Offroading in Ancient Saudi Arabia, AlUla // Overland Series EP.29
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лют 2025
- We explore the region of Al Ula, Saudi Arabia with our Land Rover Defender and not only learn about ancient Hegra but find an elephant and brain looking rocks next to our campspot in the desert.
After an amazing morning at the volcanoes (check the previous episode, EP28) we go north towards Al Ula. The road itself to get there is stunning. The road is very comfortable and the mountains and cliffs mesmerizing.
In Al Ula we camp wild without any problem and later visit the ancient city of Hegra (Madain Saleh) with the famous “Tomb of Lihyan son of Kuza”. The Nabateans built this city after Petra as they thought it might be better protected than their sister city in Jordan. There are more than 111 tombs here, some of them in a better state than the ones in Petra.
We left the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hegra and headed into the desert again. We got stuck late at night and were too lazy to get us out of the sand so we had to do it in the morning. It took more effort than expected.
We continue doing some epic offroading in the desert and find Baby Elephant Rock and Al Naasla Rock. Some of the engravings here are thousand years old!
Enjoy the ride!

Awesome video. I'm really enjoying the editing style you guys have. Very clean, calm, but you're drawing us in as you tell your story. Could watch your journey endlessly. Amazing and bravo 🙏
Hey Greg, so happy you like what we are doing! There is more exciting stuff to come. Thank you so much!
The star of the show is the Bluelandy. How you combine yourselves and your experiences together with the most beautiful landscape and other experiences makes the viewing of each episode so enjoyable.
What amazing landscapes in Saudi .Those rock carvings just fantastic. And the rock split in two wow!!
Hey Dave, yeah the split rock is one of its kind. I would believe it exists if I didn’t see it with my own eyes
Wow 😍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
the camera work keeps getting better and better. the landscapes are mind blowing! it's good to see the landy perfoming such nice withing those soft sands!
Oh Yeah, it was great in Kingdom but there is a lot of tough terrain to come!
This to be honest is amazing as a college student I don't have the chance to travel all of Saudi Arabia but you guys keep exploring places that I never thought existed thanks for your amazing content and I hope we can meet one day
Hey Ibrahem, thanks for the feedback, it’s great to hear that we managed to inspire a local to travel his own country, this is not easy to achieve 😂
We are reallll suckers for a beautiful desert landscape such as this. Thank you for sharing it brightened up our day! 💛🧡💛🧡
Hey, thank you so much! Glad that you guys like the video! 🙏
@@Thebluelandy yeee 😎!!
Beautiful 😍😍
Thank you
You are truely travelling in an amazing part of Saudi - and my favourite place to be, the desert. The scenery is just out of this world. I am very impressed with your approach to desert travel, being .. .. .. 'where we get stuck, there we sleep' ha ha ha ha ha. I will practice it next I go to the Namib or Kalahari deserts !! Be safe and keep us posted, most enjoyable.
Hey Henry, thank you so much! Yeah when you get stuck late and the car is leveled why not stay and solve the problem another day 😉
I’m afraid to tell you we’ll soon run out of the desert content and it will get greener and muddier 😂
@@Thebluelandy Well u can not have it your way all the time, unfortunately. Safe travels and looking forward to your future experiences ! Best.
Amazing video bro
Thanks 🔥
Welcome to Saudi. First thing we do when we get stock on sand is lowering the tire pressure to 5-10 psi. Then when you get on a clean hard sand, we air the tire up to its normal pressure. The low psi will float the on sand.
Thank you!
Yeah at night we were to lazy to lower tires. That’s why we got stuck. But then I dropped the pressure to get out… 5-10 psi is too low for us. We way roughly 3t and we only have 265/75 tires, on a long journey we need to compromise and can not get super wide tires for sand driving. Pulling one or two tires of a rim, due to ultra low pressure would be a disaster for us. Especially with having no one around. There for sand boards are more work but the safer method. But thanks for the hint!
Some of the areas you traveled looks like Monument Valley in Utah, thanks for sharing.
Hey John, Yeah you are right I thought the same.
