Rewarding the barbless hook rule is a great idea!!!! People (the child) will help pick up garbage when somebody (you guys) take the lead. I pick up garbage in my neighbourhood every April 22nd (Earth Day) and October 22nd which is 6 months later. I notice less and less garbage every year. Less than a ice cream pail full back in April 2024. KEN
@@AquaticMonkey I live in Williams Lake and there is a group of people that walk the town picking up trash, needles and all shit, literally. It's making a difference. K
Guides use BARBED HOOKS... I was in Port Alberni checking out the numerous salmon caught during their annual Salmon fishing derby... One guide outfitter had a tub of chinook/springs.. I noticed red hooks with cut lines/leaders still imbeded in almost all the salmon in that tub... I pulled 4 out...EVERY ONE WAS BARBED... AND they were in the line to enter them salmon in the derby. SO asked what's the restrictions on using BARBED HOOKS...
Ocean is different from freshwater there are many species in the ocean you can target with treble barbs. But if you are targeting salmon I believe it's still supposed to be barbless.
We have talked about several things, but I think that starts pushing it a bit too far. One that I might do one day is walk around looking for someone who has caught a large spring and see if it's been recorded
@@AquaticMonkey Probably counting fish????? as you don't need to be that low to count fishers. They count the steelhead in the very upper Chilko River that way every year. The count is so low that for years now you can't even catch and release. I can't tell you why in a public forum. K
@@AquaticMonkey Mabe somebody went into the river and drowned and they are looking for a body. Did you hear anything since you filmed this video.Yes, in the Vedder it must be somewhat difficult to count moving fish but in the Chilko R they have made it to the spawning ground and they stand out very well in the crystal clear water. There used to be a catch and release when there was an estimated 300 steelhead returning but the last time I heard the count it was down to about 65 fish. We were hoping for a "endangered species" proclamation which would stop ALL fishers and money would be infused to help the almost extinct Chilko run but it never happened. K
It’s bad enough people are using barbed singular hooks but the people using those massive trembled barbed hooks are just shameful and aren’t true fishermen/women
i saw a guy in a white mercedes with an N sticker nearly take out a family of 4 with a high speed lane shift in abbotsford. Why don't you get on your soapbox about new drivers in Abbotsford acting like crminals? Compared to that wtf does a bardbed hook matter. Maybe do a video about something hard and complicated like people's insane need to be driving aggressivly on Hwy 1? Yeah yeah barbed hooks are bad blah blah.
Sounds like you're trying to justify the use of barbed hooks simply because there are people who are doing worse things in the area that can cost someone's life, you are completely blowing it out of proportion. Just because you don't drive like an idiot doesn't mean you can fish with barbed hooks.
@@Alex-wi2vf Nope. Im saying you are being lazy on an easy hit piece. It's like saying pedofiles are bad. Big woop. That Takes zero effort. Because my page is about water and the environment. Did you do anything in that situation did you even call it in to the police? For some reason I always end up working on that day! I have missed group cleanups for the past like 3 years!

Good on you guys for doing that. Mostly everyone was barbless...
Good Job , I love that . 😍
Your river education day is awesome. Nice sponsors too. Thanks for being a great BC clean waters advocate. 👍💦🤙
Hi Clay. My favourite type of video. Do you ever see some people leave knowing what you are doing? KEN
Haha yes last year we had a couple people scurry away seeing us coming. This year was good though!

Are those triple hooks also up for grabs? I’d love to take those as a prize
Haha nope!

I think the chopper was looking for Rambo!!!! Wrong river. DFO doing a fish or fisherman count.
Why so low though?
