I turned 30 last summer. Discovered both of these guys' channels right at the beginning of the lockdown in 2020 when i moved back in with family and got back into skating. So thankful i did after not being on a board for 7+ years, it keeps me sane, happy, and healthy!
I had the same thing happen, and I’m better now than when I was a teenager. So happy I picked it back up
same. so glad I did, I could listen to these guys to no end. great guys, good content
I’ve never flat-spotted a formula 4. I’m 200 pounds and have been riding them for 3-4 years now!
Enjoy videos with you and Dan
This is really high level advice that may not regularly accesible to people living in smaller populations with less skaters. Great video and review!
as an over 30 skateboarder this stuff is the kind of content I dig. Your the man Ben 🙌
Funny, as a 34 year old skateboarder this is the kind of content where I wonder why anybody would ever give a crap about this trivial stuff
❤🇫🇷
38 here, I think I found new friends 😂
Dan's set up looks like if you flipped it over and shook it a bunch of hair and crumbs would fall out
and pennies too
It probably smells peculiar too.
@@tima8049 smells damp
Lmao
Ew
That was a great, authentic ,real conversation About skating. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Very informative, Thanks Ben & Dan.
I love the information. I followed Dan is well and at 55 there's always some good info. Ride until you drop 🤘
Great video and energy and vibes and articulation.
I have been heavily digging all of the content you made while in Cali. Great stuff!
Been waiting for this video for long enough thank you!
Great video guys! I follow both of you and I always learn something each video I watch! I have been a Powell Peralta guy for apprx. 30 years.
Dan's right on.F4's definitely flatspot and wear down quicker. STF don't, but also don't feel as good.
Nearly on 100k well deserved Ben
Yuup, front toe side for me too. Also, I'm 45 now and skate almost every day. You two dudes are two of my favorite skaters and content creators. Please never stop!
Ben, Dan, and Vic... That'd be a dream sesh for me to be on lol. Raddest dudes 👊
Toe side front wheel is always first to cone and I’d say 99% with confidence it’s from turning as my level of skill is not on par with either of your good selves so the turning must be causing this. Another great detailed video too 👌 love these 👊
Much love and respect to you and your channel Ben.
The Magicians setup is amazing looks great. Dan has such amazing board control.
The collab i been waiting for aha
19:45 I've used the small end of a skate tool for this. The outside edge of the part of a t-tool that you use for tightening hardware is really close to the inside diameter of the outer ring of a bearing.
Loved this great to see any skaters thinking on setup Regards from the UK
Enjoyed every second
Ya for sure .. you two rock
Hell yeah Victor's here, too!
I skate Acid Chem Co REM formula too and I really like them. One thing that was different about them is that the bearings are a VERY tight fit, they're definitely not going to get tweaked by lateral pressure/impact
ive got some nice santa cruze deck rails that are very rounded and the ends curve away from your wheels for more clearance. love flight decks i have both of andys, nice setup dan! love watching u guys sk8
Wow, look at that! You gained a subscriber from Dan’s channel.
Angle gauge is also great for measuring angle of pop :) since that ones magnetic it sticks to the bolts and then you can tip the board
I love you guys both!! Fucking siiiick❤
To be fair, I'm 31 and subbed to both of you, soooo yeah
As a nearly 20 year golf pro and 14 of those have been a master fitter.... I loved this vid. ❤️ Dan is awesome and always enjoy his vids. Thanks for this ☺️
Cool - really I like the setup talk.
I must say, your laugh at 7:18 was beautiful!
Hey Ben. Started in the 70's but been on board non stop since 1983, so 40 years straight of skating. Front toe side for me as well on the wheel cone. I rotate them by eyeing the wear, so either diagonal or just straight switching the front and back depending and start at a 54mm. Currently riding Dragons 54MM X 32MM
really good duo right here, woulda loved to see a game of skate with u two
Dan's sweater is on point.
Tic tacs are what wear out the toe side front wheel. Even if you ride loose trucks, you’re bound to do little tic tacs when doing little turns. It’s usually the back ones. Because your front foot naturally dips towards the toe when you turn, you usually drag your front wheels even if it’s just for a fraction of a second before you put your wheels back down.
Thanks vic
Another great vid, keep it up fellas
#SkateOrDie
I have never seen the pivot fakie late regular before. Super sick!
I love this park, I skated this stage with the big green trash can when I was a teenager, I love the feeling of being there, legendary stage in long Beach. Now I'm almost 40 and I just want to go back to get the feeling of being there, even if I just do a olie down the stage
Soooooo rad to see lol it's like you have your favorite dc hero randomly show up on the comic book of your favorite marvel hero. Given that you are a huge fan of both, of course.
You guys are both legendary 💯🙏🛹
Talking about getting the bearings out of a tight wheel, I've always just used the truck, screws the threads up after a few times doing it but at that point you're getting ready to swap out your trucks anyways
Ben with the Slappy connoisseur himself.
Have been a fan of both Powell Peralta and Independent Trucks for decades now. Only trucks will ever buy and other than maybe 1-2 other companies only decks I buy or skate, one other company being the OG of the industry Santa Cruz (VX decks or Everslick ©) I still mess with truck height and I'm 43 but do prefer the mids as well in Hollow's or Titanium.
same! front toe side wheel for sure. then back toe side :p
Same- front toe. It’s just from riding flat ground. I think my normal weight distribution is a bit more toe side than heel, and my front truck is my turning truck so it’s a bit looser and takes more weight. Also, if I’m turning around it’s easier to turn backside than front, so I do it more often.
i knew this videos would come
My front toe side wheel also is always the first to cone. I assume just from a ridiculous amount of fakie pivots. Every time I don’t land a trick I usually step back on, roll away switch and then do a fakie pivot to regular before trying again.
