thanks for the vid - love it. I was just thinking about "train luck" - I don't do a bunch of railfanning, but I can go months and nearly every outing I see something cool, but then the tide will turn and I go months where every outing is a total bust, Train luck is a fickle beast.
You’re in good company man! Glad it’s not just me! I don’t have the issue with UP trains, I can cheat…so I get a dose of reality when I go after anything else!
I was headed home from Lakeview last week and pulled into the Crooked River High Bridge, cool little park but no trains. I use to cover this territory on weekends off and vacation for the MTO at the Dallas, we had a UP local that would work the Bend Branch, ran a few beets trains out of Metolius , but that was 25 years ago. Then in 2004 UP detoured trains over the Bend Branch, I was sent to the Dallas to coordinate crews coming out of Eugene or the Falls. Had a lady MOP from Omaha piloting trains, she got Engineer Hardy and crew pass their limits. They stopped and got a new warrant to proceed. She ratted her self out to the General Director when the crew got to the Dallas, he pulled her license for 30 days. 😂😂
The ferromex was a good catch. I've been skunked a couple of times biking the lower deschutes trail. Weekends seem to be best for the trunk. I'm thinking of trying the spot you started at in February. Thanks for the video
That crooked river canyon area is really cool to see in person. Drove through there a few times, but didn't know it was there the first time until we crossed the highway bridge and was like Wow!! what is this? Had to stop at that overlook area you filmed from. Really amazing to see.
Yeah, one time I went 20 years ago without a camera and saw a train every hour one afternoon. Including the UP local with caboose! Oh to have had a camera then!!
I went to high school in Madras and bought a farm house just south of it on the Culver Highway. But when I was in high school, I walked under that trestle every day as I lived just at the top of the Willow Creek road, called Glass Dr. I used to see Santa Fe red and silver war bonnets several times a day. Traffic has dwindled quite a bit over the decades. The Bend local is an interesting train to catch here, it's furthest northern stop is Madras at both Brightwood and Albina Fuel. They also switch a fertilizer company across the tracks from Brightwood. Great catch, sorry Central Oregon couldn't give you a good show. Still a good video though, I like your style. Dave B.
That is pretty cool! Madras seems like a great place to live to me. It’s gorgeous. I really want to get back and catch that local. Thanks for the tips as well! That really helps!
Visiting there, I found this bridge so remarkable! Not having been through central Oregon before, I was quite anxious to see it. Driving along, looking for it, I wondered where it would be… And then, very suddenly, we were there! My heart stopped as I looked down that chasm! Incredible! STRAIGHT down!!!!! What an awesome sight! Another super video! Thanks again for sharing!
@@pacificrailproductions5281 “Very extreme” is an understatement!!!! As you look down the road (if you’ve never been there), you can’t imagine that you’re about to ‘fall into’ such a deep canyon! You’re just suddenly THERE!! Looking over the edge is like stepping out of an elevator on the 81st floor and being right at the edge of the building! Took my breath away!! (Although I recovered enough to walk across it - just had to!) Thanks again! It was a great ‘re-visit’ !!!!!!
Two great bridge locations! Try to catch the local building a train in Metolius or serving customers in Culver, then the City of Prineville RR is not far to the east either for some great shortline action.
Outstanding suggestion. I will admit I’m very unfamiliar with the operations so that sounds like something I can work with. John thank you. I’ll be going back soon!
Impressive shots!
Thanks for posting.

Oh man! I worked with Hardy. He was a great engineer. That was a neat thing they got to run up the Bend line. Wish I could have done that!

I can relate! As a kid, it drew me in the first time I drove through. Thanks for the thoughts!
Another great video. I've railfaned this line several times and the pickens are slim

@@johnpetrovitz935 well said! I get that feeling every time I’m there!
I do believe you can still find my fingerprints from the grip I had on the railing!

Hey I think you made the best of what you got!
I felt good about it all things considered! 😁
How does this work? I subscribed and liked. Does that make me a rail fan now? 🥰
Welcome to foamer-dom hun. You’re a part of the club…even if it is through our sons channel! Now you see what I do instead of going to the bar! 🤣
Have you got more Harrisburg videos yet?
No, I’m working on a couple others currently. But thanks for the interest!
How do we end up with Ferromex engines so far north?
I’m not sure, but I see them a few times a year up here on UP
Hello. Klasse video 🎥👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍. Thanks... Fim 🚂👮♂️✋
