Fun fact 2: the Kid trying to steal the guitar from Ray's Music exchange is De'voreaux White who also played Argyle, John McClane's Limo driver from Die Hard
By 1980 it is funny, and we still think of 'country and western' as one genre. But 'country' (previously called 'hillbilly' in a non-pejorative way) and 'western' used to be two separate genres.
The scene where they get inspiration from the black church to play the blues is both literally and figuratively how the blues originated in the first place. It's kind of like Jake and Elwood are giving out a history lesson on Chicago down home blues, and Belushi really did love the blues. He can sing, FOR REAL. Check him out! You'll see why a sketch comedy act from SNL had two EP albums go gold in the rhythm & blues section of the record store not next to Weird Al in the comedy section. They actually were a legit band ❤
People often don't realise how well structured the movie is. The insanity slowly increases in every scene desensitizing the audience to just how bizarre this world is. If the flying NAZI car scene had happened earlier in the movie it would have had people ignored the rest as just a stupid movie but by the time it actually happens you're OK with that level of madness which then makes the entire Illinois national guard running around shouting hut hut hut a perfectly normal thing. And an international super model waiting patiently at a sleazy motel for a guy who hasn't washed or changed his clothes in eleven days only a little outlandish.
Fun fact- During the filming of this movie As they were shooting the mall scene overnight and they broke for lunch, Belushi disappeared! The whole crew started searching for him. Dan Ackroyd wandered into the little neighborhood next to the mall and went to the only house with the lights on. He knocked on the door and the homeowner told him that Belushi had stopped by, got food from his refrigerator and was now sleeping on his couch! Belushi was so popular at that time that he sometimes wandered off during filming and he was happily welcomed in the homes of complete strangers! Ackroyd called him " Americas guest"!
@@Jutrzen Akroyd said John would want people to be able to laugh a these stories and be happy than be sad. Cab Calloway was a famous jazz performer and band leader from the 1930/40s ... watch the classic musical Stormy Weather (1943) also with other legendary performers. Calloway was the first black star to sell a million records.
I honestly think every Carrie Fisher scene reaction was the most entertaning. With the top of the charts being Samantha's facial expression when Jake drops her in the mud...watching you two watch this was JUST as funny as the movie itself LOL You've given me the best night of laughter in long time. THANK YOU!
"It finally falls apart?" "It's like 'I'm done!'" The Bluesmobile falling apart upon delivering the brothers to their destination is one of my favorite jokes. It too was on a mission from god! The car can do anything in service of delivering the boys, no matter how insane, so long as it gets them there on time! 😅
The car finally falling apart is a great joke -- and it's stolen from Buster Keaton! He did the same gag in his movie "Sherlock Jr." (1924). But you know what they say, if you're gonna steal, steal from the best.
Being a native of Joliet who was 14 years old when this premiered, it was a big part of my teens. That fall, my Catholic high school’s Homecoming Week theme was “We’re on a mission from God” and we had a Dress Like a Blues Brother Day. In my Milwaukee college four years later, my drama professor was Father Gerald Walling, who played the shorter of the two guards escorting Jake across the.Collins Street prison. When he found out I was from Joliet, he had fun telling a few stories of his couple of days filming there, mostly of how weird it was filming in a working prison.
It's funny, I have a couple of bootlegs/radio broadcasts of the original Blues Brothers band (opening for the Grateful Dead on New Year's 1978 and another from summer 1980 come to mind) and Elwood introduces them as hailing from Rock Island, Illinois. Either Joliet and Rock Island are really close to each other or Elwood couldn't make up his mind! Edit: after looking it up just now, it seems like they're sort of one and the same. Rock Island appears to stretch from Chicago proper southwest to Joliet. Great stories, by the way.
If you still live in Joliet then you must have seen the mural painting of The Blues Brothers on the wall of Collins Street Auto Parts near the prison. But I don't know what year it was painted on.
I was 12 and went to Joliet Catholic a couple years later. Watching this in a Joliet theater was surreal- the whole theater erupted when the movie opened at the prison with Joliet, Illinois on screen.
