    The Wii sensor bar is essentially a long housing with two infrared diodes at either end. These lights are detected by the infrared sensor behind the lens on the top of your remote and then transmitted back to the console for it to determine where you're trying to aim. The candles emit the same infrared light and so they can act in place of actual diodes of light.

    • @Chevsilverado
      @Chevsilverado Рік тому +9

      I always assumed it was reversed and the wii remote gave off an infrared light and the sensor bar picked it up and the wii processed it. That’s really cool how it really works and I guess the Wii remotes are a lot more than glorified tv remotes.

    • @thegreenbean6777
      @thegreenbean6777 Рік тому

      But how does that transmit back onto the screen if nothing is plugged into the console?

    • @Chevsilverado
      @Chevsilverado Рік тому +1

      @@thegreenbean6777 The Wii remote has a wireless connection to the console. When you press the buttons to do the pairing thing it sets up some sort of connection like Bluetooth.
      Idk why they did it like that instead of using the sensor bar as a sensor and having the IR come out of the remote, it certainly would’ve made the remote simpler and smaller, but that’s how it works.
      However the Wii remote does use accelerometer data to do gestures too so maybe processing all of that stuff together on the Wii remote was better than trying to send a stream of accelerometer data and IR data to the Wii console then processing it there. They could process and combine the data in the controller then send it all at once as a single stream. I guess it was a matter of latency and bandwidth.

    • @Chevsilverado
      @Chevsilverado Рік тому +6

      @@AcousticJammTheGamer the sensor bar isn’t what’s connected to the Wii remote and the cable coming out the back of the sensor bar is actually just only to power LEDs and no data is transferred to the Wii from the bar.
      The connection between the Wii remote and the Wii is through wireless chips not IR so the sensor bar serves only as a LED light source without any sort of sensing. So if you replace the bar with candles, the Wii remote senses the candles, processes it, then sends it to the Wii via a different wireless system. No data is transferred from the red thing at the end of the Wii remote to the sensor bar.

    After two flames are confirmed to work as sources of infrared light for the Wii remote infrared camera for (visual odometry) tracking, it is ironic that further "testing" of the system (comments around 3:00) is demonstrated using Wii Sports because it does not use information from the infrared camera for any gameplay (the application-level exception being menu navigation via pointer).

    I guess this means that the sensor doesn’t send any information to the wii via the cord. The Wii is just a power source for the lights that the remote picks up on and then the remote sends that info to the console.
    That is wild to learn.

    The bar is two points of infrared light. Heat gives off infrared wavelength. The remote has an infrared reader or receiver.

    As far as I know in games where you don’t need to point at your screen, like wii sports, the wii motion control in your wiimote does everything for you so technically the Sensorbar or the candles are only necessary for the little hand to appear with which you can choose like the different sports and like in baseball where you just perform a motion the sensorbar doesn’t do anything (or candles)

    The sensor bar is simply an IR Emitter. Fire emits IR light, so you can use candles as a sensor bar. Seems like a good way of playing your Wii after the apocalypse... If you some how need to power your Wii but not your sensor bar.
