During the birth of my 3rd child I had a prolapsed cord that nearly killed her. They had to perform an emergency C-section immediately and didn’t have time to wait for me to be fully numbed before starting. Imagine that experience, it definitely gave me PTSD. By the time they got her out she wasn’t breathing and her heart was stopping. They rushed her out to try and save her life. Thank god our hospital had a doctor who specializes in therapeutic hypothermia treatment, therapeutic hypothermia, and treatment was started immediately. We were so beyond thankful she was alive but we were told the chances of her surviving were extremely slim. We were told first big hurdle was when the treatment was done which took 3days watching our lifeless baby lay there. She was a big beautiful baby, looked perfect and healthy but no signs of life except for the machines she was connected to. We were told IF she wakes up we needed to understand more than likely we will have a life long uphill battle dealing with a list of issues she most likely would have. They didn’t even try to pretend there was hope. I didn’t want to accept that and needed something to hold on to do I kept pressing the doctor asking more questions. He told me I needed to understand the chances of her surviving and not having permanent damage would be under 7%. Not only did she wake up she showed no signs of permanent damage like expected. She was fully walking at 9 months, her first words were purple and alligator (not even exaggerating!) and today at 8 yrs old she is in the same grade as her 10yr old sister. That experience definitely took a few years off my life but I’m so beyond grateful for the miracle of my baby girl surviving and thriving. Beyond grateful!! Later I found out the entire experience was caused by my doctor’s negligence. The only reason my daughter survived to begin with was the amazing nurse who did everything right and then some even though that meant going against what the doctor told her to do.
Hello, I was reading your story and it sounded eerily similar to mine. Like almost identical. I had a cord prolapse in hospital during my induction and was rushed into an emergency c-section without anesthesia. No anesthesiologist was in the building so they performed my cesarean with IV narcotics only. My son was unresponsive and taken to the NICU where he was in a hypothermic state for 3 days as well. When he woke up he was completely fine! We did spend 18 days in the NICU, but received a clean bill of health. He is doing amazing now at 15 months and there is no cause for concern. I just wanted to comment and say I’m so happy to hear your baby girl is healthy and doing so well 8 years later! ❤️
I think you said “party decoration for the uterus” when referring to the prolapsed cord. I almost spit out my tea! I won’t forget that anytime soon. :) Thanks for wonderful instruction. It’s very helpful. Thanks!
Hi, I like your presentations very much! I had a vback at 40 years old. I had to change doctors mid gestation because the first one would not go along with my desire to have a vaginal delivery. All went well!! thanks so much
My first birth with my son was shoulder dystocia, pushed for 6hours they yelled to stop pushing after so long and several doctor's came in and pulled him out, baby came out not breathing completely blue and cord around neck , he finally started crying after a couple minutes of a breathing thing. I had no clue what was going on. The doctor didn't really explain shoulder dystocia she said it was just a broken collar bone. I ended up googling what happened and didn't even realize how serious it was. I had 4th degree tearing. I read in the discharge papers I had shoulder dystocia birth. My son is speech delayed. And has his first neurology appointment soon. I'm pregnant again was told I need a C-section. That scares me too.

They should have done the C-section the first time around. It's not worth it to risk a child's life just because someone believes in natural birth.
