I've previously learned the value of blocking!!! I've got my own method I use but am not averse to finding new points to incorporate into my blocking. I've scored on your video!! I haven't used a grid but I will now after seeing you use one. Liked your side demo on blocking picots too . Found your video from Facebook group. By the way I am jealous that you still have a Kmart!! They closed all of them here in Canada long ago 😢. Loved shopping there and still have a lot of their products that I did purchase.
So glad you enjoyed the video. I know a lot of people who don't see the point of blocking - I am a bit of a perfectionist... but then you only have to take a look at what I started with and the end result! I personally, think it speaks for itself!! I do prefer to use a grid, it helps me to get everything 'squared up' and is so helpful when you go to attach the next round. Kmart is certainly good value for money. Do you have something like a $2 store?
@@NooBearAus Yes, we have our Dollarama. I found some free printables online for the grids. I used them tonight already. I thought I was pretty good at eye-balling my blocking but the grid took away the guess work. The printables are adjustable to how many 'spokes' in the wheel you have or how small you want it when you print it out. I blocked my newly tatted earrings that are only 1 1/2" diameter and 6 sets of rings. Grids worked even for this small of a project! Won't block without them now! Thanks again!
They are just kids play foam mats. I will put in a link so you can see what they are. This link is for Spotlight, but a few places sell them. Helpful explanation it's the first time I've come up with a blocking video (but I'm also kind of a beginner) You never show in which phase of this procedure do you damp or wet your work. Is it just after you finished all the ''pinning down"? Also,do you know if "steaming" is a more effective method? Thanks for reading. Byee, Christina:)
I don't show it as my camera isn't set up over the tap! 🤣 But at 3:17 I do say "place your work on the mat while it's still damp" You can 'pin and sprtiz' but the work is easier to manipulate if it's wet.
@@NooBearAus Ohh okayy I thought you first pin and then wet with a sprayer, not that you run the whole thing under water. Thanks! And, again, do you have an opinion on steaming?
Is it possible to block and stiffen at the same time? I am running out of time to finish off a gift and was thinking about doing both at the same time. Many thanks
Possibly, but I've never done it like this so can't say for sure. My concern would be it sticking to the blocking board. Even when I stiffen on cork I still like to move the piece now and again to make sure it doesn't permanently stick - that's going to be tricky when it's full of pins! Sorry, I realise that's not a very helpful answer for you.
Blocking really makes all the difference on the look of the finished work! :) Such a great tutorial
It certainly does!

I am sorry, but I couldn't understand what is the name of the mat you got at Target? Thank you for posting this video.

You can put subtitles on in youtube videos. There's a little icon down the bottom of the video.
