    St. Vitus Cathedral was built when Czech king was Charles IV, who grew up in France. So maybe it could be another reason why this cathedral is French wonder.

      Also the first architect of St. Vitus cathedral was Matthias of Arras (French architect) who was invited by Charles IV to Bohemia. However he and his company managed to build only the east part of the cathedral.

    People always confuse the Britons with the British in the game: there is no such civilization as the British in the game. Historically the Britons were of a Celtic origin and inhabited the western parts of the island of Great Britain, whereas the actual, present-day British are mix of Celtic, Anglo-Saxon, Roman, etc. origin.
    ...yes, I'm fun at parties.

    • @ZeroEmpires

      11 don't worry we're all fun at parties in our own way! Thanks for the info - though I am sure people understand what I am trying to say

    • @sethheristal9561
      @sethheristal9561 6 років тому

      Right! But in the game then the historical britons are the Celts, who infact represent Galles, Scotland, and Cornwall. While the Britons in game are Anglo-Saxons + Normans (England).

    • @METALFREAK03
      @METALFREAK03 6 років тому

      Your about 600 years before the game.
      Britons are England and Wales (with a little bit of modern day france) as the campaign (well a battle) which features in the game is Henry V (whom tookover Normandy).
      Celts, are all the gaelic tribes that still would've existed back then, in scotland and ireland. They were taken over in 1745? (meh years) when the "British" (thats just a common tongue word for people of England (Unified by Alfred The Great) and Wales (Wales taken over by Edward III)) won in the Battle of Culloden. Pity we didn't go as far as the Guard of Fort Birdowald wanted - as that would have made GB truly a united Kingdom. Now we are just a bunch of former kingdoms lumped together with a few heritage larks claiming independence again. Oh well Civil War round 2, we will win again! Bastards.
      Reminds me of what the British Empire did all over the place. (British India (Bangladesh, India and Pakistan), British Palestine (Lebanon, Israel, "Palestine" and a bit of Egypt I think), Yugoslavia (six countries incl Serbia and Croatia) etc)
      We just wacked together nations and peoples together. See we were a good influence, we were trying to get mutliculturalism going even before it started to become a leftist mantle-piece and political football to be thrown around the commons.

      @@sethheristal9561 The Briton civilsation in this are the Brythonic insular celts such as the Welsh, Cornish and Bretons mixed with Norman rule England. The Celt civilization in this game represent the Gaelic insular celts such as the Irish, Manx and Scottish

    Hi! A Czech from Prague here! By the time the Sv.Vitus cathedral construction was started by Jan Lucemburský. That was ruler of Luxemburg and had close relations with France. Later on, his son Karel IV. even recieved several thorns from French king, which are believed to be thorns from the crown of Christ. So... At that time, our kingdom was very close with France! Actually Jan Lucemburský died in the battle of Crécy and his son Karel was wounded there.

    You made a common but crucial mistake at 4:15.
    Even though it is called "Gothic architecture", this style has nothing to do with the Goths.
    According to wikipedia :
    "Originating in 12th century France and lasting into the 16th century, Gothic architecture was known during the period as Opus Francigenum ("French work") with the term Gothic first appearing during the later part of the Renaissance."

    • @ZeroEmpires
      @ZeroEmpires  6 років тому +3

      @Hightscribe 6 років тому

      Yeah totally.

    • @Volcano4981

      The 'Gothic' architecture, according to that same page, was a 'pejorative' term, meaning that it had first been utilised in a bit of an informal, sometimes derogatory, manner, before becoming a formal means of describing the style of architecture.
      Reason for using 'Gothic'? Well, (as far as I have gathered, at least) the person who coined the term, allegedly, compared the style to other prevailing styles a in a similar light to how Romans saw Goths - crude, surrounded by a dark aura, and scary. That same reason is also where the goth scene gets its name - and for long, I had been wondering what the goth scene had to do with the actual Goths to get that name. :p
      Don't quote me on the latter, but I've come to believe in that as of recent. Point out anything that I've got wrong, or missed haha

    Great little investigation. I think your theory holds water. It sucks to cut good assets that work has been put into, especially since their pipeline had them modeling and rendering all this stuff offline in order to make the image. Offline rendering in Max was awful back then. Between the time to concept, get reference(which was much harder then), model, render, and implement.... I'd guess the cost for one of those wonders was around $4,000-5,000. So cutting one to make a new one would have cost double that, at least. Possibly more if you account for the man hours to meet and debate what to do with it.

    If anyone actually had the skills, I would say a mod restoring Aachen to the French and giving the Britons a proper cathedral - Canterbury, Old St. Paul's, Westminster Abbey, even St. Patrick's in Dublin - would be awesome!

    • @TheHaighus

      Holy Khan Canterbury, Westminster or Yorkminster would be my options. Or maybe Ely for a more typical stocky cathedral if the name recognition is less important.

    • @TheHaighus

      David None The Franks created the Kingdom of Francia though (of which Charlemagne was the King) which is a direct political ancestor to the Kingdom of France. The Holy Roman Empire was the other main successor, but that was basically the german-speaking bits.
      So in game, we get the Franks represent the ones who stayed around Gaul (modern day France), and the Teutons representing the german speaking areas outside of Gaul.
      The Franks pioneered the concept of European heavy cavalry during the early Holy Roman Empire, and passed this on to their successors when they became known as France, so the French heavy cavalry is directly descended from Frankish innovations. It does make sense, although they threw insome of the early Frankish infantry tactics with throwing axemen.

    The Goth should have been the Slavs and it would made all sense, in the Genghis Khan and Barbarossa campaigns the Goth fraction is used to present Russia and Poland, them having the Prague wonder would have made total sense if the Goths were Slavs instead. The Goths dont make sense at all in the vanilla version until the Attila campaign came with the expansion. Maybe they wanted the Goths originally to be Slavs but scrapped it for unknown reason, or they still wanted the Goths to represent Slavs even in the World Wonder by simple giving the excuse that the Architecture indeed looks Gothic

    I thought Archan and many other gothic cathedrals were created by the same architect? (and I think he was British) Or Am I getting the wrong era all together? His name is Wren or ren or something like that, he built/designed places like Hampton Court, St Pauls and influenced loads of european archtects in chruches/buildings. Basically, thats why Britain has so much influence as they basically built modern europe.
