When you're working with that clay, try starting with tinfoil as your base for large objects (ex when creating a body or head). It will use less clay and give you structure to characters that stand, or are large and get heavy
If you want to reduce the amount of hair and fluff in your clay, take a scrap piece and wipe down your craft area and hands with it. Keep that piece for that purpose exclusively, it's reusable. I really enjoy watching your videos, they are very entertaining. :-)
I think watching you record this would be the best thing ever , but i'm pretty sure i could not stay quiet the whole time because you're kinda hilarious
I was in the middle of a mental breakdown, actually losing my mind because I needed some inspiration and some creativity to come right up my nostrils and help me do my job when I started lurking on UA-cam, watched some AmazingPhil and also got some of PJ and decided to look up your channel. and now I see what I've been missing this whole time: KickThePj. Thank you, now I'm a bit more awake, inspired and ready but most importantly HAPPY.
This is the most satisfying video every of a guy having the time of his life making clay figurines and voicing random characters and creating random songs and jokes.
Clay tips. Toothpicks are your best friends. They can make really good support frames (much better than wires) as well as being great for tiny details. You can also break them into whatever size needed. For something like LSP's arms, or Fuzwald's cheek, there wasn't ever any hope for them to stay on the way you put them on. Put wires in thin bits like arms if you have to have arms.Try to avoid thin bits as much as possible. For the cheeks, make them flush against the face, not sticking out like they were. One last thing, I've never like using Fimo. It's hard and tends to crumble. A much more user and beginner friendly clay is Sculpy. It's soft and easily moldable while still being a good quality. You're doing quiet well for only of used clay once or twice, so don't give up. It takes a while to figure out what works and what doesn't. Keep it up!
Honestly I appreciate and respect PJ as a creator so much. Here he is putting out content that is completely different from any other UA-camr and makes videos that are super unique and creative, and also humorous. Huge props to you my good sir!
For making a symmetrical star: draw with the cutting thing lightly(or with a toothpick or something) so that you also have a pentagon. Cut out the stuff you don't want. Flip the star over. Apply to forehead. Or Print out a star the size you want. Use as a template. Cut out parts of clay you don't want. Apply to forehead.
I'm late but if you put tinfoil over the clay characters when they go in the oven you won't have to worry about them burning, just make sure that the tinfoil is not touching the clay or it will make the clay shiny.
Wow I LOVED that shot where you had them in a line and each one individually came into focus! Beautiful! And Fuzzwald looks so cute, if that was sold I surely would buy it :)
when i sculpt, to join things properly you have prod hole into the place you're gonna stick a thing too and the to be sticked part of the thing itself. i think that helps with joining two bits of clay
You could use a little palette knife to blend the edges of the clay together so that it won't fall off after baking. Also, to clean up the dust and little fibre that was mixed in the clay, you could dip a cotton butt into rubbing alcohol and it will clean up the surface.
Hi, this isn't relevant but last night I had a dream that you changed your name to Bean. On a slightly more relevant note, this video is so funny! And every time I watch one of your videos at the moment your creativity inspires me to want to start making UA-cam videos myself
I was waiting for another clay crafting! As a 'avid' polymer clay user I think I have tips...? 1. Exacto knives work the best, as they are good for small details and sculpting alike.2. Nail polish remover and a cotton pad or ball can be used to clean off the dirt and dust (like on Ponyo's head) and also smooth out clay3. Dotting tools come in very useful4. Baby lil can be used to soften clay, just don't use too much or it will get EVERYWHERE5. Different brands have different temperature needs (?) so for very warm body heat/ hands Fimo works best because it is firmer, Sculpey is good for colder hands/body heat and is softer.6. You can really easily mix clay colors and even brands. Straight out of the package sometimes doesn't meet the correct color, so just stretch and fold until all the color in incorporated.7. To make sure body parts don't fall off, blending arms or legs into the body with your fingers works well. Also, TLC (Translucent liquid Sculpey or liquid clay) can be used as a bakeable glue for eyes or small details.8. For skinny characters, using a wire and tinfoil skeleton and then sculpting the clay around the foil works to give them structure.9. Make sure the characters aren't top heavy. The head being too heavy will cause them to not stand up. Try hollowing it out or put weight on the feet.10. Practice really does make perfect, and branching out into new techniques is super helpful. UA-cam has great tutorials for different things. Sorry that was so long, I hope this helps. ❤️
I make miniature clay sculptures and to get different parts to stay together (like arms on LSP) you can by something called "liquid clay" which is exactly what it sounds like and it can be used as a glue to keep starts together before you bake them. :) you can mix a small amount of regular clay to give it color since liquid clay is an opaque white color. Hope this helps! You can also use corn starch to help smooth the clay and get rid of fingerprints. And it's better to over bake instead of underbake. If it's not baked long enough it'll be very fragile. How long did you bake them for? I would've baked your fuzzwald for about 2 hours. And you can also do a double bake which is then you bake the largest part (like the body) first and for a longer time then you add the smaller parts (arms, legs, etc) using the liquid clay as your binding agent and then you bake the finish product again for a much shorter period of time. I hope this helped in some way!!
clay crafting tip!!! don't make them too thick (it makes the baking a little wonky), and always warm up the clay before you work with it!! if you're attaching 2 pieces of clay score them and put a tiny bit of water on one side before you put them together (they'll be less likely to fall off when you bake them). in the case of lsp's arms, you could also try and mold the smaller piece into the bigger one by spreading the clay on the end of the arm into the body
legit clay tip (cause I take ceramics at school) : to attach two pieces together, you must add a velcro-like scratch at the places you want to attach it and add a tiny bit of water before attaching(we call this scratch 'n scoring). This will pervent things from falling off, like lsp's arms & fuzzwalds cheek.
I learned in art class to make a general shape out of tin foil then cover it in a layer of clay bc the tin foil is easy to mold round shapes and it's easy to just put the clay on top of that using wire as needed. It also saves money on the clay and you can make bigger things
I would recommend watching polymer clay tutorials. After baking the clay, if you find any dust or fuzzies on it then use rubbing alcohol and it should wipe away the dust or fuzzies. Use translucent liquid or glue- or wires to put fallen or broken parts back together. Tooth picks work as well. You can shape aluminum foil then mold clay over it to not waste so much clay and not make the object heavy. Brushing glaze and adding a few coats over the finished pieces can really make it looks nice.
to keep things from falling off, you could try to blend joins together really well, of use translucent liquid clay as a sort of 'glue' before baking. It helps me a lot.
My tips: -lay aluminum foil down to avoid sticking, cover them in foil to cook faster -crosshatch the body and arms to make them stick better -cook in microwave oven if one is available -use Sculpey rather than Fimo if you can find it in the UK!
Translucent liquid Sculpey is an absolute dream for securing arms and penguin-cheeks. And sculpting is definitely an art form that gets easier with practice, even though keeping tiny hairs out of white clay never really does.
Clay crafting tip: make a smol indentation for the eyes so that when you put on the eyes they don't stick out as much ✨✨✨ Clay Crafting tip #2: use acetone or nail polish remover to get rid of the fuzz that gets stuck on white clay✨✨✨ Clay Crafting tip #3: Don't get discouraged if your not good with clay at first it takes some practice✨✨✨
A friend just spammed me to search for this comment and that I should reply to it so it will get to top comments so that he can finally get to know what the song's name is. Praise the sun \[V]/ and kill me now @KickThePj
Tips for working with clay Btw I'm not a professional but I've worked with polymer clay -wash your hands when going from very different colours (black to white; purple to yellow) -use rubbbing alcohol and a q-tip to remove the fibers and fingerprints from the clay pieces -use reference pictures cuz why not -squish the clay eyes/blush into the face a bit more to keep them on The pieces look really good, keep it up :D
7:28 - 7:34 PJ sounds more like fucking shaggy from scooby doo than Mr meeseeks, when he says meeseeks arent supposed to live this long I fucking imagined him saying scoobs straight after 😂
Oh! For once I can actually give a tip :D I made a mermaid-like figure with Fimo a while back, and I got it to sit upright by baking it lying on its back with a lump of aluminium foil under the tail where it folded. That way the angle in the tail stayed in the oven, and now its sitting on the shelf next to me with its tail bent over the edge! Using that foil to support the clay figures can be pretty handy :)
A lil bit of water with your fingers or a smooth curved sculpting knife can help when connecting parts to the base (arms and such) to smooth them together. This also helps them not fall apart after baking.
If you need to add more definition to curtain curves after you blend (around shapes and arm bends etc.) you can take a pressed or loose powder pigment in black or a darker shade of what you are blending into to define and then blend out. Or you could use paint deluded as you blend away from the darker deeper places, this is a bit harder to blend as smoothly as the powder pigments but it still works well with a lot of time working with it with more fluffy brushes, (Water colors are a bit easier because you can go back with more water to fix mistakes unlike acrylic or tempera paint). I do this after it bakes then set it with an acrylic seal (matte or gloss).
i mean i feel bad that i can't like a video every time i watch it because i did enjoy the video pj i truly did but i already liked it on my first watch and here we are however many watches later AND I CAN'T FLIPPING LIKE IT AGAIN
Sara please do not use water on polymer clay! That may work with most air dry clays but since polymer clay is a plastic it wont work. If anything, using a bit of vaseline will soften it up! Sculpey also sells some softer clays that work pretty well.
all those general jokes/retirement jokes made me think of the song from White Christmas lmao. "What do you do with a general when he stops being a general? Oh, what do you do with a general who retires?"
Love them! Ponyo is such a good movie ^-^ (For the little fuzzies in the clay, a super clean surface helps, as well as cleaning the clay with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol before baking)

