Scleral 1.0 Example

This is an example of what we call a first-generation scleral lens. These lenses are found in scleral lens "kits" that have multiple shapes and prescriptions. These standard lenses are inserted into the eye and shape changes are estimated using the naked eye. Considering that shape changes are usually on the order of 10-50 microns (1-5% of a MILLIMETER!) you can imagine that making those changes with the naked eye would lack accuracy!