@@peterandjunko Hello from a Franny! I had that same experience but several years earlier, with the film The Sting in 1973. I was 7, and my family went downtown to the Rialto Theatre (before restoration, so it was a slightly crumbling movie palace instead of the glorious building it is now). When the opening credits ended and the first text on screen said, “1936 Joliet, Illinois”, well, I have never heard an eruption of whoops and applause like that before or since!
The guy at the prison releasing John Belushi is “Frank Oz” the voice of Miss Piggy , Bert and Grover ! And he was the cop in Trading Places! Oops and the voice of “Yoda”!!
The first and still the greatest of all SNL spinoff movies. As someone who hung around Chicago in the early 1980s, this movie captures how the town looked and felt back then like no other.
@@reservoirdude92 Also, Blues Brothers is far more cinematic. It feels like a real movie visually and in terms of pace and not just like a competently shot sketch movie. That has to put it above WW, plus the use of locations. Great.
@@reservoirdude92 You are correct about taste. Very little I find particularly funny in this movie (not that I think Wayne's World is much better). It's just the music here that makes it palatable.
This is JOHN Belushi. Jim is his brother. John was in a few movies, but was first known for being on SNL. The Blues Brothers started out as an SNL skit with Belushi and Akroyd, which grew.
Well, actually, he was first known for being in the famous comedy troupe along with Bill Murray, Harold Ramis (future ghostbusters), Gilda Radner, and many more. Even back then everyone knew he was a star and it was just a matter of time. Though tbh, people felt the same about him even in highschool when he was an american football high achieving athlete. True facts.
Cab Calloway was a singer and performer from the late 20’s through the 90’s. His big era was the 20’-30’s and into the 40’s but mostly famous during Prohibition in the 30’s. Basically invented Scat, a form of singing which he demonstrated in the movie. I got to see him live in Seattle in the 90’s a few years before his death. Even in his 80’s the man was electrifying and mesmerizing to experience. One of my favorite shows ever, SO GLAD I got to see him perform!😃
James Brown, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn are the famous musicians in this film l. The next BELUSHI movie you MUST watch is ANIMAL HOUSE!!!!!
The second blues Brothers movie although not as great is still ok! Soo many modern blues musicians are on it... bb king, eric clapton, dr john, Jimmy Vaughn, Erica badu, Travis tritt! Many more.
The backing band, along with their REAL names, were the house band for SNL, AND the TOP session musicians used by COUNTLESS of the top music acts when recording-some even recorded with Michael Jackson on his biggest albums!
If you look really carefully, in the prison audience at the end while they're singing Jailhouse Rock, one of the prisoners is Joe Walsh from The Eagles and James Gang fame.
Cab Calloway was the king of scat music. There are many compilations of his recordings on UA-cam. And there is a video of him doing scat while the Nicholas Brothers tapped danced away into the stratosphere.
I don't know why, but people never mention this in their list of favorite musicals, and it 100% is a MUSICAL. BTW, both Aykroyd and Belushi were original SNL members and the Blues Brothers was a regular skit on the show, that became so popular, it was the first of many movies that were based on SNL characters.
And a superhero movie! Superman had invincible alien powers, Batman had a massive fortune, Spiderman had radioactive spider powers, the X-men had mutant powers, but the Blues Brothers have only a shitbox dodge 😅
@@Jutrzen nah, Wizard of Oz is a musical, or practically any Disney animated movie. Rocky Horror, Little Shop of Horrors...Grease is undeniably catchy.
When Fisher unleashes her first weapon, you can hear Star Wars Blaster sound effects. The name of the beauty salon, where Fisher is reading up on Flamethrowers: The Curl Up and Dye Beauty Salon. This movie is loaded with little details that linger in the mind. The way the State Troopers hat brim has torn perfectly around, dangling over his face. No matter how bad the pile up, you can hear an officer complain over a broken watch.
6:53 - This ole fella is legendary singer, bandleader, entertainer Cab Calloway! He was huge on the big band, swing, vaudeville, and jazz scenes during the 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s. He stayed active in the biz until his death in 1994. It was because of his legend in jazz that Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi made sure he was given the part of Curtis in this movie. Calloway was a noted performer in legendary venues such as the Cotton Club. He truly was a masterclass legend in music, and is one of the people responsible for shaping popular American music. There's been many documentaries done on this man, but frankly, I'm surprised that Hollywood has yet to do any major biopic film on him yet. It's a mystery, really.
