Reviewing '40 Knots' from Xerjoff. www.aaronteren... Instagram - AaronTerenceHughes #AaronTerenceHughes #PerfumerReviews #Xerjoff Music: Sleepdebt - I C U
I used this fragrance while on vacation to the Caribbean last year. The way it stays on the skin after being in the ocean, mixed with the salt water is so nice. But can also be worn year round. One of my favorites.
@mma9fan 40 Knots is an essentially a sparkling amber fragrance with aquatic vibes. Perfect for Spring and for Summer evenings. Torino 21 is a summer fragrance, totally aquatic but with a sparking mint note that stays throughout the life of the fragrance. Both are magnificent, with great projection and performance. I'm 8 hours into applying Torino 21 and I'm still getting beautiful wafts, whilst sitting outside in the sun.
@@sandymcconnell1969 thnx. I have 40 knots and it’s my favorite fragrance (not necessarily the best smelling) so I was considering to order Torino 21 as well.
Thanks Aaron for this review. I've 40 knots and I enjoy wearing it, but in fact I've enjoyed a lot learning about its different facets paying attention to your great explanations. See you soon!
Glad we finally have it reviewed! Interrestingly, I have the same exact opinion, I appreciate it so much and can see the craftsmanship, skill and quality materials yet it's not my taste! Love it but can't wear it that much :)
Just got mine 2 weeks ago. Very different but full of quality..one of my favorites as well. To me it is a masterpiece… as I believe Xerjoff made it smell just the way it should.. this was not an attempt but a completion of a goal.. an achievement. Aaron, love your reviews as you are so different and are not afraid to be so.. very intelligent review and educational. Please keep them coming as you (as far as I know) are the only perfumer reviewing fragrances so we get a different view.. a more precise breakdown of what we have/want.
40 Knots is in my top 3 for my husband. Excellent quality, excellent longevity and projection. It's very gentlemanly and approachable. (Golden Retriever boy vibes.) It's youthful without being immature.
@user-wf4nl2yy8x Hacivat (Idk why, but it makes me think of Indiana Jones, and that's always a good thing,) and Pegasus Exclusif. That one wears almost like a gourmand on him, with the almond, vanilla, and sandalwood becoming prominent in the drydown, but it's sooo yummy in the best way. It would work at a fall/winter black tie event. It's creamy and posh.
I would like to hear your thoughts on Lorenzo Pazzaglia’s “Black Sea” . It’s very similar to 40 Knots with some similarities to Orto Parisi’s “Megamare” as well. Also “Sex Sea” , “Dream Sea” and “Artik Sea” from Pazzaglia are worth checking out. I’ve recently discovered that brand and they are really good and the prices are not expensive either.
40knots, alexandria 2 and naxos are my al time favourites from xerjoff. other 3 from nasomatto and more 3 from orto parisi. everytime i wear any of them i fall in love with art of perfumery more and more
Great review Aaron. My brain somehow can't accept this fragrance as a "blue" scent. Maybe because I also expect more citruses in a blue fragrance and this one just does not have it. So far I agree with every Xerjoff fragrance review you made and this one is no exception. It is Xerjoff quality and I understand some people like it, but it is totally not for me. Hopefully Ivory Route and Mefisto will get your attention soon.
Had a tester as part of a Xerjoff sample set. Got it 6 months ago or so and didn’t like 40 knots, but picked it up today and love it! Definitely ethyl linalool in there - there are some similarities to Bleu De Chanel Parfum.
Aaron doesn’t like his blue with any green in them. For me personally this is the consummate “what are you wearing?” scent. I love it and I get compliments from both genders.
Can’t decide if I like this fragrance or hate it. The performance is great, but that wax candle scent in the opening is throwing me off. Once that note dissipates it turns into a very enjoyable scent.
