The biggest mistake that I have made as a new collector is that I purchased way too many at first, and way too many cheapies. As your nose develops, and budget allows, you’ll end up acquiring better quality and being more discerning.

@@RickMGPinto but I think that’s because it is constantly encouraged by influencers that we hold in pretty high regard. They’re making money, while people are stuffing their shelves with stuff they’ll never wear if they mature in this hobby.
Same here. A lot of the ones I bought in the first year or two, I wouldn't replace if they ran out. I dont buy the outrageously priced cologne's, but I am now looking much more for quality over quantity.

It is so funny to watch Aarons face and reactions while smelling the cheapies 😂 he clearly hates each one of them but is still being polite and keeping it unoffensive. It's clear that he is very experienced when it comes to fragrances and has a very well-trained nose. The way he picks up on all the ingredients on a blind-smell in your other videos is just mind blowing, well done!

Totally agree with Aaron on dupes taking a cut on designers income. But at the same time you can argue that for those who have got lazy with quality and performance, dupes can give them a reason to get themselves sorted out and hopefully start producing more quality fragrances again instead of ripping people off for bad experiences.
The dupes or clones have only become popular because of the outrageous prices some of the designer fragrances cost. Thank heaven for discount fragrance sites.
Agree. Especially Tom Ford fragrances, where the prices have gone up but the quality and longevity isn't as good as they used to be.

Because he puts together QUALITY and doesn’t charge our eyeballs out. If the big boys with the deep pockets and wholesale prices weren’t trying to squeeze a dime out of a nickel (or 110 pence out of a quid) and gave us more for our money. clones couldn’t take from them as much.
"Dupes" replicate the originals. Many "dupe" companies do a very good job of mimicking the legit product these days. For many of us who like a certain "dupe" we'll actually go out and buy the original. So it works both ways. Most people don't have a few hundred bucks to buy 1 designer or niche fragrance, but imagine spending that kind of money on a blind buy of the original and not liking it?
Props to Aaron's take on dupes @37:10 . That's such a refreshing viewpoint to hear from a perfumer!

Because some of us out here are not so wealthy and that's why we can't afford a $200-$400 bottle of fragrance and have to go to clones. And some of the clones out there can give a lot of designers fragrances a run for their money. Anyway thank you for making the video and can't wait to see more. Be well my friend.
ATH is a perfume chemist so he can instantly recognise the compounds and chemicals. So he can kinda predict accurately if those chemicals will last or not. The clone issue is that they never last. Its actually kinda amazing that they can really pull off the scent, problem is it lasts 15min.
Most reviewers/fragrance experts actually dont hate on clones, but there are only a few clone houses that can make the scent AND make it last
@@dizzy4303 My friend I have several clones that last 8+hours some even longer than that. It's INSANE to ask $300 to $400 for a fragrance when the majority of hard working people can not afford such luxuries. Real people have children,bills and food to pay for. Not everyone is money wealthy. I will stick to my clones rather than making some hody tody perfumer more wealthy. Be well and have a beautiful day.

I remember when I worked as a waiter when I was a student and I forgot my aftershave (always have to have something on) and went in to the Poundland next door and bought the ‘King in million’ and thought for a quid I might as well give it a go. I got a ton of compliments wearing it from co-workers and customers. Yeah it smells very “chemically”, a bit like the shampoo potions I made when I was a child. However from afar it actually smelled quite nice

@HoseTheBeast Minimum wage in Brazil is less than 250 euros, for example. A majority of the population here doesn't make much more than that, some even less. Buying pretty much any fragrance, even so-called cheapies, is a luxury and a privilege in this context.