This movie was my introduction to the amazing world of Blues! The Blues Brothers is a blues and soul revue band founded in 1978 by Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi and found their way on the big screen.
you guys laughed so hard for so much of the film, brought a smile to my heart. It's nice seeing people watch this movie for the first time and enjoy themselves so much. This is my favorite musical of all time. So much fun, some of the most insane chase scenes ever put on film, with a who's who of blues & soul artists, and funny on top of it.
The SWAT team unnecessarily crawling on rooftops and rappelling down buildings to no purpose, while endlessly saying "hut hut hut" was lampooning the 1970s police TV series S.W.A.T.
And whattya know, there's a remake of that ridiculous series! The ads are a riot: the strutting, preening muscle men totally in love with themselves, proving yet again that Hollywood ran out of good ideas a long time ago.
One of my all time favourites. This movie is stacked with musical legends. James Brown, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway. And the Band consists of some of the best musicians of their time. P.S.: The man in the tax office at the end is Steven Spielberg
Dan Akroyd was the blues fan, Belushi was mainly a metal/punk vocalist originally. Akroyd persuaded him to sing in his band after having him listen to one of his main influences, the Downchild Blues Band, a Canadian blues band CURRENTLY on its farewell tour. Catch them if you can!
He was the most famous man in America for a time. The biggest star on SNL. His music albums as 'The Blues Brothers' were top of the music charts. Then he made a movie too.... Shows how even people at the very top can sadly be forgotten.
@@waltermitty4052 I suspect they'd have trouble with a lot of the humour. The classic Pryor sketch anyone...? They may also be confused as to why Chevy keeps falling down when playing the president!
Maury Sline (the booker) was played by Steve Lawrence. He and his wife Eydie Gourme were a pop duo famous from the 50's through the 70's. Great reaction!
Thanks for mentioning Steve and Eydie (pronounced ee-dee in case anyone cares). They were regular guests singing on variety shows, performing skits on comedy shows and even performed on Broadway.
John Belushi, John Candy, Dan Ackroyd, Carrie Fischer, Frank Oz, Cab Calloway, James Brown, Aretha Franklin.... I could go on forever great film. You sweet summer children.
During your outro I was trying to think of other John Belushi movies when it occurred to me, you have to watch "Animal House". That is an iconic movie that I don't think I have seen any reactors watch. I'm not sure how it holds up, but back in the olden days, it was required viewing.
Animal House is so not PC, but I still think it's hilarious. If they haven't already, I think they also need to watch Smokey & the Bandit (from a car wreck standpoint, LOLs).
Hands down one of the greatest music films ever. I have worn out a few vhs copies of this in my life! Also, their albums are pretty killer. Jake and Elwood are icons, and the cameos in this are amazing
3:10 - John Landis and Dan Aykroid decided when developing the movie that the only way to make a serious musical comedy was to start out very serious and slow with the pacing. Then just slowly turn up the speed and absurdity notch by notch. Each time just going just a bit grander and faster than the previous scene setup. This way you keep escalating tension and excitement as well as forcing the viewer to start suspending more and more of their disbelief. 3:14 - Gary Indiana. Back in the 1950s-70s it was one of the largest steel processing areas in the world. By the end of the 1980s it collapsed pretty heavily in the US industrial recession and still has had a hard time recovering. 3:55 - Jail possession officer is Frank Oz (a.k.a. Yoda, Miss Piggy, Fozzy Bear, etc) 6:01 - Kathleen Freeman, a pretty well known sitcom actress, as the nun. Born in Chicago. She was in many Jerry Lewis movies. 6:53 - The legendary Cab Callaway as Curtis Blues. 7:30 - The King of Soul, Mr James Brown. Note: Chaka Kahn, the Queen of Funk, is in the church choir. 