Great bit of film footage of epsom Town in 1975. Pity there wasn't more film of epsom town during 50s 60s ect. Well done the person that filmed a part of epsom history during the 1970s. Excellent.
From August 1985 until 1986, I used to drive the 408 express bus, which ran from Guildford to West Croydon as well as the 406, which ran from Kingston railway station to Tadworth and/or Redhill. Both buses ran through Epsom High street.
I moved to Epsom in 1974 as a child. I can still remember walking around King Shade Walk (by Natwest) with my mother to get something on the day we moved in. I remember all those shops! Shame the film didn't pan along all of the shops along the High Street.
This is great!!....life in Epsom before I was born to the world (and before my time in Epsom.) This footage is great but important locally so it should be distributed for more local people to see. (Perhaps make it available to Bourne Hall museum/library as well as Epsom library??)
That demolition site had been the Odeon cinema. A Sainsburys was built there which was later replaced by something else with a load of "executive" flats built round the back facing the station.
im trying to work this out at 22 secs i thought henleys and godfrey davis were near the station ,i was born at EDH feb 1972 i went to ebbisham first school white horse drive
@@honeymonster5589 1972! I used to live in Ashtead and in 1972, I used to come though Epsom on my way to Carshalton College of Further Education. It was at this time that they demolished the old Odeon Cinema.
I lived in a flat above pet shop in Epsom in 1970, it had lots of market barrows at the back. Would anyone know what part of town this was? , I was 4 at the time.
Probably South Street, before it becomes Dorking Road. All the market barrows were kept in the car park which is now the Ashley Centre which in turn was behind the parade of shops where a pet shop was... might be there
Epsom is fine.... in my 55 years here it went from a market town to part of a rather busy artery from the M25 towards London... far worse places to be....
We used to think that the tall towers which some of the places had were look out towers, built to spot any of the inmates trying to escape. Actually they were water towers, but I shouldn’t wish to drink water that has touched what their contents had been in contact with. Empson’s “Missing Dates” points a finger at what this might be. Convention Holocaust victims rule!

Thats my Epsom¡¡, Court school of dancing, Woolies, Saturday market, 406, 408, 8;15 to Victoria. I left 60years ago,still miss it¡¡

If you watch Talking Pictures TV lookout for a film called '6 Candles' it was filmed in and around the area and shows Epsom in 1960/

I never visited Epsom even though I lived in sutton, though I went to the Downs a few times & Tadworth
