  • In this video we explore the area that Man vs Wild Star Bear Grylls explored in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Matt and Colt take on the infamous T-Back Trail before Breaking the Samurai and losing the brakes!! This trail system is tied in with the Bikini Trail that we filmed before this video. We then check out a super cool Jeep collection owned by our buddy Pat and even one of the first Jeeps to put in the Hammers trails in Johnson Valley California. The wife of Earl the Victor Valley CJ-6 owner, Muriel had a CB handle of Sunbonnet which became one of the trail names in the Hammers. Even the roll bar was built by Smittybilt before Smittybilt was a household name in jeep parts. We really hope you enjoy this video as much as we do and thank you for following in our adventures.

I was born in Buffalo Wyoming and lived in Rozet on a big hill. We could look West and see the little BigHorn mountains and then turnaround and look East and see the Black Hills of South Dakota. We used to drive to Rapid City all the time for various reasons. When the bottom fell out in the early 80s we moved to North Texas. Now I live in the swampland of Texas boy I miss that beautiful country up there.

I'm in the UK and all those old jeeps remind me of when I started off-roading.
I used to get one of the US magazines and it was all CJ5 and 6's with a good amount of flat fenders too doing all the rock crawling.
    Quite a change to nowadays.

i spent many hours following that cj6 around the so cal desert. i heard many people cuss earl because they couldn't follow earls line thru the rocks. i met pat in the 90's at the hammers when he broke a 44 front axle. i have a 50 year history in hard rock wheeling an have never seen 3 better drivers than earl raider, chuck harold and chuck shaner. life member VV4W

I like that look on Pats face when you asked him he was ready to go for it with out a back up. None the less he made short work of it! 🍻
That poor little Zuk definitely took the worst of it that day but things like that are bound to happen! It took me a while to find out about all of the internal workings of that rig after I first started following the channel but it is definitely an impressive rig out there on the trails going where the big boys can't! I've had that argument about sticky plugs in tires for years but I've never had any issues either.

The CJ-6 was a CJ-5 with a 20 inch longer wheelbase. Think CJ-8 to the CJ-7. It sold in very small numbers so they're pretty rare. If you look at the body you can see where the inserts were put into the body to extend it. It was derived from the military M170 which came from the M38A1.