10:10 - Yes we have Miss Piggy. Her voice was back at 3:55 10:50 - 103 more cop cars left to destroy. This is Dixie Square Mall, it was an abandoned mall by 1976. The Board of Education temporarily used it as a school while waiting for a building that was in construction and behind schedule. After this John Landis leased it from the School district in 1979. It remained closed with some remnants of the movie for over a decade slowly decaying in a partly demolished state. 11:25 - Carrie Fisher ended up getting engaged to Dan Aykroid. They eventually broke it off when Carrie Fisher went back to her old boyfriend, musician Paul Simon, which she then later married for awhile. Maybe a rocket launcher was one of the 50 Ways To Leave A Lover. 14:09 - Those are all their real names. All the band members in the Blues Brothers are real musicians. Every single one of them are legendary musicians who have played in some of the most famous soul bands that existed. 16:33 - Henry Gibson as the Nazi leader. He was well known from the Laugh-in series and from working with Jerry Lewis. The Illinois Nazi party won a first amendment court case in 1978 against the suburb of Skokie, Illinois allowing them the right to march. Dan and John felt it fun to put their spin on the feelings on the matter. 17:18 - One of the few realistic depictions of the Chicago Maxwell Street market on film. It was a massive cultural center for music, food and people having an open air market every Sunday. Not long after this film politicians got away with a large scandal by legally claiming this was Urban Blight. Many groups tried to get it protected as a historical cultural landmark but the process kept getting 'lost' or 'stalled'. They eventually forced all the lower income individuals to leave under eminent domain. Part of the land was sold to the University of Chicago for expansion, the other part was quickly sold to upper class condo developers via some very sketchy transactions. Many of the actions were essentially viewed as illegal later on, but by that point all the buildings had been torn down and turned into a gentrified area. 17:27 - The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin. 18:19 - This film is a backdoor musical. Hollywood has pretty much killed off the Musical, but John and Dan still had great love for the genre. So the concept for The Blues Brothers was to create a musical that the studio was just an Adventure Comedy. 19:20 - Subtle character subtext, only eating plain toast is a sign of long-term alcoholism. The alcohol has destroyed their ability to eat much other than simple well-cooked carbohydrates 19:22 - Ray Charles 37:00 - They just needed an excuse to drop a car from a helicopter over the Chicago skyline. 40:15 - Tax assessor clerk is Stephen Spielberg
LOVE this movie, Dan Aykroyd & John Belushi released 3 albums as The Blues Brothers ( 2 live albums & the Official Soundtrack Album), they even had a number 2 hit single on the Billboard Hot 100 With a cover version of 'Soul Man'
ALL of the musicians in this are very well known and regarded. Several are musical royalty! Steve Cropper is best known for being the Stax records session guitarist, later going on to compose and perform on many of Otis Redding’s hits, such as Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay!
1980 gave me three of my favorite comedies. The Blues Brothers, Airplane!, and Used Cars. Wish someone would react to Used Cars. When I saw this in the theater, the SWAT team yelling "hut hut hut" cracked me up. Just when I stopped laughing about it, they cut back to them repelling down the columns "hut....hut.... hut". Another joke that got me was when the two nazis were falling to their death and one turned to the other and said "I've always loved you". The only physics this movie was concerned with was Looney Tunes physics.
No movie ever has made me laugh harder the first time I saw it than Used Cars. I've been banned from every used car lot in a 200 mile radius from my house for just wandering on their lots, picking one of their more "cherry" vehicles and randomly shouting,"That price is TOO F*CKING HIGH!"
This film gave a big boost to several of these great musicians, who were then past the height of their fame. I think it was Ackroyd who said signing them was easy-- "all we had to do was offer to pay them!"
Many of us 80s kids grew up rewatching this movie an unhealthy amount of times then spent the rest of our lives quoting it. This movie is bonkers so i knew you two would love it considering you loved how crazy Raising Arizona was (especially RA's chase scene). Love the channel!
