I’m a shoe designer. I can tell you that the signature last resort shoe being discussed is made in a style that often referred to as “whole-cut” meaning most of the shoe is made of one piece of material (if you follow the main panel there’s only one seam at the heel with no other breaks). The main reason for doing this traditionally is for a clean minimal aesthetic but I guess an added benefit in a skate shoe would be the less seams there are the less seams there are to come apart. Laid flat this piece looks like a big U shape. This type of shoe is expensive to make as you can cut less of these big U shapes from one piece and material, it’s cheaper to have a multi-panel design with many smaller pieces (like a Cariuma for example). I say this to say, just because the shoe has a minimal look, aka “the most basic shoe ever” doesn’t mean it is basic or not good value. I haven’t owned either and I’m not biased (but Cariuma is wack)

Seen this dude Dan at a park in SD once, he showed up early am visibly dirty and shunned all the locals who were already there. His van was absolutely horrendous as well, garbage and dirty clothes covered the floor and backseat. He got some interesting tricks to say the least but all in all his vibe was crazy.

This guy goes to my local park on Saturday mornings and literally ruins the scene by doing skate lessons for 10-15 kids. The parents stand on the side gossiping like soccer parents while all the kids roll around like chickens w their heads cutoff. He’ll just stand there watching the kids and takes their parents money. And doesn’t even try to be cool w the locals, no hi’s or hello’s just flashes weird judgemental looks over our way. And to be honest, I did try to say what’s good to him to be cool but he wasn’t havin it. Just looked me up and down and turned away. Who knows the stuff he says to all these kids and parents but I’m sure I’m he’s influencing them all in bad ways, talking shit on everything great about skateboarding and hyping up all the bad…

I’m in the UK and the banner advertisement under this video is for Cariuma shoes.. the prices are £80 to £130, they look like ass and overpriced ass at that. They should have named the company Cashina.
Nike did not come into the scene easily… they wore me/many down by sheer attrition; so I like the flick of a Blazer what of it? I’m weak! I’m weak ok, and they flick so fine. Lakai, Vans, (and now) Nike are in my rotation. But for real, glad to see someone calling out problematic behavior in the space we all cherish so much.
Personally, I like dans skating and I actually found that the Catibas skated like any other vulc skateshoe, with MAYBE a slightly softer insole than other shoes. But I have a hard time wearing them when the people defending them sound like this. There's no problem if you wanna wear cariuma on a small scale, it's just like supporting any corporation like Nike or Adidas. Hell I work in a skateshop that sells cariuma alongside vans and lakai. Use your own money to support what you want and what works for you on a personal level. Just be mindful of who it impacts, like if you want to support cariuma, try to find a shop that does sell them, you know!!

I was beefing Cariuma in the berrics comments and they said they stock them in over 300 skateshops, which I'm convinced is just a lie - I went onto their websites and they don't seem to have any skateshops at all as stockists??
Nike made the right decision and actually contributed to the skateboarding industry as a whole. The Janoski is one of the most successful shoes and most simplistic shoes at the same time. A good all round shoe for skating or not skating. They ticked the boxes skaters cared about. Cariuma seems to pop up out of nowhere, offering NOTHING to the skateboarding community and wanting to make sales. GTFOH. Skaters can see the Unauthenticity of their ad campaigns and promotions, Nike actually helped to elevate skateboarding as a whole and has proved that they actually care about skateboarding.
I had to give Dan a ride to the hospital after he split his gooch open back around 2012 maybe. He was visiting CA. I know if something that drastic happened to me ide remember the person that gave me a ride, you don't forget something like that. Fast Forward to now Dan is still a kook. I should have left him at the park.

i like Dan and lifted tater, they both have very different views and perspective and video styles, i like seeing calm videos of dans and more critical videos of Mr hater
One of Dan's recent videos, where he does some proper street skating around LA, was genuinely decent. I'm not about the weird children's skatepark content though when he lives in California and has all the cool street spots at his disposal

Omg! This episode is a masterpiece.
Seen this dude Dan at a park in SD once, he showed up early am visibly dirty and shunned all the locals who were already there. His van was absolutely horrendous as well, garbage and dirty clothes covered the floor and backseat. He got some interesting tricks to say the least but all in all his vibe was crazy.
This is like the 3rd story I've heard about his van and based off of him snaking people the way he does in his videos, not hard to imagine he's got a bad vibe around him

The bottom line is Cariuma is whack and only here to capitalize on the popularity of skateboarding. They bring nothing to the skateboard community no innovation in shoes the same eco-friendly marketing/materials companies Have been using for years.Them paying the 1% that is professional skateboarder‘s decent money does nothing for us the average Joe Skateboarding community. it only brings in more money driven people and corporations looking to profit off you and your toy. Like grosso said years ago skateboarding is becoming closer and closer to some sort of weird little league sport and we don’t need to let that happen! Let’s not make this dan vs the gifted hater let’s make this skateboarders vs corporations just trying to profit off us!
This guy goes to my local park on Saturday mornings and literally ruins the scene by doing skate lessons for 10-15 kids. The parents stand on the side gossiping like soccer parents while all the kids roll around like chickens w their heads cutoff. He’ll just stand there watching the kids and takes their parents money. And doesn’t even try to be cool w the locals, no hi’s or hello’s just flashes weird judgemental looks over our way. And to be honest, I did try to say what’s good to him to be cool but he wasn’t havin it. Just looked me up and down and turned away. Who knows the stuff he says to all these kids and parents but I’m sure I’m he’s influencing them all in bad ways, talking shit on everything great about skateboarding and hyping up all the bad…

Personally, I like dans skating and I actually found that the Catibas skated like any other vulc skateshoe, with MAYBE a slightly softer insole than other shoes. But I have a hard time wearing them when the people defending them sound like this. There's no problem if you wanna wear cariuma on a small scale, it's just like supporting any corporation like Nike or Adidas. Hell I work in a skateshop that sells cariuma alongside vans and lakai. Use your own money to support what you want and what works for you on a personal level. Just be mindful of who it impacts, like if you want to support cariuma, try to find a shop that does sell them, you know!!
“Skateboarding is not that deep” no true skater would ever say this. Skateboarding is deep… it’s the root of any true skaters happiness and there is so many levels to it. I had to unsubscribe to Dan after he posted this shit.. I already was on the fence about the dude but the amount of ignorance in 22 minutes was unmatched thus far. Sorry Dan but we skate for a reason and if you think skateboarding isn’t “deep” or hate on people that choose to spend their money on brands they like then you sir are the problem. Dude is pushing 40 with no real job and is not an actual skate team. He need those sponsors like a fresh 18 year old moving out the house to pursue skating career. I was beefing Cariuma in the berrics comments and they said they stock them in over 300 skateshops, which I'm convinced is just a lie - I went onto their websites and they don't seem to have any skateshops at all as stockists??

Nike made the right decision and actually contributed to the skateboarding industry as a whole. The Janoski is one of the most successful shoes and most simplistic shoes at the same time. A good all round shoe for skating or not skating. They ticked the boxes skaters cared about. Cariuma seems to pop up out of nowhere, offering NOTHING to the skateboarding community and wanting to make sales. GTFOH. Skaters can see the Unauthenticity of their ad campaigns and promotions, Nike actually helped to elevate skateboarding as a whole and has proved that they actually care about skateboarding.
I had to give Dan a ride to the hospital after he split his gooch open back around 2012 maybe. He was visiting CA. I know if something that drastic happened to me ide remember the person that gave me a ride, you don't forget something like that. Fast Forward to now Dan is still a kook. I should have left him at the park.