I really love your content and I would love to see some "Simone Andreoli" like "Malibu - Party in the Bay" or some "Matiere Premiere" with "Flacon Leather, Crystal Saffron or Radical Rose"... Cheers 🧚🏻♂️
Would be interesting to see a comparison between B#9 Chez Bond and Creed Green Irish Tweed, I always hear people say they're the same thing but aside from having the same overall DNA, they're not the same thing at all, especially as they dry down.
Same for me, it's a good fragrance but not for me. It's too sweet and smooth for a summer fragrance and too bright for a colder weather fragrance. Also it's too synthetic for me, high quality but synthetic and i like my fragrances more natural.
i'm the same. I'm terrified of the sea. When I was 12 years old I went a long way out to sea, in the Mediterranean with a friend on a padalo, & really needed to pee. So I jumped off into the sea, but in my hurry to pee I forgot to breathe in first & I just kept going down. The water was really clear back then & ,as I struggled to get back to the surface, a huge creature bumped its nose on me & then swam past me, brushing its massive body against my torso, from head to tail, in a display of dominance. when I got to the surface my friend in the padalo said it was a huge shark & he was sure I was gonna be eaten in front of him. It was definitely a shark, but I'm pretty sure it was just a gentle Basking Shark (judging from the enormous size). Whatever it was, it scared the bejesus out of me & I've not been in the sea since, I even still get anxiety attacks when I see the sea on TV.,,,,,,, Having said all that, I do really love 40 Knots. I also adore Dior's Ambre Nuit which is very similar.
Not a summer fragrance at all. 40 knots is salty, powdery, and sweet. Strong performance and really beautiful fragrance for me but not for summer here in Spain. Too dense, not uplifting nor refreshing but I really love it. Not a blind buy at all.
Hey Aaron it's imposible to find your fragrance in canada. I'm a huge fan of ur reviewing style and knowledge and wanted to try ur fragrance, Any suggestions how I could get my hands on them?
The ocean, I have no fear of, because I love to sail. 40 Knots? Now *that*, I have a fear of. It's classed as a Strong Gale which causes slight damage to sails /buildings, or shingles being blown off of roofs. We are all afraid of one thing or another.
no.its smells like the good ol Nivea hand cream..most people here dont remember Nivea, but its like Nivea on steroids..I dont rate 40 knots above my 1-2 Xerjoffs,, which is Naxos and Erba Gold..
Great review! Very informative and pleasant listening to you explain things so passionately. Please do a review on Nishane: Afrika-Olifant. It’s and oriental animalic oud. It also contains thibetone and I would like to learn more about it.
I've got 40 Knots a few weeks and have tried it a couple of times. And I really don't like it. Anyone in The Netherlands or Belgium who wants to buy a 100ml bottle (I have 2 bottles:1 is sealed, the other misses about 1ml I guess...)
Hello. We tried post Brexit to work with the EU. But customers would not pay the duties or taxes. If the company I am working with in the US opens a factory in the EU I will have a facility with in the EU. Then we can commence EU sales. Either that or if the UK and EU lower tariffs and taxes making it easier to sell to the EU then we will continue. But at present there are too many barriers and charges to make it worthwhile. I hope you understand., Thanks ATH
well then you have a fake bottle, or you tried it once somewhere in dept. store..this is fresh, salty, sea salt powdery ocean cream, almost like the Nivea lotions vibe..wood be my last note if I ever smelled it here
I hated this. Then loved it for a few months and bought a full 100ml bottle. And then hated it again. Hope to find the love again. But it’s not mass appealing and I stopped wearing perfumes that annoy others.
That’s funny, i’ve gotten great reactions from this, especially in the office. Have people not liked it on you? It seems to show very different facets of itself on different skin types.
“Do we have our bottles of dihydromyrcenol, are we engaged with our higher self? Let’s get testing.”

