During Omajinai-Time in Hamburg in summer 2019 Kanami shouted "Katahaba", that means wide shoulders, and I think, that describes very well, how Kobato put a lot of loads on it to keep BAND-MAID running. No wonder that she often has a stiff body and has to do some workout.
Actually, three grown women and one female half-human half gorilla. Good effort for a mere “small pigeon.”

Band Maid really surprised me when I first heard them. Every last member is ridiculously talented. I admit they are my favorite modern rock band.

The only modern band I listen to. And about the only music videos I watch (mostly I just watch concert footage/documentaries of other bands).
Miku is such AMAZING PERSON! Full of life, full of energy! I pray that these ladies remain in good health and that they stay together as a band! They have only been around for 5 years, yet, the have absolutely produced the most amazing music I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE! When I first heard the Beatles in 1964, I was excited like I have never been since listening to rock and roll! Then one month ago, I “STUMBLE” across my first UA-cam video of BAND-MAID which was Dice”! OMG!!! I thought I was having an “out-of-body” experience! I could not believe their METEORIC TALENT! I cannot think of another band in my lifetime that is as good as these 5 ladies! They are proving to the world along with every Hard Rock fan that they do indeed want to achieve “WORLD DOMINATION”! And I couldn’t be HAPPIER!!!!! BAND-MAID FOREVER!!!!!
Them, LoveBites and OF COURSE, BABYMETAL. 3 of the best metal bands on Earth. And they're all tiny Japanese women lol. They're just destroying every other band.
I had a very similar reaction to yours. I'm a bit younger, born in '63, but the first video I saw -- going down that UA-cam rabbit hole, was "Thrill." I could not believe what I was seeing and hearing. I literally said out loud to no one but myself -- Are you fucking serious? Are you fucking serious?! Are these girls for real? -- well, that was one night in mid 2017, I think. I was instantly hooked. I also saw the videos for Real Existence and Don't let me Down right after that. yes, these girls are for real and they aren't fooling. I have not been this excited about a band in at least 20-25 years. I could care less that most of their lyrics are in a strange language that I don't understand, they are simply amazing! Got to meet them in person at the preshow meet and greet in LA 10-1-19 and they could not have been nicer or more fun. Their live show was incredible and high energy. Mioku is unstoppable! Can't wait til this Covid thing is under control so our Girls can feel safe to travel and come play for all of again. And again and again, po!

Maybe she's just a little fried/homesick, then again, she's probably heard that description about a thousand times. -There's even a moment there 5:25 , where she's looking up and off to the side, and it's almost like she's trying to picture herself standing on a deserted tropical beach, but, no matter how hard she tries, she can't quite hear the seagulls. So, reluctantly, she returns. 5:30 -Annnnd, she's back.
She always looks like this on the interviews. The other girls are smiling, nodding their heads and she always just stands there with a forlorn look on her face. I had read something about her bad teeth but didn't notice it when she was singing but they are pretty bad. Can't somebody afford an orthodontist. These girls should be filthy rich, they are the best band in the world.
Yeah, Saiki is a bitch and she doesn't shy away from it. Before i started listening to interviews i always had a feeling that she was one but when she insulted Kanami in an interview by calling her "simple" and the rest of the band jumped to Kanami's defense, Saiki had to save face and compliment Kanami. Since then i just enjoy looking and listening to Saiki but couldn't care less about her besides that. Kanami is to be revered, that is all.
In Japan , Her teeth are sexy . .... I have heard that anyway .

Kanami is freakin adorable, its like she is always in her own pace taking one step at a time and towards the end even when everyone else starts to relax, she just remains standing by the side with that silly smile of hers...

they mention the gap between their look and their sound but I'd say there's an even bigger gap between their presence in interviews and their presence onstage - make no mistake, these women are BADASS!!

These women have no idea how much talent they have.
I think they do know. Miku knows she has a great guitarist in Kanami as her teacher. And Kanami knows that she can write the songs as fast as lightning and Akane can still crush the beat. And she knows what Misa, Miku and Saiki can do.
Of course, it’s not all down to talent. They have all worked tremendously hard, and their teamwork is wonderful.

Saiki looks like she's trying to imagine she's someplace else, especially when Miku starts talking about the "maid cafe" theme of the group. I also notice that Akane and Misu start to dissociate as well....😊 Miku even says "the rest...don't give a sh*t..." At least she is aware...😆
Miku really fit being a leader and MC 🤣 she's really talkative in an entertaining way, well she did have the experience.
They are simply BEAUTIFUL!!! From inside-out; the talent and expression; Kanami and Akane got some special beauty, at least as I see them. LONG LIVE HARD METAL ROCK!!! LONG LIVE BAND-MAID!!!
This was so funny to watch. I couldn't stop laughing at Saiki. She seemed to be so bored and was not interested in what Miku was talking about. "It is a country of watches" and "We climbed up a mountain" she's just too funny in this despite looking bored.
She looks tired. Probably just using this as an opportunity to zone out for 10 minutes. Fair enough, they all work really hard.
The best rock band in the world today bar none. Amazing and no one else is even close. Not since GNR and Appetite for Destruction. Kudos ladies.
I hope they never lose a member because this band works perfectly.

