I normally run it horizontal but it depends on the top if it is directional or not. That particular quilt had a directional panel top so I ran that center seam vertically. It was a child's quilt so it didn't make up a lot of bulk on the take up rail.
I seen you was using the brother PQ1500SL my thread cutter isn’t working, do you know if that’s common issue or should I send it off? It’s never worked it’s always cut the thread to short it’s the only thing I don’t like about my machine. I purchased it last year when I started quilting.
I had the same problem until I switched to a stronger thread. I only use Essential Pro from Connecting Threads now. The thread cutter works perfect.www.connectingthreads.com/search?q=Thread&filter___category%5B0%5D=Thread&filter___subcategory%5B0%5D=Essential%E2%84%A2%20Polyester%20Cones
@@PowerToolsWithThread thank you so much! I ordered some of that thread!!! I sure hope that fixes my problem too! I love everything else about the brother.
Great tutorial on backing! Keeping it simple. I love your sewing space setup too. Oh and love your doggies! I have a Queensland Blue Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog like your Blue). A wonderful breed. Looking forward to more of your videos.
They are the BEST breed of dogs IMO, but I've read they are some of the worst as well and she certainly has her moments when she nips everyone's ankles when they come in her house! lol I've told hubs we will get another when she passes which hopefully is years from now since she's only 9. We have cows and she loves to do her job without any training either. It's amazing how her breed knows what to do.
Thank you!! Thank you!! You explained it so well, like "piecing the backing of a quilt for dummies". It was just not sinking in with the other videos I watched.
Lol. Blues cute, I had a dog Blue he went off I think and died, just because of how he was acting, we searched everywhere. He was 13year old Australian Shepherd, Blue merle, he was Beautiful, we also have a female Sadie, she was so sad so we went and got a new Australian Shepherd pup 5 weeks, the mom had 9 and didn't make enough milk. We have a female now letty. Blue eyes Sadie has 1 Blue and 1 brown. Shes not sure about the pup.
I absolutely love my Australian Cattle Dog. She is the BEST dog I've ever had and when they are in their sunset years we will get another one. We were lucky to get her when she was 3. She's about 9 now and I'm grateful that they live to be about 15. Yes, they go away to pass on and it is so sad. It's funny that you and I both love this breed and sewing. :)
Hi Donna. I'm describing how I figure out how much fabric to buy for my backing and then how easy it is to leave it folded in half as you bought it off the bolt, make one cut, and then sew the two middle layers together. Then there's not a lot of laying things out and crawling around on the floor. Thanks for watching!
I have had Rowentas in the past and they are great irons but they don't work well for me when I'm in the sewing room all day. I hate the auto-off (safety nannies at work! Grrr!) and having steam when I need it, whenever I need it, is awesome. This iron is about the same price as a high-end Rowenta too.
Absolutely. Just don't press the button. I always use Distilled Water in mine and have never bothered with the mineral packs they sell for it. I've never had a single problem in 4 years. Thanks for watching!
do you have that folded length or width? I love dogs I rescued mine she is 14.. Im so afraid I will cut the wrong place cause I have 31/4 yards....
Healer
Becky, I have a dilemma and if you could give me your email I'd like to send you my quilt backing to see if you would be able to quilt my baby quilt.
Love this backing tutorial! Simple and to the point 😊
so is the quilt back seam running horizontal or vertical? It appears vertical
I normally run it horizontal but it depends on the top if it is directional or not. That particular quilt had a directional panel top so I ran that center seam vertically. It was a child's quilt so it didn't make up a lot of bulk on the take up rail.
Blue is cute. The pets always want to be near their loved people. Harley looks like a shepherd

Interesting iron and set up. I just have a Rowenta and have to keep refilling the reservoir on it when I’m using my iron a lot.

Power Tools with Thread Good to know. May have to check into that iron. I hate the auto off thing too. Really irritating! Thanks for the tip.
I just read about that Iron. Can you use it without
Sorry, without using the steam?

Ohh! I need a nice big table for cutting like that! Did you buy it or make it? (New subscriber here)
Hi Diane! That is a cutting table from the old Hancock's but I'm sure they are still out there. I got the mat at the Houston Quilt Show in Nov 18.
