- The Planet Express crew have they next delivery ready, but before they can go into outer space, Fry must get a medical examination by their trust in house physician, Doctor Zoidberg! This take a hilarious turn when the results come in.
It's been too long since the last Dark Futurama! I hope to release more in the future. Making Futurama videos are a lot more difficult, since there is less material to work with and that means more rotoscoping. Pretty much every Zapp clip i had to change out the background, lots of lip syncing done, when fry gulped as he was being held down, his head was from a completely different clip. Lots of other rotoscoping, too much to list here.

Same with the Simpsons. This channel "gets" its source material, then it makes dark jokes with it.
The good thing about doing dark futurama is that the image quality doesnt vary as wildly as the simpsons, making the editing feel more seamless.
Some of the early episodes' animation was kind of crude, but it wasn't as bad as what happened to The Simpsons over the course of 3 decades. For Futurama, it was more like the digital ink and paint programs got better and the beautiful 3D scenes got more beautiful.
@@canaisyoung3601 Yeah, the first couple episodes look a little odd but even by the end of the first season it mostly gets sorted out. The only particularly noticeable difference after that point is that the outlines are thinner and more consistent after the show was revived. Obviously nowhere near as massive a difference as the many eras of The Simpsons.
I like the crazy animation swings though haha

Serious props to Fry's voice actor, Billy West. I don't think anyone can scream like him.
Lol, it's a great scream ahaha
West can do things with his voice that sound like they were put through a studio effect. Remember the ball of energy that Bender thought was from a dimension that's big on musical theater? That was Billy West's actual voice, which the crew didn't realize at first. They thought it was the recording equipment malfunctioning.
I remember on one of the commentaries when asked was it difficult to sing in character he said it was pretty easy but the hardest thing is shouting in a characters voice.
If I'm not mistaken fry's voice is based off what Billy West thought he sounded like in his 20s, I'm also not certain on this but I think Lars voice is just his regular speaking voice . The story goes that Billy made Fry's voice pretty much his regular voice to it'd be harder/ impossible to replace him since it's easier to imitate a "characters" voice but much harder to imitate just someone's normal speaking voice

Fry's scream is like a singing angel that swoop down from the dark simpsons universe.
Fry's scream sounds like someone trying to murder a parrot who talks too much. How Billy West can do that without hurting his vocal cords, I'll never know.

What freaky stuff is Amy into? Bringing popcorn to watch Fry's colon probe, sitting satisfied with Kip while Fry and Zap are completely broken...I think she's a combination Mistress of Plowing and Snoo-Snoo!
And Kip is her second in command, doing the dirty work (as that's what he always does...)
Haha if you rewatch the show, she talks about orgies and stuff too, so yeah... lol
Amy's an interesting one. In the pre-revival era before CC started putting as much nudity from all the characters that they could get away with and kind of made it a normal thing in the Futurama universe, she always seemed the most comfortable undressing with everyone around.

Dark Futurama looks more like a real episode than the Dark Simpson, I think it’s because of the more consistent animation quality throughout the series.
Yeah lol, the change in animation in the first 5-6 seasons of the simpsons is pretty drastic
That and the fact that Futurama already has dark, twisted humor.
This may be a good diversion for when you're finding yourself with a creative block for Simpsons videos.

The masking/rotoscoping in this video was superb. Futurama is a show I've had MULTIPLE viewings of, so I recognised a lot of the shots as being in places where they didn't normally take place. I know Futurama is probably hard since there's less content to work with, but I'd love to see more.
How would you feel about doing Dark Disenchantment in the future?

I'd say this is a prime example of why this kind of cut just doesn't work as well for Futurama as it does for a show like The Simpsons. Futurama (especially in the Comedy Central era) is already over-the-top and willing to cross certain boundaries in such a way that there is less room to insert additional humor via absurd editing. That's why King of the Hill is such a popular subject for edits: the distance between the edits and the source material offers greater chances to mine for comedy gold.