Glad you made it out. Driving at 20/18 psi would have been fine even at three tons. I was lazy last year and bogged my 3.4 ton Troopy in a similar way, just metres from solid ground. Never again - took me ages to get out. Thank goodness for Maxtrax and diff locks… You live and learn :)
We always prefer the extra work than going to low and risking getting our tire out of the rim. We think anyways is part of the adventure. Trying to don't get stuck, therefore choosing easier routes, is not our style of travel. It can be stressful sometimes, but we are pretty sure it's going to be a highlight in the end. 😉
De nouveau super !
Thank you Laurent! 😊
Awesome area what a spectacular area of rock formations and beautiful desert scenery . Thanks again for sharing your wonderful journey with us your over landing friends . Cheers from Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A. :):) 🏜🌎👍🏼
Hey Steve, as always thanks for the kind words!
That was a decent sand bog you found yourself in.
Oh yeah, it was the worst so far! really soft sand. Glad we carry sand boards
I am going to visit AlUla soon, are there any transport mediums to get there if I don't drive? Seems hard...
Hey, it’s almost two years since we where there, I remember seeing tour buses so I believe there should be a bus service from Riyadh
🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹☝️
9:00 very unsafe way you adding sand beneath the vehicle, if that jack fail you would hurt your self badly and sadly no reception to call for help... When you get stuck in such situation, you need dig under the belly of your vehicle to gain some clearance, deflate tires to 5-7 psi just to get out than inflate again between 10 to 15 depending of vehicle weight.
Hey thanks for the comment! I know it was not the safest, but I just wanted to get out and didn’t look forward to 30min digging. It worked we were lucky… with more time and less heat I would dig
@@Thebluelandy happy you made it out, its nice video anyway
Lower your tyre pressure in the sand you will never get stuck
22 psi is good
Thanks yeah, In the first half of the trip we where a bit more hesitant with lowering too much
Wow so beautiful Amazing
Thank you so much
All you have to do is make the tire pressure 16 PSI
I’m honestly not sure how low we can go, keep in mind that we weigh 3to, and we do not drive super wide tires. The last thing I want to do is pull one or more tires of the rim. Especially in this place 30 km away from the highway and more than 100 from the next city. I think in the end we dropped the tires to 32-35 psi
@@Thebluelandy 32psi is far to high should down to 22.
Plenty of UA-cam about how to drive on dand
@@rebels181 you are right, but you also need to consider the weight of our car (3 tons). We go to 22 psi in an emergency. The last thing we want is to pull a tyre off the rim...
Why don’t you just stack a couple of washers on the bottom bolts to push the bottom of the wheel out on your spare tire carrier? Should work nicely.
Good point! Nobody came up with that idea until now. Thank you
not deflated enough....
Yeah probably right
Deflate!😂
Deflate! 😅
I blame Western travelers for photographing mountains, medicines, and archaeological sites, but they do not delve deeply into the question of Islamic culture and Arab values and customs.
So when he returns, he will only know a rock he photographed or islands he swam in
It is important to explain why we believe in Islam and why we are different from Westerners in customs and traditions and our concepts of freedoms, equality and rights, and why we forbid alcohol, gambling, usury, adultery, pork, etc.. Have a tourist experience rich in information
Thank you for your comment. I think you are blaming us and generalizing too greatly on your statement. You are jugging our experience by what we show in UA-cam, which is just a platform where we share a glimpse of what we experience. There a lot of experiences and learning we do behind the scenes that are not shown in this platform and never will be. Specially a lot of encounters and conversations are not recorded as we don't want to intimidate or insult anyone, specially those that dedicate time for us. That means that what you get in UA-cam is partial and not the whole picture.
We are also not a channel where we feel we need to educate people. We are happy to share some of the learnings but dont expect us to have the full responsibility of transferring all what we have learnt to others. Our main goal is to inspire people to travel, to discover other places and cultures, to get out themselves. We hope our videos will motivate more people to come and visit Saudi Arabia, and experience first hand what these people and this country has to offer.