I was eagerly waiting for this review!
40 Knots is in my Top 10 fragrances of all time. Wearing Torino 21 today.

@mma9fan If you like mint in your aquatics, then you can't go wrong with Torino 21. It's one of those fragrances that makes you smile.
The transformation from opening to dry down of 40 Knots is insane! The magic happens in the air ✨️
40 Knots is top tier in my summer rotation. So good!
Thanks Aaron for this review. I've 40 knots and I enjoy wearing it, but in fact I've enjoyed a lot learning about its different facets paying attention to your great explanations. See you soon!
Friends of Arron must truely love when he says “not for me”. Ahh, Arron, could I borrow the 40 knots fragrance please.?
Glad we finally have it reviewed! Interrestingly, I have the same exact opinion, I appreciate it so much and can see the craftsmanship, skill and quality materials yet it's not my taste! Love it but can't wear it that much :)
Love your stuff man! Please do Narcotic Delight by Initio!
I am not the biggest fan of the opening but I love the dry down one of my favourite warm weather fragrances
One of the best Xerjoff’s on my skin! Thanks for the review Aaron! ❤
I’m a female and wear this all the time. This is my most complimented fragrance, which is quite a surprise as I have 300+ bottles
When I first tried this i was a little underwhelmed but wearing for a few days it’s a wow from me , it’s classy , a top Xerjoff must have.

I love 40 Knots. One of my favorite Xerjoffs. Excellent Spring/Fall scent. It can be a bit much on a hot summer day though.
Such a quality perfume and line but man all i pick up is baby wipes

The metallic notes of habanolide sound very similar to what I smell in Creeds Himalaya (That and it's super beautifully inky ambergris like scent)
Please review Torino21! I know it's an oldie now but I'd love love love your elaboration on it!

Hi Dear Aaron ❣️ Any Chance You Can Review Xerjoff Torino 21 Please 🙏
Gosh, he really knows the chemistry behind it. The only way is every describe a perfume is either or "smells nive or not" lol

40 knots is extremely powdery if you love powdery fragrance by all means. I do love ambre nuit it’s in the same realm
@@iFrankie. what would you pick up between the two?
i ordered a 50ml bottle 2 days ago!! can't wait to try it
How much did u pay for it?
small caveat: 40 knots's drydown smells like baby wipes/diapers in the most realistic way. Please try before buy. In fact, never blindbuy.
Great video as always. Would be curious to hear your thoughts on some stuff from the brand "Mind Games".
When I first tried it, it reminded me of olive brine. Which I oddly loved. One of my favorites

Alexandria Fragrances' Smooth Sailing is very, very close to 40K. I'm not a fan of all of their work, but that one nails it.
Really hoping you love this. One of my top 5
I adore 40 Knots. Easily my favorite fragrance that I own.
40 knots was why i got in to collecting parfume i just adore the smell :)
First like and comment. Love your content 🙂
Always been quite interested in this one.
The wife has found my 40 knotts and loves it for herself!
It’s super versatile and lovely ❤!!
Torino 21 next!
40 knots or Torino 21 or renaissance for summer?
Now I’d like to know this myself! I only have 40 Knots, out of those 3!
I favour renaissance ova torino 21.. Haven't tried 40 knots yet
Renaissance for me. It’s a masterpiece citrus. Torino 21 is also amazing but the spearmint takes the center stage.
Same for me, it's a good fragrance but not for me. It's too sweet and smooth for a summer fragrance and too bright for a colder weather fragrance. Also it's too synthetic for me, high quality but synthetic and i like my fragrances more natural.
What are examples of your favorite citruses? 7:40 Excellent review, of course!
stating that it doesnt have calone makes me want to try it ... hate the stuff. Not sure I would love it but will keep an eye out for a decant.

I second this. I really want to get my nose on some of your work🦄 Maxaroma seems to always be out of stock 😢
This is in my top 5 and will be there till i die
I don't know why, but this reminds me of powdered Tide laundry detergent.
I say this so respectfully.
My favorite Xerjoff fragrance
Musky clean and woody to my nose. it's a play on words. 40 (wood) Knots
The ocean, I have no fear of, because I love to sail. 40 Knots? Now *that*, I have a fear of. It's classed as a Strong Gale which causes slight damage to sails /buildings, or shingles being blown off of roofs. We are all afraid of one thing or another.

Can you review Polo Red Edt? I find it is really nice and quite slept on
I don't know which one to go with uden or 40 knots. 40 knots is a little feminine on the drydown
Oddly enough I was looking at this the other day and couldn't decide on it
I sampled it. It's nice, but not for me. I also sampled the re-release of Oud Minerale...that one I really like. Getting a 50ml bottle!
As long as it’s not pharmacy “classy”, it’s ok w/ me. (Good review) 👍
Waiting for the Mefisto review
