  • Step-by-step guide on how to replace / remove / change factory stereo unit on Ford F-150 pickup truck. ( 2009 | 2010 | 2011 | 2012 | 2013 | 2014 | XL | XLT | LARIAT | FX4 | LIMITED | PLATINUM | KING RANCH | 5.4L ).
To remove the factory radio you will need a plastic trim removal tool and a ratchet with 7mm socket attached. To start, remove the rubber cover on the top of the middle dashboard insert. Then remove two top mounting screws (7mm). Now pop out grey side vent covers. You don't have to remove the completely, just enough to give you space to pop out the middle dashboard insert. Pop out the middle insert and disconnect top two electrical connectors. Remove four 7mm screws which are holding the radio in place. Pull out the radio and disconnect all the wiring behind it.
If you are replacing factory radio with another factory radio from a different Ford, make sure to get a radio code for it. If you don't have it the radio might be locked and you will have to contact Ford dealer for the code.
In case you are replacing factory radio with an aftermarket radio, then you will need to get proper wiring harness and a radio dashboard kit.

Good tutorial, my radio was occasionally making a loud popping sound then would shut off, I thought this time it was blown, I pushed in on the connection wiring on the back of the stereo, it worked, so I decided to remove the plugs clean them with electrical connector cleaner put them back, working great now. Thanks again .

I’m going to give this a shot. Mine was doing the same thing, I saw on another video it was the soldering, but maybe it just needs to be taking apart, cleaned, and put back together

It usually comes with the owners manual on a small card. If you don't have it you have to contact Ford dealer with vehicle serial number and radio serial number to get the code.