Natalie Hodges I'm sorry to be that person but tinfoil is reaaally bad for the environment :(

After baking the clay, if you find any dust or fuzzies on it then use rubbing alcohol and it should wipe away the dust or fuzzies.

You can shape aluminum foil then mold clay over it to not waste so much clay and not make the object heavy.
Brushing glaze and adding a few coats over the finished pieces can really make it looks nice.
If someone just heard him talking without knowing the context, they would probably think he was insane
to keep things from falling off, you could try to blend joins together really well, of use translucent liquid clay as a sort of 'glue' before baking. It helps me a lot.
"Who am I talking to?" I ask myself that every day...
I love to see more characters. Honestly, it is oddly satisfying watching something made out of clay

-use rubbbing alcohol and a q-tip to remove the fibers and fingerprints from the clay pieces
-use reference pictures cuz why not
-squish the clay eyes/blush into the face a bit more to keep them on

Really PJ...You just need to use a little water to make the clay softer and make the molding easier...
Sara please do not use water on polymer clay! That may work with most air dry clays but since polymer clay is a plastic it wont work. If anything, using a bit of vaseline will soften it up! Sculpey also sells some softer clays that work pretty well.
You can also use baby oil instead of branded clay softener
Sara not really
That's a polymer clay. It's like wax you can't mix it with water
*moulding
all those general jokes/retirement jokes made me think of the song from White Christmas lmao.
