This went over my head. It seems good information to know. I always had excellent plant growth with florescence Tube lighting. Lights were on for 9-11 hours a day. Winter time more-Summertime less. I had more Sun light in the living room in the Summer, but never direct Sun light on the tank.
Depends on the height of your tank. I'm assuming something 18" or higher you might have to look into more high light options: ua-cam.com/video/ZYe0qqFAGrI/v-deo.html
I’m glad you’re doing this topic. I’m thinking of breaking down one of my taller tanks to replace a shorter tanks. If I do that, I think I’m going to have to get a stronger light. My tall tank is 24” tall. I’m trying to figure out what light (if I need one) I should get. I have a Finnex Planted + on a 40 Breeder. I’m going to use it on a 65 Tall. I might want to try S. Repens in that talker tank. Do you think that Finnex will work fine or what light do you think would be good for a taller tank?
I have to repeat this in writing about 2-3 times a month. You made such a fine job of assembling all the useful information about light intensity that from now on, I just link your video instead. :)
I would like to get a Finnex light. Which do you recommend for a Diane Walstad type low tech tank? I heard you mention it in this series but I couldn't make out which model you recommend. The sound was garbled. Thanks!
Hi Christy, for low tech tanks, I'd usually go with the Finnex String Ray. For your tank at the height of 19", you may want to run two strips but start with one first as I'm not entirely sure what type of plants you're going for.
I dunno. How big of a tank? Since it's LED tubelight and I believe t8, you probably can to get a low light tank. I would need to know the tank height and size you're setting it up on bu probably good for a very low light tank
Great video as always. We really need someone to put together a comprehensive list of PAR readings for the most common lights we use in the hobby. I personally can't afford theses expensive LED lights and have to use the cheap Beams Work DA and I have a couple Current USA Satellite Plus LED lights and then I have the factory Marineland LED lights that came with my 55gal kit. I'm just having to assume that all of my tanks are low light. If anyone out there has the PAR readings on these lights I would really appreciate that information. Thanks for sharing and as always keep doing what you do if it works for you.
I'm planning to get one later but in then you have to buy all the lighting too to do the tests. AND it's not always going to be right because too many factors will change the par ratings on your set up but at least it's a good start. I would make a database and stuff for it to allow you to look it up on the TWB website. Gotta have rules like no hugely off brands that no one uses king thing. Just stick to more popular stuff.
The Water Box That's exactly what I'm talking about. It doesn't have to be exact numbers cause like you said there's way too many variables like if you have glass between your light and water or even tannins will change your readings but it would give us hobbyist a baseline general idea. I think a database would be really useful!! Perhaps if you can get it started then other hobbyists with a PAR meter could share information and then you wouldn't have to buy do many lights to test. Just a thought.
You missed exact the most important details regarding color of light, how we should use them? How long green, blue, white, red? SHould we use it every day with changing during 1 day of lighting all colors? Do we use each day different color?
Part 2 of he Aquarium Lighting for Planted Tanks Guide. Next video in a few days and that'll be on Color Spectrum. Have fun! Forget to hit that like button! Aquarium Lighting Guide: bit.ly/2INYuMA
Great video! When I first started I had to look at 20 different videos to get the info in this one video.
I'm glad I got most of it in one video :)

Nice!
Great info as always! Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks Heather!
Well done, this channel has great potential!
Thanks!
Great info as always! Keep it up man ;)
Thanks Fabio!
very informative content bro. !!
Glad you think so!
Could you advise me, which is better using 2 strips of lights with lower intensity or 1 light with higher intesity? Btw, nice video!
Can't wait for the next video... Thanks for the information
You're Welcome Naga! Thanks for watching buddy.
I think I need to go watch part one again. if I keep watching my plants will look better sooner or later!

Having some major melting, not sure what I did. my Val and sword plants are not happy waaa
You're nto dosing Excel are you?
Great info as always, thanks!
Thanks buddy!
Great vid on this topic. You explained it very well and used nice charts.
Thanks Damian! I'm proud of my charts! They are pretty chart. ;)

Great video man.
Thanks buddy!
Another great video, thank you!!
Thanks buddy!
I learned something again.. great info
Awesome! :) Hope you're doing good over there!
Amazing video, great insight! Can you recommend some lighting options for HC plant?

How tall is the 65?
The Water Box It’s 24” Tall
Hmmmm... is that the 36" or 48" fixture? And is it the planted+, planted + 27/7 or the planted+ 24/7 SE?
The Dimensions of the tank is 36x18x24. I currently have just the old Finnex Planted+
benzjamin13 right, and I take it the finnex is the 36" version?

hahah be my guest. :)
Great video. I felt like I'm in my school lab again lol
Hahaha! Sorry for dredging up bad memories!
I would like to get a Finnex light. Which do you recommend for a Diane Walstad type low tech tank? I heard you mention it in this series but I couldn't make out which model you recommend. The sound was garbled. Thanks!
My tank is rimless, 30 inches wide, 10 inches wide, and 19 inches tall.

Can i combine 2 or 3 philips astra led tubelight for growing plants?
I dunno. How big of a tank? Since it's LED tubelight and I believe t8, you probably can to get a low light tank. I would need to know the tank height and size you're setting it up on bu probably good for a very low light tank
Really good info💦
Thanks MFD!
nice chung!
Thanks buddy!
seneye reef moniter has a built in par meter isnt too bad. i use it for my reef and planted tank lighting.
Excellent! I have to check it out.

I also want to get a spectrometer to measure spectrum. Maybe I can fan fun it?

Could but I wanna make sure the reading are actually sourced right. Not just grabbed from the net or made up. Ya know, accountability.
The Water Box I absolutely agree. You would definitely have to consider the source.
You missed exact the most important details regarding color of light, how we should use them? How long green, blue, white, red? SHould we use it every day with changing during 1 day of lighting all colors? Do we use each day different color?
Damn. I bought week aqua V300 and it does not have any PAR Redings
Most of the lights don't have those stats on their marketing. You have to measure it with a meter.

The Water Box always has the ill videos and best information on the HOBBY!!!
❤
6500k floodlights 20 to 50 w are significantly cheap, but they need to be hung or suspended over tank
Yes
so i guess i an running super high lighting. PAR of 400 at substrate and just on PAR 850 at surface. lol
What are you using?
? What light is that
Give that I'll beat another 5-10 seconds at the start. Just saying
👍
