I used this fragrance while on vacation to the Caribbean last year. The way it stays on the skin after being in the ocean, mixed with the salt water is so nice. But can also be worn year round. One of my favorites.
Thanks Aaron for this review. I've 40 knots and I enjoy wearing it, but in fact I've enjoyed a lot learning about its different facets paying attention to your great explanations. See you soon!
@mma9fan 40 Knots is an essentially a sparkling amber fragrance with aquatic vibes. Perfect for Spring and for Summer evenings. Torino 21 is a summer fragrance, totally aquatic but with a sparking mint note that stays throughout the life of the fragrance. Both are magnificent, with great projection and performance. I'm 8 hours into applying Torino 21 and I'm still getting beautiful wafts, whilst sitting outside in the sun.
@@sandymcconnell1969 thnx. I have 40 knots and it’s my favorite fragrance (not necessarily the best smelling) so I was considering to order Torino 21 as well.
I just love XERJOFF a lot, they have many beautiful fragrances in their lineup! 🧿 40 Knots is a Love and Hate Fragrance for me personally… On the One hand I love this salty, breezy, honey-like feeling but in the other hand the metallic aspect can be quite overwhelming at times. It’s a brilliant fragrance, I still am just not sure wether I enjoy the scent enough to actually wear it :D
@@jaypohl9651 I get that! The thing is that it actually remind me of Dior’s Ambre Nuit in a way, which I find absolutely great, although I wasn’t too happy with its performance; but with a salty, slightly metallic twist to it. God news, there is so much more beauty out there in the perfume world 😍🧿
Glad we finally have it reviewed! Interrestingly, I have the same exact opinion, I appreciate it so much and can see the craftsmanship, skill and quality materials yet it's not my taste! Love it but can't wear it that much :)
I had a bad experience in the sea when I was a child where I thought I was going to drown, I still remember it decades later. I'm not afraid of water but then I have absolutely no fear of dying 😇
40 Knots is in my top 3 for my husband. Excellent quality, excellent longevity and projection. It's very gentlemanly and approachable. (Golden Retriever boy vibes.) It's youthful without being immature.
@user-wf4nl2yy8x Hacivat (Idk why, but it makes me think of Indiana Jones, and that's always a good thing,) and Pegasus Exclusif. That one wears almost like a gourmand on him, with the almond, vanilla, and sandalwood becoming prominent in the drydown, but it's sooo yummy in the best way. It would work at a fall/winter black tie event. It's creamy and posh.
Just got mine 2 weeks ago. Very different but full of quality..one of my favorites as well. To me it is a masterpiece… as I believe Xerjoff made it smell just the way it should.. this was not an attempt but a completion of a goal.. an achievement. Aaron, love your reviews as you are so different and are not afraid to be so.. very intelligent review and educational. Please keep them coming as you (as far as I know) are the only perfumer reviewing fragrances so we get a different view.. a more precise breakdown of what we have/want.
@teejayandrade_22 i have not smelled all of xerjoff but from what i have smelled 40 knots is 3, toni iommi money special is probably 2, and la capitale is 1. it’s changes all the time tho so that’s just as of right now.
I would like to hear your thoughts on Lorenzo Pazzaglia’s “Black Sea” . It’s very similar to 40 Knots with some similarities to Orto Parisi’s “Megamare” as well. Also “Sex Sea” , “Dream Sea” and “Artik Sea” from Pazzaglia are worth checking out. I’ve recently discovered that brand and they are really good and the prices are not expensive either.
40knots, alexandria 2 and naxos are my al time favourites from xerjoff. other 3 from nasomatto and more 3 from orto parisi. everytime i wear any of them i fall in love with art of perfumery more and more
Great review Aaron. My brain somehow can't accept this fragrance as a "blue" scent. Maybe because I also expect more citruses in a blue fragrance and this one just does not have it. So far I agree with every Xerjoff fragrance review you made and this one is no exception. It is Xerjoff quality and I understand some people like it, but it is totally not for me. Hopefully Ivory Route and Mefisto will get your attention soon.
Aaron doesn’t like his blue with any green in them. For me personally this is the consummate “what are you wearing?” scent. I love it and I get compliments from both genders.
Would be interesting to see a comparison between B#9 Chez Bond and Creed Green Irish Tweed, I always hear people say they're the same thing but aside from having the same overall DNA, they're not the same thing at all, especially as they dry down.