I agree with Aaron on dupes I only get the out of reach ones .. I think Diaghilev by Roja Dove is AMAZING but I cannot spend $1,000 on a fragrances, but Alexandria makes a version that is spot on at 97%, bought a $10.00 sample of the real deal and compared the 2 and longevity was the only issue but at $69.00 a bottle I can reapply multiple times a day. I am trying Great Britain next. Thanks for an interesting but way to long video ..LOL. Cheers Mate 😎
I am so surprised more people don’t think EXACTLY like this. I have a per bottle limit I’m just not willing to exceed . I remember my first clone purchase.. The 2mL original cost more than the 100mL clone. For my BEGINNER nose they were identical. Now. (2yrs later) I absolutely detect many differences other than the obvious (projection & longevity) and still the clone is a great stand alone fragrance, but the original offers so much more.
@@persephonesdad5792 I agree 100%, I can afford the mid to high fragrances but not at the rate I liken to purchase fragrances . Like Black tier from Roja would be almost 1- 2 months of multiple purchases of quality niche or designer but mainly niche. I have a clone of black tier God only knows how the original smells, I would be in heaven.. LOL. Cheers 😎

Great video as always, thank you for your content! It's also always great to see Aaron on your channel as well! I don't know if you have anything like a TJ Maxx out where you are (I'm betting you do), but here in the U.S., but TJ Maxx is a "rack store" that has a lot of fragrances marked down in price, plus they also carry a lot of clone brands (like Camara and Milestone) that I have found to be of surprisingly good quality. I would be very curious to see what Aaron thinks of these niche clones that have been increasing in the rack stores over here. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to more content!

I own a vintage bottle of TF BLACK ORCHID and I own the clone shown in the video for over 3 years now. I prefer the clone over the OG! It lasts over 12 hours on me and smell so very similar, in fact most people pick the clone over TF!!! Go figure. These are fun and love TAH reviews, his nose is legendary ❤

11:05 The answer to this is that in some countries, the daily income is literally $10 USD. You're asking a fragrance fan on that income to spend a week's worth of income on a scent. That's why these super cheap clones exist. They're not actually for the wealthier Western market.
Iv been watching a lot of theese videos over the Christmas holidays as I got a couple of pretty expensive colognes, I work in construction so I'm not putting on expensive fragrances going to work but I would like to know what deodorants a guy should be going for

I've always loved cologne since I was a little kid. As I got older and can purchase the more expensive colognes Maison Frances is one of my favorites. When I smell the cheaper fragrances, I can easily smell the differences.

On the dupes, it's not taking money away. If someone can recreate 80-90% of what you do for 10 times less, then where really is the magic and how much are really the profit margins? Don't want to get duped - charge less or be harder to dupe. There are countless counterfits of Nikes and others out there, they aren't taking money away from those who can't afford them. Most people buying dupes would have never bought the original in the first place. Especially with most being reformulated and watered down over the years.

38:14 nice opinion here. There's a fine line between inspirations and taking money away from the original author. That's why I'm against counterfeit fragrances, which exists because many people want to have even the same bottle and pay less. I just buy inspirations with generic bottles, but never thinking they are equal to the original, they are just a cheaper approach. Inspirations almost always are simpler, narrower, like listening a mono record.

Oud 24 hours is a dead ringer for Black Orchid, i'm convinced Terrace has never even smelt Black Orchid!! He didn't even know it sellers for well over £100 for 100ml!? Oud 24 Hours is about £12 - 15ml for 100ml, it's such a no-brainer 😂
CK Shock isn't bad (although nothing amazing), actually lasts well for me too. I agree about Rochas Man though, really didn't like that one.

I don’t like clones and dupes. However I don’t think they are taking money away from the original brands as the people who buy dupes cannot buy the top tier originals anyways. Coming from someone who can’t afford a roja, PDM etc.

Hey man, can you give me more info about DUA? I read they take these pre blended oils from india, mix it with alcohol and sell it at a high mark up. Of course i dont know if thats true, your statement about the chromatography machine made me curious. Do they actually have an in house perfumer? To where they mix their own chemicals? And ive also read some people say they get a weird synthetic smell from dua products

ATH is correct about dupes but it’s like watches . Not everyone can afford a Rolex , so they go for Tudor . The ones that can’t afford a Tudor get a turkey 🇹🇷 watch ⌚️. Niche fragrances with niche prices can only be bought by Niche customers.
If I ate a steady diet of foods like filet mignon, beluga caviar, and bice tagliolini pasta with lobster & truffles, I might think less of a cheeseburger and fries, too. Lucky for me, I'm just a regular person - not a perfume snob. To which I'll add this: I have little regard for the opinion of a perfumer who thinks that Tuscan Leather is "boring." 😏🤷
