This movie feels strangely refreshing compared to the movie market the past few years, it's a feel good comedy that doesn't feel like it's trying too hard. Feels like the early 2000s again
There has been tons of movies like this in the past years lol. The only reason you think that is cuz it’s based in the 90’s, ppl says the same thing abt stranger things. Also this looks like a basic boy falls in love with girl story lol
The movie looks painfully average yet like u say somehow quaint.could be a fun movie for a younger audience and doesn't give the impression there will be dick jokes every 2 seconds.
@@zzirfamo24 throwback movie being based on the director's upbringing and hometown, there are plenty of movies in this style, but its a nice change of scene in recent years amongst the deluge of superhero slop around.
The movie almost reminds me of the Superbad movie that came out in 2007 😎👌🏻
so a decade off of what it was supposed to be
My friend is in this movie as an extra and she didn’t think she’d show up in the trailer, she indeed did show up in the trailer!🤠
I’m proud of her.
Do you know where it was filmed?
@@youfoundtreasure6409 nebraska i think
@@youfoundtreasure6409Mostly in Nebraska City
Give timestamp please.
Love that for her!
Loved this movie! Felt like the good ol days, a carefree summer and coming of age story with laughs and fun. Would love a Snack Shack 2 with AJ and Moose!
You forgot death.
So cool! The director based this about him and his high school best friend in our little hometown in Nebraska. Fun story!!!
Wow thanks for the info.
So it's based on a true story then.
Love movies like this. 👍
Can't wait!! 🎉😊
Sure
I really want to visit NE and the Dakotas because I've never been but there really are so few people in those Great Plains states.
“so yeah we were awesome, looked cool, made lots of money while being bad boys and got the girl, basically”
@@mik3lang3loits in the wiki lol
This was actually one of the best movies I've seen in the past 20 years. It feels natural and not overly dramatized with an amazing story and cast.
I'm 45 years old, I'm from Portugal. I love these "period" films that portray good old times, in 1991 I was 12 years old. This film has a beautiful story about friendship and teenage love, something we've all been through. It has moments of humor, but it has a beautiful story. Also some drama at the end (I won't spoil it). It's worth watching!
yeah it's nice to reminisce...I'm from Portugal too and was only 3 years old in 1991 but was wondering whether it is a realistic portrayal of that time?
im from portugal too, 41 years old. Love this kind of movies, old vibes.
Looks like a cool movie. I grew up in this time. Kids used to be able to f-around, mess up, have fun and everything wasn’t so damn serious all the time. Like to see fun movies like this again.
If this movie is supposed to be 1991...WHY do they have hairstyles from 2010 + ?
well that "srs all the time" point was just shown
@@Thickcurves You are right. Just watched the movie. Nothing about it says 90s. Dude looks like Bieber.
It’s a great movie. Brings back the fun of high school times, while maintaining some serious/complicated moments. Best movie of 2024… so far.
No girl ever acted that way back in 91. Young boys and girls always being programmed by Hollywood.
Oh god, the last time I wanna revisit is summer of 90 or 91, lol. I can smell the chlorine and Crystal Pepsi from here.
Eh.
Nostalgia is always cyclical. The kids who grew up during a period of time become movie/TV directors/comic book writers/editors and they decide to recapture their youth by producing movies based on that time period. The 80s got a jump start in the mid-late 2000s but the 90s were always going to have their time. That's why we're getting things like this and that godawful Crow reboot as well as many other media that pulls the "Remember the 90s?" card.
Plus, with the superhero genre dying off and movie studios* waiting to see what the next big thing will be, nostalgia is always a reliable thing to bank on until the next big thing comes along.
*Now that I think about it, gaming is doing the same thing.
Hi! This movie was actually made in a small town in Nebraska, and the building they used for the snack shack is now an actual concession stand at the baseball field

Finally...a comedy.
It feels like forever.
That's exactly what I was thinking. As far as I can tell there's no blatant feminist agenda. It'll make a billion dollars
wait, this is a comedy? I guess they went with the not putting any funny part of the movie in the trailer route.

It's Dazed and Confused but takes place in the 90s.
@@lobster272Except Dazed & Confused was GOOD.
Add in a sprinkle of The Way Way Back. :)
The Beach Bum
Human Traffic
Mid90s

Its more the to do list but this definitely gives off Richard linklater vibes too
GILLIAN VIGMAN! THE ABSOLUTE LEGEND!

