to make money.

great tea-time break video Vince, yeah people on ebay shouldn't be selling things for excessive amounts, and list it as being either stored outside, or used outside, or salvaged from a skip. while not 100% fix, at least you found where the problem is, and got it working enough for the job it was intended for, yes would be better if 100% working, but still a fix none the less.

You will not believe the amount of electronics people are throwing out. And there are people (scavengers) that hang out at the recycling plant picking up the good stuff (and it ends up on eBay). Every day I went to the recycling station - there's at least 3 huge electronics pallets filled with MODERN oled screens of all sizes, Nvidia Gsync screens, Gaming laptops, digital radios like yours, and endless amounts of gadgets (this is in Sweden - in a small city of 13K people!) And it's EVERY DAY. It's crazy.

      2. speaker driver impedance ratings are individual ratings, and in this case they're simply wrong, stating 4 ohms instead of 8. not very good and I don't think I had come across that until now.
