  • The advantage of winding your shuttles using the CTM is that you don't have to hide tails or deal with knots

Hahaha -I've had a little practice! I hope the video helped you with CTM.... it was midnight and I probably shouldn't have tried to film anything that needed to be coherent; but it was an opportunity! 😜🤣

Thank you! Although I can't take credit for the idea... just sharing what I know. :)

Thank you for this clear demonstration. May I ask, why do it like this, and not just wind your 1st shuttle, then have enough thread coming out of the ball, cut it from the ball and then wind that thread onto 2nd shuttle?

You could do it that way, but you will end up with a mass of tangled thread! Winding it onto the first shuttle keeps it 'orderly' and prevents it from tangling up on itself.

Is this the best way to not make any knots and have a neat start when using 2 shuttles ?
Also, if the pattern doesn't define the length of the tread needed, is there any way to calculate (in accordance with the size of the tread, the number of rings and chains there are on the pattern or another factor) the needed thread length from beforehand so as to wind continuously and not have to cut and add new threads many times as you go?
Thanks for reading. I'd appreciate to receive an answer of yours :)

That depends on what you're trying to do. One colour - yes. Two colours, no as obviously you will have tails, so you would have to TOT then.
I'm not going to answer the second part of your question here as I see you've found the video I was going to recommend! I will have a look at your question there.
