@@jj2000100 thorium reactors, if made economical, can become game changer. Thorium is very abundant in india(especially kerala). Thorium reactors is the safest form of nuclear energy. It is naturally run-away/overheat/explosion proof. It can also consume nuclear waste from traditional nuclear reactors. Thorium reactor waste have very low radiation duration (100s of years instead of 1000s of years)
@@jj2000100 burning coal spits a lot of nuclear waste directly into the air with other harmful chemicals. Nuclear waste from reactors are very low quantity and contained. The only issue is that it needs to be stored indefinitely, and need cooling.
There is also breeder reactors that can convert nuclear waste to less harmful waste. Modern reactors are very safe technology, with many redundancies built in. They are expensive compared to cheap renewables like solar, but they can produce electricity 24*7
@@Taju201 right.. but then that begs the question, why thorium based reactors are not very common? As far as i know, India is one of the leading countries when it comes to thorium based reactor technology.. but even we are focusing more on uranium based reactors..
