    My god. Clear, concise, easy. I was worn out from long winded American descriptions.

    I just love this channel.
    It was recommended watching by UA-cam as I’d been looking for ways to deal with a wasps nest in my eaves.
    I’m now obsessed and thinking of trying beekeeping.
    Should a warm welcoming feel to your videos 👍🏻

      You'll like bees a lot more than you do wasps! LOL

    If you need a long vacuum cleaner tube, get one that has ridges on the outside and smooth on the inside !!!
    That way bees are not bouncing off lots of internal ridges, ouch ! Remember if they are free bees, make their extraction "as smooth as possible." 😉
    Also an air pressure 'gate'
    will mean you can reduce the suction %. Tip get a Collar to add to the hose coming out of the Ash Can (second Bee capture vessel.) Make a small rectangle slit in that out hose, if it's completely covered is 100% suction (to much) turn that over collar around a % so hole, say 60% covered, try again, and adjust collar as necessary.
    Tip : Try picking up Rice, Lentils etc (trial run) before doing it on live bees !!! 😏
    Better to thrash rice, than mash poor Bees... 👍

      Thanks for all the advice. I’ve been using the vac as it is for several years and never had a problem with damaged bees but I will look into your suggestions. Anything to make the experience better for the bees.

    Love my two bee vacs which get used quite a lot, yours does not offer a variated suction though, just full vacuum or none. Either way these make removing bees simpler. Thanks.

    i saw in one of your vids a real cool bee hive stand looked like out of 2x4 material ...would you happen to have plans on it i could sure use one!

    Would you think the ash can would benefit from having say foam on the floor to soften the fall for the bees on being drawn in or something similar?

    • @cotswoldbees
      @cotswoldbees  2 роки тому

      It’s an idea. I haven’t particularly found it to be a problem but anything that makes the experience more pleasant for the bees has to be a good thing. Foam rubber sounds like a good suggestion. Thanks.

    A very good video, but can you tell me if a domestic Henry vac will do the job instead of a commercial one with only one speed?

    • @cotswoldbees
      @cotswoldbees  24 дні тому

      The vac I’m using is a domestic one and has two speeds. I can’t comment on the one speed one as I’ve never used it. Sorry.

      I can’t find a makers name on it but it was just one I bought from Amazon about 10 years ago. I think any make will do.

    could you make a video of actually making the bee vac, where and how you cut holes, how you control the suction, did the ash can come with that filter. Thankyou.

    Many thanks for the very interesting and informative video on your bee vac. I am sure it’s the only way to remove bees from a roof or a ceiling. How are the bees doing that you removed from the church ?

    • @cotswoldbees
      @cotswoldbees  3 роки тому

      Hello. I’m glad you enjoyed it. If you mean the bees on the video I cut out it was a house and they are doing really well. They will go into a full sized hive in the next few weeks.

      Yes that is the one and it was very cold when you did the cut out. Delighted to hear they are doing well. Love a happy ending 😆

    Hi nice video thank you. Is there any reason why you couldn’t just use the vacuum cleaner without the ash can?
    Thanks
    Clive

    • @cotswoldbees
      @cotswoldbees  3 роки тому

      Yes - sucking the bees into a standard vacuum cleaner will not work as you will damage the bees and almost certainly clog up the vac. Also the supply of air for the bees in the cleaner will be insufficient for them.

    • @cotswoldbees
      @cotswoldbees  3 роки тому

      It’s also really easy to get them out of the can using an ash can. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. All the best.

    Heretofore all of the beekeepers I've seen do not have a two part vacuum setup. Just one vacuum with one reservoir, and yet these are perfectly safe for the bees. So I am curious about this difference. The ash can+regular household vac rig seems rather awkward.

    • @cotswoldbees
      @cotswoldbees  2 роки тому +2

      I find the two part system is less violent for the bees. It can be a bit cumbersome but I don’t collect too many swarms this way and do it works for me.

    Full power? Really? Also pipe is ribbed. Should be smooth. Surprised you get any alive.

    • @cotswoldbees
      @cotswoldbees  27 днів тому

      You would be surprised how little suction you get with the ash can in between the vacuum and the pipe. Using this method is always a last resort and only used where you can’t physically get your hands on the colony. You would be surprised how few casualties there are.