1.This was Dan Aykroyd's baby that started out as a SNL skit. He eventually got with Landis (thus Chicago) and it was built on that. There were already songs made for the Blues Brothers from SNL They also put out one album. 2. All-star cast.🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 3. Booking officer is Frank Oz. Voiced Yoda, Miss Piggy and other Muppets. 4. "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we have a full tank of gas, a half pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses, hit it" 5. A MUCH better Musical (even better than Grease IMVHO). It's "Hair" 1979. John Savage, Treat Williams and Beverly D'Angelo. Milos Foreman directed. "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest" and "Hair" 6. They smash so many cars that "Smokey and the Bandit" was practice. WE'RE ON A MISSION FROM GOD😇😇
They were a real band, and April 22, 1978 went down in history as the day The Blues Brothers made their world premiere on SNL, they were also cast members. Among the many vehicles in the movie, the production team bought the entire fleet of retiring Chicago police cars, 64 of them at $400 each. They set the record of 104 cars destroyed during filming, the sequel in 2000 set the new record by 1 with 105 cars wrecked. The mall destruction was done in a mall that had been abandoned for a year. I read somewhere that they spent upwards of $30,000+ to refurbish a lot of the storefronts (Toys-R-Us) and restock the window displays. Certainly is fun to watch, but imagine being one of the teamsters getting to do the driving. Fun fact, @10:43 John Landis was the cop driving the police car that flips upside down in the mall.
Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi started the Blues Brothers act back in 1978 as a warmup act for Steve Martin. Later on they brought the act on SNL. It got so popular that it made this movie possible, but it was also a project they just worked on on their own. They have played concerts and released several albums. Even though it was in many ways technically a comedy act they took the music seriously, and if you happen to enjoy that style of music, their albums are well worth giving a listen.
John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd from Saturday Night Live fame had a skit where they dressed up as bees and buzzed in a bluesy way that morphed into an ongoing skit as the Blues Brothers where they and this band performed. Those skits were so well received that they eventually made this movie. I'm pretty sure this was the first of many movies from SNL that started as a skit for the show and became a movie later on ala Wayne's World, A Night at the Roxy and a few others. Awesome reaction guys :)
This movie held the guinness world record for the most car destroyed in a movie set for a long long time. Only to be beaten by its own sequel blues brothers 2000, starring john's brother jim
This is a comedy, a musical, and an action film all in one! I was 9 years old when I saw this in the theater and it was a blast. I bought the soundtrack afterwards and listened to the music all the time. Hell, I STILL have a few of those songs on my playlist today!
"Who is that girl?!" Elwood's line becomes insanely funny moments later when Carrie Fisher lays out her motive, but it's overshadowed by Jake begging for his life. How did Elwood not know his brother was engaged, and why wasn't he invited to the wedding? 🤣🤣🤣
Fun fact never revealed in the film, but revealed in a book by Aykroyd and Judith Jacklin Belushi called "The Blues Brothers: Private", Carrie Fisher's name in the movie was Camille.
Its a love letter to the Blues, and real old school R&B. So many greats on show, though most reactors don't know most of them these days. Remember watching this for the first time and thinking... I know that voice when Frank Oz made his cameo at the start of the movie.
I saw this in 1980 theatrically when I was just about 13 years old. It introduced me to a variety of music and artist I didn’t even know existed. This is my favorite musical of all time.
I had tears down my face because your laughter made me laugh twice as hard as normal during this reaction. There's never been another SNL spinoff even remotely this good.
You are fantastic, and I love your reactions and your laughs. I can't help but laugh with you. This is a wonderful chance to hear o watch some videos and songs of those marvelous artists . Keep your good job, guys. Peace.
Jim Belushi is John Belushi's brother. Neither were in Trading Places with Dan Aykroyd. At the time, the shopping mall scene was the most expensive scene ever filmed. They found an abandoned mall, then fixed it up to look like an active mall. After filming, the studio was sued by the mall's owner because they failed to clean up or repair any of the damage done. It has since been demolished. This movie set a record with 104 cars destroyed during filming. The Blues Brothers 2000 broke the record with 105. The record has since been shattered, mostly by the Fast and Furious movies. The band members (Donald "Duck" Dunn, Steve Cropper, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, etc) were all accomplished and respected session musicians of the time. They'd worked with everyone who was anyone in the music business. Cab Calloway was a popular singer and bandleader in the early 20th century, known for his scatting talents. You should check out this scene with the Nicholas Brothers in the 1943 film Stormy Weather, a dance number that Fred Astaire called "the greatest dance number ever filmed": ua-cam.com/video/_8yGGtVKrD8/v-deo.html
21:25 - He's late actor Henry Gibson. Not sure which movies you could have likely seen him in, but here's a shortlist of what I think you may have watched: "Inner Space" (1987), "Wedding Crashers" (2005), "Magnolia" (1999), "The Nutty Professor" (1963)? He has at least 160 acting credits to his resume, and he's been in the business since 1963; so, it could be just about anything, lol.
