Thomas!! Hey Bro call me when you get to Austin!! So great to find you here! Miss ya Bro. WE had a blast touring the world with FZ! We were blessed. God Bless you bro. Leon
To not only tech for Vai, but Frank Zappa!!! Wow, I bet it was not only insanely fun, but had to be, at times, maddening! I'm surprised he has any hair left! XD
What a champ! As a huge fan of the "jam band" genre myself, I just think this rig would be epic for a more modern group like STS9 to improvise with on stage!
AFAIK he was also responsible for setting up the Duran Duran house in Battersea, London - the place they practised until they were ready to go to the studio to record. Besides being awesome, Thomas is also the undisputed king of Velcro :)
Robert Fripp can eat his heart out considering his gadget loaded guitar, and "lunar module" rig... nice to see that Thomas has understood the headless benefits, but I would be totally lost on that "chessboard" colored fretboard...:-). This was quite amusing actually. I mean, c'mon both a Sustainiac pickup for endless sustain, and an e-bow stuck on a velcro strip ON the guitar...hedging the bets if one systems battery should drain, all of a sudden....jeez....
The undisputed mad scientist of music gear.

Thomas you're a genius!
Very cool indeed.
So the white guitar shows the black and white notes on the fretboard? As in the black and white keys on a piano?
It looks like it! How cool is that?

He has my former high school guitar teacher's fretboard system on his guitars. 0_o
Vai's 'Ultrazone' guitar rarely ever worked for live performances.
