6:43. Hey lived in interior Ak for 4+ decades. Aurora my boar wore a thrift store wool sweater. A friend with many goats used a tunnel type shelter closed on one end with thick straw bedding They did just fine. He had several of these shelters.
I wouldn’t recommend you get a Raptor like Jan but something with all wheel drive would probably work well. You making the right choice by culling some instead of loosing them to the cold.
I enjoy just the daily/regular chores involved with raising goats. It's nice to see them in the pens with all the piles of straw...looks cozy ! Looking forward to April when the kids come ! Happy Farm Life !
When I worked in the UK they were shocked that we even left our cows and horses outside in the winter. I tried to explain they did just fine but they still could not believe it.😮
I love your videos so much, enjoy what you are doing on your farm, and also with the dairy as well. I wish your videos were longer, I know it’s hard when you are doing all the filming yourself, setting up to get good shots, editing, getting your videos ready to upload to UA-cam. I understand everything that goes into it. Maybe you could get your sister or mom to come and help with filming sometimes. But I understand they are busy as well with all their projects. Especially your sister with the new cheese business.
You need to get yourself an F-150 or a Tundra or whatever truck stokes your fancy but soon. What does your new hubby drive? Maybe convince him to buy himself a truck you can borrow sometimes (heh-heh) and upgrade your own hatchback to an AWD SUV model. Glad to hear you're being realistic about culling to suit your business model.
I have shared your channel with my granddaughters that say they hope to be vets when they grow up. They love your channel and appreciate how much you care about your animals health and well being. Cheers from Regina.
Love seeing your life as it unfolds. Garage Goats believe it’s a thing, my niece in Ontario has the same problem yup she has garage goats,no indoor parking for hubby 🤪🤪🤪😂😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️❤️. She too has a old small barn mostly for her wild assortment of crazy chickens, and for indoor kidding when needed 😜😜😜🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
Is it be possible you could put a curtain on the front side of the building to keep the snow and more importantly the wind out. Maybe some round baled would work if you can go 2 high. Just a thought. Stay warm. It looking like cold weather coming here next week.
I had a small Ford and it snow so deep as I was driving down the road I was plowing with it until it overhead because the front end was packed with snow so NO AIR. I HATE THE COLD.
All good your videos. Suggestion for cold weather need to if not already doing a diesel fuel additive everything that runs on diesel fuel an addative that specifically says on the bottle deicer that way your doing everything possible to keep what runs on diesel running not jelling up. In the united states for gas vehicles we use heet , sea foam, best ones to help keep gas from freezing.
What's your main objective of raising goats? Do you sell kids,do you sell goats milk for the cheese business or the goat proteins?? Just curious . Thanks for your videos
I do have a tougher line that I bought here in SK, just wanted to expand more quickly last year so we got more. Kinda bit us in the butt though unfortunately.
20cm of snow .. dangggg that's nasty. I hate when the first ones are so large .. like let's slowly get in to the snow. LOL OLD man winter doesn't always oblige. From Ontario (please DONT send the snow here 🤣)
We did! There are constraints to buying for me though, as I try to buy only from clean tested herds. Last year when we were expanding, I’d bought up one herd that was clean tested in SK, but no one else was testing so I had to outsource from another province. Lesson learnt!
@ for a pup her age she is such a good dog I know it is a working breed that wants to please but walking without a leash and coming at recall is very impressive to me at this age
I refuse to buy a car unless mine in an accident I hate the outrageous prices and I will not pay the interest. I’ll wait till they come down. Cars depreciate so fast. Not good investment a necessity of life.
Love little Rookie zooming around.
Livestock is like plants. you want to have livestock which will thrive
in a Canadian environment. Yes, winter too.
!
Stay safe and warm

Nice video, the goats are very cute. After seeing the snow, I am glad I let Regina years back! 😀
Stay Warm out there.
Love to see Rookie enjoying the snow! She is in dog heaven!!!!
You should close the canopy and give it a small opening

I liked the daylie work around the goats and the work around your farm

goats seem to have a lifestyle way mo complicated than cows
It’s definitely a learning curve, but we’re getting better with them all the time!

When you are milking your goats, Miriam could make some goatscheese as well. Tastes really well.

Nice video
Is there a tougher line of goats that could withstand your winters
I do have a tougher line that I bought here in SK, just wanted to expand more quickly last year so we got more. Kinda bit us in the butt though unfortunately.
What do you do with the goats? Are they for meat or milk?
20cm of snow .. dangggg that's nasty. I hate when the first ones are so large .. like let's slowly get in to the snow. LOL OLD man winter doesn't always oblige. From Ontario (please DONT send the snow here 🤣)
🇨🇦👍
You should find someone who raises goats that can handle any kind of weather conditions no matter where you live
We did! There are constraints to buying for me though, as I try to buy only from clean tested herds. Last year when we were expanding, I’d bought up one herd that was clean tested in SK, but no one else was testing so I had to outsource from another province. Lesson learnt!
Sounds like you need a sheep in winter and goat in summer kind of mix animal?
I have two sheep that I’m going to grow a larger herd with, so I’ll see what happens in the future!
Rooky is so cute and listening so very wel
Do you exercise a lot with her ?
I take her on a lot of walks and she’s got a lot of toys to keep her brain occupied lol.
@ for a pup her age she is such a good dog
I know it is a working breed that wants to please but walking without a leash and coming at recall is very impressive to me at this age
If you cull some goats, will you be getting food out of them or just selling them off?
Not quite sure yet! Might take them to freezer camp if I can get them fat enough.
I refuse to buy a car unless mine in an accident I hate the outrageous prices and I will not pay the interest. I’ll wait till they come down. Cars depreciate so fast. Not good investment a necessity of life.
I can tell u will not raise goats like cows outside here in pa goats do not stay out in the cold and will not do well if they make it