The priest in the church is James Brown and the one lady in the choir is Chaka Khan . Ms. Chicken Wings is Aretha Franklin. In 1980 (I'm 62 today) it was an absolute cult film here in West Berlin, Germany and has remained so.
John is the Belushi with talent you really need to see Season One of Saturday Night Live...Also from the days of Practical (pre CGI) Special Effects and physical Books...this film held the Guinness' Book of World Records record for 'Most Cars wrecked in the making of a Motion Picture' I believe the number was 106.
Steve Cropper wrote most of the music in this film, as well as writing for Queen Aretha, Willson Picket, Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Booker T and the M.G.'s and the beatles wanted him for a few songs but the trip was cancelled late minute for security reasons. Also both Dan and John were massive Blues fans with Dan being a Delta blues fan. The film came from sketches of songs they did on Saturday Night Live. They also played real live shows at places like the Hollywood Bowl. I have seen the Blues Brothers Band with everyone apart from John and Dan about 6 times they were awesome.
The lead Nazi is Henry Gibson. Prior to this movie he was best known as a regular on the sketch comedy show "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In". He used to hold a big flower and recite poems, which kind of made him being cast as a Nazi a joke in itself.
The head of the Nazis is played by Henry Gibson. He was a regular on Rowan and Martin's "Laugh-In". Carrie Fisher and Dan Ackroyd got engaged shortly after making this movie.
One of my fave films of all-time - glad you finally got to it and loved it (how can you not). Dan & John were on the way out of SNL when they were in production for this - the first off-shoot SNL film BTW. Fun fact - during filming one day on location John was MIA and Dan went searching in a nearby neighborhood going door to door and finally found him - he had been exhausted and knocked on a random home's door and said "Hi, you know who I am; could I get a bite to eat and crash on your sofa?" and the family literally did just that (Dan called John "America's Guest" from that point on). I even have a huge framed poster of them w/the quote about "106 Miles to Chicago - it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses'" in the alcove of my apartment. Jim actually had a small stint on SNL shortly after his big bro died (both did Second City improv in their native Chicago) and made appearances w/Dan in live concerts for years after. RE: Landis - I urge you to seek INTO THE NIGHT another crazy quilt comedy loaded w/random cameos starring Jeff Goldblum & Michelle Pfeiffer.
Fun fact: the clerk they give the money to at the end is none other than Steven Spielberg
They were friends until Landis got Vic Morrow and two young children killed on the set of "Twilight Zone: The Movie."
Nobody ever clocks that. Saw this for the first time at like 9 and I was like “SPIELBERG?!!!” 😂
Also, Joe Walsh was the first prisoner to jump up.
Fun fact 2: the Kid trying to steal the guitar from Ray's Music exchange is De'voreaux White who also played Argyle, John McClane's Limo driver from Die Hard
Nobody ever gets Spielberg or Yoda saying "soiled".
I always chuckle when they ask, "what kind of music do you have? Both kinds, country and western." 😂
By 1980 it is funny, and we still think of 'country and western' as one genre. But 'country' (previously called 'hillbilly' in a non-pejorative way) and 'western' used to be two separate genres.

I honestly think every Carrie Fisher scene reaction was the most entertaning. With the top of the charts being Samantha's facial expression when Jake drops her in the mud...watching you two watch this was JUST as funny as the movie itself LOL You've given me the best night of laughter in long time. THANK YOU!
Ironic that she was dating Dan in real life at the time!
Carrie Fisher's character in this movie was awesomely funny. It's probably my favorite thing in the movie.
"It finally falls apart?"
"It's like 'I'm done!'"