I really love your content and I would love to see some "Simone Andreoli" like "Malibu - Party in the Bay" or some "Matiere Premiere" with "Flacon Leather, Crystal Saffron or Radical Rose"... Cheers 🧚🏻♂️
Hey Aaron it's imposible to find your fragrance in canada. I'm a huge fan of ur reviewing style and knowledge and wanted to try ur fragrance, Any suggestions how I could get my hands on them?
If you ever visit one of the Xerjoff boutiques in Italy (or Monaco), try their exclusive one called 40 Noeuds - it's a beautiful take on 40 Knots with an added rose! Amazing evening fragrance.
Had a tester as part of a Xerjoff sample set. Got it 6 months ago or so and didn’t like 40 knots, but picked it up today and love it! Definitely ethyl linalool in there - there are some similarities to Bleu De Chanel Parfum.
I just got back from 2 week vacation in the Caribbean, and all i brought was Xerjoff. Torino 21, 40 Knots and Mefisto. I was covered. *Edit I brought a 5ml of Beach Hut Man. I was in the rainforest and got a compliment from a local. It was the only compliment I got, besides from people I knew. Almost forgot. Fun times. Back to work tomorrow unfortunately😢
All the Join The Club line by Xerjoff have no official notes. It's more of a "do you like it? No? Then don't buy it" type of deal with them. I've tried 3 so far and love all of them. DON should be one you review Arron, I think you'd like it
Can’t decide if I like this fragrance or hate it. The performance is great, but that wax candle scent in the opening is throwing me off. Once that note dissipates it turns into a very enjoyable scent.
I have to give it another shot see how i feel about it now. I've had it for about 6 or 7 months and haven't worn it because i thought the metallic smell was overbearing and unpleasant, smelled like pen ink.
no.its smells like the good ol Nivea hand cream..most people here dont remember Nivea, but its like Nivea on steroids..I dont rate 40 knots above my 1-2 Xerjoffs,, which is Naxos and Erba Gold..
One of my problems is I'm allergic to cedar. So when I bought this it was a no-go for me. There's a very deep rich Coca-Cola note here with the woods that reminds me of my grandfather's wood shop which is a really nice thing. The problem everyone should know and I heard this from someone else and once I heard it it made so much sense. After the first hour to 2 hour wearing this you will wish you didn't smell like it anymore. This fragrance is straight up exhausting and the fact that it lasts as long as it does into the next day is even more annoying it's great for the first hour or two then you're just like okay I don't want to smell like this anymore. That's 40 knots. But do not blind by this, because when you think clean fresh you almost think something maybe more sporty but this it does remind me of the docs or a wood shop but it's very overpowering and it's borderline offensive. This will not be mass appealing and you have to really like this to buy a bottle. Trust me when I say get a sample
I love 40 knots, that being said this is not a hot humid summer day to me. A cool summer night, or any other time of year. In high heat its cloying and headache inducing for me. Give my Y, BDC, Elysium, Torino21, etc etc etc. Not 40 Knots.
Same for me, it's a good fragrance but not for me. It's too sweet and smooth for a summer fragrance and too bright for a colder weather fragrance. Also it's too synthetic for me, high quality but synthetic and i like my fragrances more natural.
i'm the same. I'm terrified of the sea. When I was 12 years old I went a long way out to sea, in the Mediterranean with a friend on a padalo, & really needed to pee. So I jumped off into the sea, but in my hurry to pee I forgot to breathe in first & I just kept going down. The water was really clear back then & ,as I struggled to get back to the surface, a huge creature bumped its nose on me & then swam past me, brushing its massive body against my torso, from head to tail, in a display of dominance. when I got to the surface my friend in the padalo said it was a huge shark & he was sure I was gonna be eaten in front of him. It was definitely a shark, but I'm pretty sure it was just a gentle Basking Shark (judging from the enormous size). Whatever it was, it scared the bejesus out of me & I've not been in the sea since, I even still get anxiety attacks when I see the sea on TV.,,,,,,, Having said all that, I do really love 40 Knots. I also adore Dior's Ambre Nuit which is very similar.
Not a summer fragrance at all. 40 knots is salty, powdery, and sweet. Strong performance and really beautiful fragrance for me but not for summer here in Spain. Too dense, not uplifting nor refreshing but I really love it. Not a blind buy at all.
The ocean, I have no fear of, because I love to sail. 40 Knots? Now *that*, I have a fear of. It's classed as a Strong Gale which causes slight damage to sails /buildings, or shingles being blown off of roofs. We are all afraid of one thing or another.
We need more Xerjoff reviews!!
The transformation from opening to dry down of 40 Knots is insane! The magic happens in the air ✨️
