Thank you for the video. I lived in Carcavelos as a child and now that I am retired I am thinking of moving back. We just spent a month there and are working with 2 realtors to attain this goal. You live in a beautiful country. filled with friendly people. Compared to the USA it a truly safe place to live. When we encountered people in Portugal they often wondered why we would move from the US to PT for me one of the biggest reasons is safety. In America you can be shot pretty easily. Please keep up the good work.

This is so not true. I have family that lives in Portugal and I do love it there, it’s a safe place but you are not playing Russian roulette with your life going to the grocery store in America. It’s not “easy to be shot” by any means.

@@AV-iw3xc I am a Delawarean but I worked in Philadelphia for the transit authority on the maintenance management team. All of our repair depots are in bad areas of the city - no one wants to live near trains running around 24/7. So yes I could easily walk across the street to a store and get shot. Last year 2000 people were shot with near 500 deaths. You may not work or live in that world but I did .The US as compared to the rest of the world VERY dangerous.

@@bluehenbrian302 no, that small sub segment of the country is dangerous, as almost any city, country or continent has but again. 98% of the country, if you mind your business, you live. No need to be hyperbolic.

I have moved 3 months ago to lisbon with family. Its a very pleasant experience to live here and the living is really cheap specially groceries and my electricity gas and water bills never cross 80 euros per month with 5 family members living in house. Public transport is very reasonable and cheap. Yes the gas rates cars and property rents are higher but comparing to other countries house rents are still reasonable. It's a very nice country with amazing people and weather.ranked the third peaceful country in the world love Portugal.

Thank you for your good explanation. I'm italian, planning to move to Lisbon in a while. For what I can say, I've never seen in Italy average apartments that cost as much as in Lisbon. Maybe here in Italy, even in Florence, Rome, Milan, for 1000 euros you can rent very big houses. The average apartments here cost from 500 to 800 euros. It depends where of course. The minimun salary for 40 h per week is about 1000/1200 euros. But taxes are much more expensive in Italy. My main worry to live in Portugal is about the unfair ratio between salary and renting. About all the rest I am making a very good idea. Cheers!

Really great Video, I would just like to point out that Food in Portugal in NOT Cheap. It is (very) afordable, if you go to the right places and depending wher you are coming from. (Poland is Cheaper). Basic goods are even cheaper in Germany. (Milk /Bread/ Rice/ Sugar/ ...) Rent is getting very expensive at the moment, as now Portugal (Lisbon and Porto) are "Trendy".

Rent is getting expensive because private capital along with the banks (with the government colluding) is stockpiling property and using sharks (wi-fi professionals) to pay above-average prices for rents, thus forcing out locals!

We live in GA, just outside of Atlanta. Apart from basic food stuffs, nothing that I have researched about Lisbon or Portugal in general, is cheaper than where we currently live. You would really have to be coming from California, NY city or another large city for you to see any real savings. We like the idea of living in Portugal, but honestly our living expenses would actually increase quite a bit. We would be buying a detached house if we moved there and the price of homes is triple what we would pay here and their homes are not exactly the prettiest or particularly well designed.

No, no, no - groceries are considerably cheaper in the UK - of that I have no doubt! There are no real 'discount' stores as in the UK - I don't class Lidl/Aldi and certainly not Pingo Doce as discount. Apart from eating out and public transport, Lisbon is expensive - the oft repeated UA-cam thread of it having a low cost of living seriously needs amending.

We are American retirees thinking of moving to Portugal. Would you create a video about tax on capital gains, pensions, dividends, government social securities, IRA (individual retirement account), and RMDs (required minimum distributions from IRAs)?
The Portuguese governments advertised that NHR (non habitual resident status) residents pays No Portuguese tax for 10 years. However, I read an article in early 2020 that capital gains will be tax at 28% and pensions will be taxed, too. Does pensions include IRA and RMD?
Americans need to have personal savings since social securities is not much. It seems that the Portuguese government has "updated" tax policies for NHR. If it is true, most of American retirees with good saving cannot afford to come to retire in your beautiful country.

It's not possible to go below 300 eur on food per person, for a couple 600 eur. I'm always out looking to save some money, 300 is borderline starving.

@@josephgreen2008 We have saying "the money that is too much for dying and too little for living".
You can pay 16 eur for 250 ml beer (6-8 eur average on special beer shop), 3 eur for 1L of pure orange juice, 4 eur on 10 organic eggs, 38 eur for 1 kg of blackberries.