The Bluesmobile falling apart upon delivering the brothers to their destination is one of my favorite jokes. It too was on a mission from god! The car can do anything in service of delivering the boys, no matter how insane, so long as it gets them there on time! 😅
It was always my belief that the car is being held together by the power of God until they make it to their destination.
@KayKay14m It 100% is running on faith after it throws the rod!
The car finally falling apart is a great joke -- and it's stolen from Buster Keaton! He did the same gag in his movie "Sherlock Jr." (1924). But you know what they say, if you're gonna steal, steal from the best.
Bluesmobile falling apart was an old joke stolen directly from the old movies, especially Laurel and Hardy

The first and still the greatest of all SNL spinoff movies. As someone who hung around Chicago in the early 1980s, this movie captures how the town looked and felt back then like no other.
Nah, Waynes World
@@justonjenkins1589probably just a matter of taste, but I think The Blues Brothers is infinitely funnier and WAY more entertaining.
@@justonjenkins1589 Wayne's World is second, but I respect that.
True facts.
@elcorado83 it's a shame that he was dying in his prime.
She asks: “How much destruction is in this movie?”
Ummm, wait for it.
I think the mayor of Chicago who okayed it lost the next election because of all the disruption the movie caused. 😂
yes
@christhornycroft3686 what ? Why it is a big deal ?
The next BELUSHI movie you MUST watch is ANIMAL HOUSE!!!!!
johm lee hooker, chaka kahn.
And John Lee Hooker!
He was the embodiment of 'cool'. Put him in a room with the 'coolest' star you know from ANY eta, and they'll look like a geek by comparison!
A classic comedy and a classic musical wrapped in one. This movie never gets old.
Sam's face as Jake just dumps Carrie in the mud is the absolute highlight of the reaction.
This is hands down the greatest musical of all times. The star power has and will never be matched again.
It's the only good musical.

The charming Trooper with the broken watch is singer Stephen Bishop, by the way.

" We're On A Mission From God"- the most famous icon movie quotes 😂😂😂😂
This was a lot of fun laughing along with you guys. Your reactions are so genuine. Glad you got to see this for the first time.

There is a grainy video on UA-cam with a young cab Calloway, singing his hit, Minnie the Moocher.
If you really want to see a crazy performance, youtube Cab Calloway Nicholas Brothers.
you guys laughed so hard for so much of the film, brought a smile to my heart.
Best part of this reaction was watching you guys crack up. Enjoyed your post. Thanks.

Yoda, Miss Piggy, Fozzy Bear, etc)
6:01 - Kathleen Freeman, a pretty well known sitcom actress, as the nun.
Her voice was back at 3:55
10:50 - 103 more cop cars left to destroy.
The alcohol has destroyed their ability to eat much other than simple well-cooked carbohydrates
19:22 - Ray Charles
37:00 - They just needed an excuse to drop a car from a helicopter over the Chicago skyline.
40:15 - Tax assessor clerk is Stephen Spielberg
There are so many music legends that were in film. What a classic. Also, Steven Speilberg makes a cameo as well.
Thank you for leaving in the famous line”106 Miles To Chicago It’s Dark And We’re Wearing Sunglasses 🕶️ “!!!

I second Used Cars. A criminally underrated comedy.
I third Used Cars!
Fourth for Used Cars!
I fifth Uses Cars. With Jack Warden pulling double

The Blues Brothers band were great musicians and John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd were fantastic performers, look up "Soul Man" live on SNL.
'The bees morphed into the blues brothers'-probably cos Belushi hated the bee suits so much...

One of my top ten movies
Pretty sure this movie still holds the record for the most vehicles destroyed on screen. I love the Blue Brothers :)

The head of the Nazis is played by Henry Gibson. He was a regular on Rowan and Martin's "Laugh-In". Carrie Fisher and Dan Ackroyd got engaged shortly after making this movie.
Since they did a reaction to _The ‘Burbs,_ they probably recognize him as Dr. Werner Klopek.
The mall scene takes me back to when a drunk driver crashed through my local mall after hours about a decade ago.
Me 10 seconds in to this review:Hell yeah John candy is in this Samantha 😂. it's so fun to watch you guys work this intro of confusion out😊
One of my fave films of all-time - glad you finally got to it and loved it (how can you not).