Dan with Ben, a pleasant surprise!
same thing here with the wheel wear, conical fulls help wear less but you still have to rotate the front toe wheel with others to keep a set going when they are radial full or classic shape for me or it totally cones out.
Ben, same: my front toe-side wheel cones first and I have no idea why. I ride almost exclusively transition
My most worn wheel is always front toe side and I do believe it’s from fakie kick turns or slappy crooked grids on curbs. If the curb is low enough, that wheel ever so sightly drags on the ground.
Now I want to get a tape measure and nerd out on my board.
Ah, when he said "the above 30s" I felt personally attacked ... Dammit. lol.
It’s always front toe side wheel for me and it’s from nose slides for me 🤙🏻
I skate spitfire f4's , conical full, theyre the best wheel Ive ever rode, and I finally switched to them from the classics, they havent flatspoted at all its been 2 years since, also they have a distinctive bark when you nose, tail, blunt ect.
Damn Ben, with all the stats!
crossover of the century
The big nose is why I like the Andy Anderson flight deck (the first one) quite a lot. The downside is how it is a fairly big board of course, but the nose is less of a problem and way more of an advantage to me.
I like Powell shapes so I picked up a 243 flight deck and the shape is glorious and I love everything about the decks but man the fiberglass shards from skating crusty Midwest spots is brutal. I just can't do it. I'm actually having a lot of fun skating weird shaped decks like the Welcome Darklord right now.
My back toe side wears out but I do a ton of shuvits varial flips, BS 180, shuvit revert etc.. so for me it adds up why.
Dude i thought i was the only one! That fiberglass shit that stabs ur thumbs is so goddam annoying!
Never flat spotted F4s but I have flat spotted Acid REMS before funny enough. Front toe side wheel cones out for me first as well.
Tom Penny in his prime rode 7.5” decks with 8” axle Indy’s, so by those standards 8.5” deck on 9” trucks should even be fine.
Good video king
looks good
Dan is probably one of my favorite skaters to watch skate. He has such a wild original slappy style and absolutely shreds.
Front toeside for me aswell. It's always been that way from doing reverts after I've landed fakie.
I always cone my front toe wheel more and I'm pretty sure it's because I slide my wheels when I quick turn from fakie to forward, on flat and transition
F4 flat spotted for me within the first week. I like to skate fast so I just slid extra to even them out. and then they ended up being my favorite wheel because of the shape and I felt they slid better than STFs.
What shape?? I've never flatspoted any f4 spitfires and I've have like 5 sets
Please do more collabs with Dan!
I have the same exact issue with wear on my front toe-side wheel. I assume it’s from turning on trucks that are a little tighter, which might increase the pressure vs looser trucks. Dunno 🤷♂️
Front toe side wheel cones most for me too. I know I'm a heavy toe side turner and I take more right turns. It's hard to take sharp left turns without slamming. Also, I've never flat spotted a Spitfire, but they definitely wear down fast-ish.
I always get front toeside wheel wearing down/coning too, my theory is noseslides or how i'm riding/turning as you said
Hey Ben looking at thunder trucks to buy what do you recommend in thunders …hollow lights? Also where is the best place in Canada to order these
Ben is a cool dude
Back toeside. I do lots of shuv it's and 360 reverts.
159 on a 8.5 board with "inverted" kingpins, my madness approves.
i'm regular footed and also cone out front toe-side wheel first/most
Me too
i have powell ribs and also hacked off the tapered edges because i like my rail a bit further out and my wheels kept biting
Mine cone front toe side as well. Nollie shuvs ? Heel flips?
Ben, Front toe side for me wears out first.
Dan, Can you comment on any adjustments you make when your wheels are wider than your board? For me, they have to be flush or inside a bit. Otherwise I run over my toe. I can't get the effect of this out of my head LOL.
Ben said his front toe side wheel are the smallest one. Its the same for me, and toe side wheels in general takes more pressure for me.
I would guess its just how you skate, or if your board wants to go a bit left as a regular skater you might put a bit more pressure toe side high up on the board when you push especially 🤷🏻♂️
Anyone else who get one smaller wheel after a while?
🔥🔥🔥
you can always tell it's Dan by his bushings going crazy micro squeeks LOL
My front toe side wheel always cones first from kickturning on concrete ramps
Front toe side wheel is always the one that cones for me. I think it's from turning backside at the end of a line to go back the other way. It's not trick related for me.
Yep. Front toe wheel always is worn down first. That's why rotating the wheels makes them last longer. I'm surprise more skaters don't do this or talk about it in vids.
Dan spending the whole paycheck on a fresh fit for Papa Ben's channel 👌 Those 2.5 subs just clocked over to 3.
Front toe side for me, it's from kick turns on banks, similar to what Dan said.
My front toe side wheel cones a lot and I have to agree with Dan I think it’s from whipping fakie
do a review pf the stage 4s!!!!
Yeah, WTF. Ben slacking on the most earth shattering news in decades
Ben , please do a review on the Slappy hollows . Thanks . God bless brother !it's
F4s never flatspotted for me and I do Powerslide all the time.
Didnt try stf.
Other wheels definetely flatspot for me.
Impressed that the dragons did not flatspot either. Probably because they Slide so nicely on rough ground.
my front toe sides wheel also wears out quickly. I think it's because of tic-tacs and kickturns
Dan don't be so stressed out. You are a cool guy with cool setup!
Nice
My front toe side wheel always ends up coned as well 🤷♂️