…there’s been a bunch of movies exactly like this over the last 5-10 years lolll
@@Free420Lovereally? Can you list a few. I want to watch them lol
@@gbk2006 lol I see you caught my recommendations on my other comment.😉 Mid90s has a great soundtrack too, huh?☺️
Adventureland is classic Kristen Stewart too.
Also, not necessarily set in the 80s/90s, more like early-mid 2000s for the most part, but they’re still great coming-of-age films, poignant, funny, and have great soundtracks as well:
Ladybird (circa: 2003), Greta killed it with the soundtrack & casting
The Way Way Back (didn’t come out until 2013, but was written in/about early 2000’s)
The Edge of Seventeen and Booksmart are both perfectly cast, as well as Eighth Grade (Bo Burnham wrote and directed it, which I still think is adorable AF, about the struggles & eventual empowerment of a shy 8th grade girl, and he was absolutely spot on😭😭)
Waves is a solid indie film (literally any & everything with Lucas Hedges🥰, kid is super talented (was the brother in mid90s).
The Virgin Suicides is obviously darker heh, but a classic.
Oh, and if you haven’t seen the Florida Project, that’s a wild card in the group, but it’s an incredible film, and little Brooklyn Prince and all of the untrained kids acting in it are crazy good, as well as the always-outstanding Willem Defoe - about the people living in the rundown hotels outside of Walt Disney World, who are struggling to survive, it’s a crazy juxtaposition, and it’s at once a sad but really beautiful film. The kids are seriously incredible.
Paid comment.
This movie is just fresh out of the box. The 90's vibes is just immaculate. Got waves of emotions by watching this. Surely it's gonna be one of the cult classics. Must watch guys. 10/10 ❤🔥💯
Except no girl ever acted like that back then. Literally none.
nope. I grew up in the 90's.
I’m so ready for this one!!! Countdown to march 15
I’m so excited for this film! I think I’m an extra in it because I was able to get in some shots!
Yeah... Im ready for it. Absolutelly.
“This is fucking epic!” Yea that doesn’t sound like something a teen from 1991 would say and these kids don’t look like they have 90s cuts either
Fuck all 90s about this movie, honestly. Could be set any time from 2000 to 2015 aside from the no one having mobiles.
@@Bleech606 if this movie doesn’t bring back high school memories and you’re more worried about haircuts, then your teenage years sucked balls!
guy theyre using 2024 dialogue in 1991 on purpose. That much is obvious. Lol
Yeah, there’s a few anachronisms, especially in a scene at the grocery store, but it’s a solid movie nonetheless.
@@curto201 Yea exactly. This movie is awesome.
But it's also horrible programming for white dudes and girls in general. The romance relationship is so fucked up it's crazy and apparently nobody notices. That's how programmed everyone is. So, Hollywood is still at their psyche games in 2024.
How refreshing. A positive spin on starting and running a business.
Saw It Yesterday
Freaking Loved It ❤
The Cinematography,The Chemistry Between The Actors Was Really Nice To Watch.
Even though i knew exactly where all roads led for everyone , this film was so good and made me think of my younger years . Everyone in this film are gonna do big things in whatever roles they land .
The parents were my FAV and all their interactions and scenes .
Its been a long time since I laughed , been angry at the director and writer for doing a great job , and even almost cried when the eventual happened.
Everyone that had something to do w/ this film did such a good job making this film .
Hopefully Cuckoo is a good film . Thats a movie I have been waiting to see soon after this 1 .
I was invited to see an early version of the film, it’s a lot of fun. Production is fantastic, the director’s style is really unique and carries over well from his last film (Dinner in America). I’m looking forward to seeing the release version in theaters!
Right on man. Loved mixing Dinner in America & this one… true highlights of my career. Adam is a master craftsman and brings out the very best in the cast and crew.
Dinner in America shits on this movie.
@@Bleech606 oof harsh! personally, I do agree Dinner in America is a better film. there are a few things about Snack Shack that I don't love, but I understand the intent behind all the artistic choices. that being said, I still found this film to be super refreshing, especially in a saturated genre, and an overall memorable piece amidst a sea of forgettable cinema.
wow it's been a long time since I heard the song Unbelievable by EMF, bit o' 90s nostalgia here, I think of The Sandlot and Blank Check hah, each time I try to verbally ask people if they remember the song they don't know what I'm talking about hah it's become so obscure these days
Unbelievable is in The Sandlot?
@@gretaweiss6802 Just saying I'm reminded of those films upon seeing this trailer 'cause the pool setting. While we're at it, I'll also toss in the live-action Richie Rich movie, another fun one of the era.
@@rothsothy
Oh gotcha.
Before Nirvana blew up, EMF and Jesus Jones was believed to be the defining sound of the 90's.
@@a.champagne6238 I tell people this and get blank stares. Everyone thought the Madchester music scene (Stone Roses, Soup Dragons, Happy Mondays) would take over the world, and except for one's offs like "IUnbeleiveable" it didn't make a dent in the US (although it did spawn what is now the rave scene)
One of the best movies iv seen since covid
Damn maaan 10/10
These are the movies we need
I thought this would be junk. But I watched this last night and it's one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Funny, cute, sad nostalgic and well acted. Go watch it!!!!
You sure this wasn't just sitting on a shelf for 30 years? It looks like it is a 90s movie.
Did you suffer brain damage in an accident?
This story felt so real! Beyond nostalgia almost like Déjà vu… superb movie
The dad is Gale from "Breaking Bad"
Director said the whole premise of he film was based on the life Gale would have led if he never met Gustavo Fring.
Oh hell yes
Two kids taking the initiative and starting a business, how can their parents dislike that?!
I think those clips are before the kids decided to engage in that business.
We know how trailers are they are often misleading.
Just watched it! Brought me back to my childhood! Epic film!
Was your childhood in the 2000s?
I’m in! Nostalgic!!! Love the music!!!!
Looks like a good movie! I was brought home from Saint Mary's to an apartment nearly under that water tower. Six months later we moved to Lincoln. Went back many many times to see relatives. My Dad chipped a tooth in the Neb City pool and got a gold filling. Grandparents lived across the street from Arbor Lanes and are buried across the other street in Wyuka.
Such a good movie!! Well made and full of nostalgia!i t'll make you laugh, and maybe cry. Haven't seen a movie like this in a while👏👏👏
Finally an actual movie that feel original and not a cookie cutter copy! This is fantastic!
This looks terrible. Absolutely terrible.
This is literally every other feel good true story, how much did they pay you?😂

