Primo will take a little piece of a sample, make a beat around it and make it so obscure that you don't even catch the sample. Forever my favorite producer, great job, Furio!
Incredible video. Excellent breakdown of the complexities behind Premo's productions. He's my all time favorite producer. His beats just hit differently. Grimy and classic at the same time. Takes me back to the 90s in NYC. First time I ran into you channel. Subbed immediately.

@@DJFurio and it bugs me out when one guy said in the comment that he will take madlib and black over premo knowing damn well they no where near his level
Preem and his scratch hooks were era defining. He wasn’t as technical like you said but man were his cuts pin point accurate and imaginative! Whenever a new Premier produced song came on I was definitely listening for those cuts.
So many of these Premier produced tracks are consistently being listened to by me!!! I remember losing my mind trying to record You Know My Steez by Gang Starr off the radio as a teenager lol! 😆 That was my jam 🤣
Premo represents something that is missing today. Not saying a producer of today has to be doing 90s stuff but premo’ stuff was innovative and hard hitting. It was like wow he did that !

RZA is the best HipHop producer ever. He did 5 classics albums in a row. Wu-Tang - 36 Chambers (1993), Method Man - Tical (1994), GZA - LiquidSwords (1995), ODB - Return to the 36th Chambers(1995), Raekwon - OB4CL (1995). Just imagine producing an album for ODB.
Not all of those was elite work premo did all gangstarr albums plus plus jerus first 2 and he carried group home living proof it's because of him that album is a classic
I noticed Preemo started taking out the hi-hat in many of his beats around the time of "The Ownerz" album. Just an observation. He's definitely in my top 5 (along with Dilla, Pete, RZA and Dre).
That's a crazy story about Sankey's Soap. I used to travel there from Merseyside back in the mid-'90s as well. Best shows I saw Bootsy Collins and Rufus Thomas. I was also there for the UK DMC Final in '97, which was the only time the Final was ever held outside London. Apparently DJ Pogo owns the footage from that night. DJ Excel should've won in my opinion.
Bootsy Collins and Rufus Thomas sounds amazing. I didn’t get to that DMC final. I entered DMC for the first time in 98 and that was at The Boardwalk that has also shut down years ago. I played with Pogo and Swifty years ago. Great guys.
@@DJFurio yeah, DJ Noize performed at the DMC Final as well. By the way, did you go to Fresh '97 in Folkstone to see Noize and the Skratch Piklz? I was planning on going, but couldn't find anywhere to stay, so didn't make it. I went to fresh '98 in London, but Roc Raida, Shortkut and Vinroc all cancelled at the last minute, so I was a bit pissed off about that.
Didn’t get to Fresh 97 but I’ve got it on VHS somewhere. I’ve seen Noize a few times. Serious battle DJ. I met Roc Raida at one of the DMC finals in London. Was a seriously nice guy to talk to. I’ve seen QBert and Mixmaster Mike separately a few times but never as ISP. QBert’s scratches are just on another level
@@DJFurio Did you ever see Noize at the '94 Supermen battle in New York? The footage is on here. I think it's the greatest performance by a DJ in a battle.
Preemo is a different guy, not only because of countless productions, but his beat is different, but because of the drums. Preemo is great, but for me, Pete is number one ! Follow next: Pete, Preemo, Dilla, Madlib
Late but great Dilla with the micro chopping! Madlib with literally making a song without programming a beat! Premier and Pete Rock though are both MONSTERS with what they do! Nuff said!
I’ve said my piece on Premo. He’s the best in my opinion. I think LP is amassing and I did a video about him recently. Prince Paul done some amazing stuff too for Stetsasonic, De La Soul and Gravediggaz

Gangstarr - The ? Remainz vs A Tribe Called Quest - Hot Sex. The sample and chops sound exactly the same on these 2 tracks. So who chopped it up? Was it Preem or Qtip...?
I’ve added subtitles to my latest video about Library Music Records. Please could you try it out and let me know if it works. I can then add subtitles to my other videos. Thanks
@LinyeraH2 if you click on custom subtitles you should be able to change the default language to Spanish from there. Please could you let me know if this works? If not, I will see what else I can do. I’m using Davinci Resolve Studio to create the subtitles
Premier Dilla RZA Qtip and throw in marley marl and Pete rock and Dre for good measure and thats the hip hop mount beatsmore. Once you get to their level its splitting hairs. They are all the best ever
I would say though if you had to define the hip hop sound for the whole 50 years its been in existence with one producer - it would have to be DJ Premier

Dilla was super dope at chopping but he’s no longer with us. Madlib is great too. Black Milk does some good stuff but Preemo has been in the game over 30 years and is still releasing seriously amazing music. Just my opinion

For me, Premier, Havoc, and J. Dilla all combined are just masters at sampling.
3 amazing producers right there
