Baburaj's Jomon was hands down the best character of the movie!🔥 His character is a perfect example of how the only good guy around is usually considered the black sheep of the family/community just because of his straightforwardness and brutal honesty while the real snakes hide behind their fake religiosity and facade of neatness. And Baburaj portrayed that "Outspoken Achayan" from Kottayam so perfectly!♥️

Also it was made by Joji s classmate- thotta Sudhi..that is why Joji thought he could get away with the murder by putting the blame on Sudhi because he was specialized in making thota and hence nicknamed after it..
The "thing" that Joji picked up and threw at Jomon is a crude country bomb that is used to kill wild boars and other crop destroying pests. It is loaded in pineapple so that the gunpowder smell is masked. It will detonate with the smallest of shocks, that is why it is handled the way it was handled. You can see the construction of this in Angamali Diaries where the guy stand behind the tree and wraps his arms around it while making it. That way he will 'only' lose his arm in case it goes off..LOL
Fyi baburajs only notable role was in Salt n pepper before that he used to be the regular disposable bad guy in mass movies. (After that he end up doing comedic role) But I must say joji is by far his best.
This comment contain spoilers. I believe Joji (2021) also has influences from Alfred HItchcock's Psycho (1960). In Psycho (1960), the dangerously disturbed Norman kills his domineering Mother. In Joji (2021), the disturbed Joji kills his domineering father. Both Norman and Joji (2021) only has one surviving parent.

I felt it's a top class movie. Dileesh tried something very different and also made sure that he keeps it realistic. Few scenes were very haunting. Amazing cast. Baburaj beautifully portrayed the role. Fahadh as always great. The other brother ( whose actual name is Joji ) was great. Everyone indeed. Such a dark movie.

I think the movie is also inspired from a real event... "Joli"... She killed so many members of her husband's family along with brother in law... By mixing cyanide in their food...
You might have noticed it, but here, in most families, children live with their parents all the time. A breakdown in relationship between siblings following the death of the patriarch happens quite often.
Awesome review Melanie! I felt the surprise moments like you and yes the score was gorgeous! And the beautiful cinematography was brought to us by the same from Kumbalangi Nights.
This is a classic movie inspired by Macbeth. But Dileesh Pothen masterfully combined a western classic in a Syrian Christian backdrop. Syrian Christians are Jewish people who migrated from the middle east to Kerala before Christ and later converted to Christians by ST. Thomas happened to be a disciple of Jesus who converted them to Christianity when he landed in Kerala in 52 AD. The beauty of this movie is Dileesh Pothen who happens to be a Syrian Christian masterfully blended a Masterpiece without losing its soul.
Great review... U were spot on with fahad's character in trailer review. 👌.. Yeaa... The fridge scene was good and satisfying. 😀😀 also liked the father's dialogue on appliances manual.... Made up for the disappointment after watching 'irul'
For me what was the most disturbing scene is where the father comes home from the hospital and that priest just goes on with his prayers while the dad lays on the bed and is in so much pain. I physically felt that scene. I almost felt like I was the one laying on the bed, with a stroke and being unable to voice my discomfort or move. Though the dad was a total jerk, I felt how he must have felt and also I felt with those who were trying to get the priest to stop his never-ending prayers. He did a great job in annoying me and wanting to actually shut him up for no reason but to help the dad. It was like being straight-jacketed and suffocating at the same time. That would me horrifying to me, to be in such a situation, than actual death.
Actually its not adaptation from macbath they have heavily relied on 1985 released Malayalam filim Irakal and Malayali audience immediately spotted it and makers are not admitting it
Do you know the basil who playe the priest is an amazing director in malayalam. He have directed kunjiramayanam,&godha. Both of them are masterpirce. His upcoming movie minnal murali is a superhero movie with tovino thomas.
When Bincy says its my home u just tied the horse there that scene actually potrays entirely different politics. The real criminal awaited to perform the balance. And without losing any thing Bincy got more than what she expected
So, the patriarch of the family is played Thorappan Bastian from Spadikam. The huge guy who appears at the end as the henchman to kill Mohanlal . I know you are a Spadikam fan and thought this would be interesting trivia
I thought the scene where Bincy hires a house help was very telling. It's obvious that the father in law could have afforded to get a house help. Yet Bincy is made to slog for all the males in the house. So what's the first thing she does when the old man is dead? She gets some help. I think that single scene says a lot about all the characters-- a weak husband who doesn't have the guts to stand up to his dominating father and a woman who's desperate to get away from the drudgery.
The crude country bomb belonged to thotta sudhi. Thotta means country bomb that people use for fishing or hunting. So sudhi had to have a job description of making this, so the name 'thotta' sudhi ( the fellow joji and jomon go to question). Maybe the name is a clue