Read the comments before watching the movie , debated if I’ll watch it or not .. I did watch it and I must say it’s actually one of my favorite movies I’ve seen in a long time .. insane ending too but I wish the movie never had to end it was so good . I would say I wish they made a sequel to this but they most likely won’t. I’d pay money to watch it though if they did !
feels somewhat like the 80s and the 90s movie.
Man, I miss them stuff.
Are you sitting in an office of other paid commenters writing positive comments about movies you haven't seen? Doesn't feel anything like a 90s or 80s movie. They missed the mark by a country mile in that regard.
@@Bleech606 feels more like high school in early 2000s, but that aside it friggin hits home unless your high school years sucked.
Anyone who went to high school, regardless of era should be able to relate to this movie.
@@Bleech606 lol, nah mate. I'm an 80s kid. I saw there's some of the 80s and 90s formula in there with a current day settings. It felt somewhat nostalgic and made me qite happy seeing something like this again.

Definitely has potential, but it drives me nuts when movies set 35 years ago use modern vernacular
Just watched this last night with my mom so many emotions that u actually feel them. I can’t explain it but def has those 90s feels. SUPER GOOD movie overall. Good story and funny good vibes .
This movie was dope that ending was unexpected as fuck but man this was worth every single second of my time

Just finished it. Fuckin fantastic film! 100% worth the time.
Unreal movie been along time since I have watched a movie this good
I skip comedies, but I'll watch this.
Where's the funny parts?
It was good
So maybe this movie is in for me, but who is the set designer on this thing? You've got a mix of 70s and 80s style on here, the only thing from the 90s are the cars in the background. We didn't wear calf high white socks and shoes in the 90s, or wear our hair like that.
Good movie ....Should be a sequel.
Actually looks like a legit 90s movie and not scared to be funny. I’ll be there

STOKED to see this
Def one say it’s one of my fav movies I’ve watched so far in 2024
movie was awesome. I loved it. It had it all.
This movie had far more heart than the trailer gives. Was pleasantly surprised, and I'm fairly picky.
Nice a movie that did things right for once. Sometimes the stars just align. I hope the movie is as good as the trailer, if so we're all in for a real treat!
Already an eight out of ten for not relying on CG dragons, superheros or fighting robots
Put this on for the homie thinking it would be a funny watch but had us on a emotional rollercoater for 110 minutes. 8/10
Hermosa peli ♥️
Besides a few songs, it got the early 90s vibe totally wrong, especially 91. Hair, clothes, slang, all of it. Getting 25 year old actors to play young teens was a very 90210ish thing to do, though. Also, impossible a local pool snack shop could rake in $1500 in one afternoon. Beyond absurd. Also, $1k needed for a camping trip in Alaska? Nope. Two friends & I drove from NYC to LA & back in 92, spending 3 weeks on the road. We each brought like $250 bucks. That included gas, tolls, motels, a little gambling in Vegas, getting shocks fixed outside of Chicago, & lots of diners. Marlboros were around $1.50 & 16oz drafts were 75cents. So were candy bars. Hot dogs were 2 for $1 at gas stations & a 2 cheeseburger meal with fries & drink at McDonald's was $2.99.
Offering that guy $50 for a ride across the bridge ?? You know how much 50 bucks was in 91 ! Also saying things like " bangin " didn't exist
A lot of things like that here but good movie either way . I know I'm just old and grumpy and it's time for my nap .
Just watched this such a dope movie im even commenting on it I don’t do that

Muito bom , arrasando sempre nas produções
after a decade, a movie i like, kids driven by getting to a bag no matter what, their drive is so similar to mine, their eyes only on money.. the come up, no distractions until the biscuit comes. very relatable and i hope a part 2 happens. hella kids have a similar drive to the two kids acting, in fact the director based this on a true story with him and his best friend in high school. 9/10, very refreshing to watch especially in 2024
Worth the watch!
Niiice~. The actor from Kings of Summer is in this too, which is another good summer movie. It’s like he’s saying “it’s your turn now boys.”
I graduated in 1990 in Nebraska City I even saw Hammands house I remember my truck having a bullet hole in it when I trespassed on there farm land
Snack Shack Is a good movie comedy