^ this and exactly this. And it's not just this interview. It's the same for a solid year of interviews at least. Either Miku and Saiki are playing an intentional "kawaii-cop/bad-cop" routine in interviews, or at least Saiki realizes that the whole Maid schtick is not actually what makes this band important, especially to international fans. What's impressing people overseas is that they're serious musicians who are making great music -- but with this weird Maid gimmick. That gimmick does more to distance them from western audiences than to bring them closer. In fact, just imagine what an exciting event it would be if Band-Maid, just once, all did a live show dressed however the hell they wanted as individual performers -- without the restriction of the planned Maid aesthetic. #SaveSaiki from that maid outfit.
Without Miku and her idea of doing it this way. Creating this interest and Aura around this band. None of them would have been discovered in the first place. So let's give the little pigeon a break and the proper respect she deserves ! No Miku, no Band Maid. Therefore no great music !
Actually the maid thing is how I discovered them. Most people here in the west that I've talked to about metal and hard rock know of band maid. I know there are other all female metal and rock bands in japan but don't know them as well as band maid.
It's pretty much band maid or baby metal and everyone else is a haze.
@@egolayer13 Saiki and MISO have already kind of done their own thing with the costumes. I wouldn't call those maid uniforms. I do think the maid outfits days are numbered. I expect these girls will be around for decades. I think they'll eventually grow out of the outfits just like Kiss grew out of the makeup... and then back into the makeup. So maybe they'll go back to the outfits when they hit their late 40s.

I was at the bandmaid concert at the Melkweg in Amsterdam. These girls play with live perfection even life.
according to the subs Saiki said "I am the vocalist, Saiki" but her face shows "I want to go home".
I love how powerful and commanding sail is on stage, but so quiet and shy in real life. It's so interesting seeing people in bands being their selves when not performing

This interview though misa looks more sober than saiki which is usually the reverse lol.

@@jeremycline9542 cause of the fact that people used to call her pigeon girl (kukuroppo) because of her hyper personality so she stated putting -po at the end as a way to acknowledge that nickname or play on it

It's their personality lol. They don't pretend those. For some reason some people usually get the wrong idea of them faking it for the band when it's not. Misa and Saiki are the quietest ones usually or kinda serious/distant.
I remember them stating that their public (as in "stage/interview") persona is a 10x amplified version of their personality;
my interpretation of this is that it's the amplified version of their public persona (see "tatemae" over "honne"), for a specific example, for the very limited exposition we get to Saiki's public attitude even when out of stage character is that she tends to approach her surroundings with a bit of detachment, and take her time to carefully evaluate the environment; it's not different by any of us really, we chose our way to present (or to not present) ourselves to other people and navigate through our everyday experiences. What's their "honne", nobody can say and this is - in my opinion - it's way better if it stays this way, both for them - and for us.
For example, I'm sure there must be moments they are tired of all of this - and maybe they can have a differing opinion or taste or their unpleasant moment, because it's effin normal to have them being - you know - normally functioning human beings; but for some reason some individuals among fans cannot accept it and would get hurt - for someone else being human in addition of having a job and a passion - a reason I cannot really understand.

@@hlb979 your description of saiki's off stage/non interview persona sounds like a David Attenborough description of an animal in its natural habitat lol "and here we have the rare species of singer called saiki, when exploring her turf she can be very cautious not to alert predators to her location" lol
But as they've said in countless interviews they only "exaggerate" their personality in public but they don't actually put on a character like real maids in maid cafes do, the band's only gimmick is they wear maid outfits on stage while playing heavy rock music since it's unique and unexpected to fans of their genre.
In saying that miku-po probably puts on her weird speech pattern to add to her naturally cute and playful personality but other than that they don't fake it.

The difference between Kobato Miku and Saiki shoulder width is intense.
The difference in talent is even more.
Miku's shoulders and back remind me of Armmy (gacharic spin) but with longer legs.
The two undisputed facts are Band Maid are amazing and I have a huge crush on Miku. Misa is hot too.
When they are off camera the quintet probably yuck it up, even MISA and Saiki. The end of the segment clued me into this.
The other four probably let Miku speak for them because they either all want to get something to eat, drink or get back to the studio. She is very very good at communicating with people, especially in character. Every band or family has at least one odd character in it to keep them all loose so they can all have fun.
When you are as good as they are, sometimes you have to go through the BS and the faster it is over with the faster they can get back to work making some more of their great music.
Plus, I think people should stop speculating about things we know nothing about and just enjoy what they do.
You're right about Miku. Even when the others are staying in character, Miku usually makes it very difficult to maintain your composure. There's an interview where she nearly made Saiki crack.

These young women are very good. Do the Japanese have a rock hall of fame like we have here in the states? If so they are destined for it. I agree with the commenter in his hope they stay togeather as a group. They all seem to like each other. That keeps down jealousy. That has caused some groups to break up.

Misa just became my favorite with that Smashing Pumpkins drop.
Only watching this u would never think that when they're in their element, onstage, they turn into literal rock starts just enjoying themselves doing what they love. Imagine how many interviewers were caught off guard finding such introvert crowd lol He kept extending the mic to the others but just Miku and Saiki, a bit, were engaging. Poor Miku always kept asking and looking the others but had to take that one for the team.
