Uhm..Gina has been spending alot of time with Ricky this whole summer and even made him jealous on purpose during het duet with Ricky. Just because miss "dont get me started" was mad at him. Ej even asked Gina how she felt about Ricky showing up in 3x02 and she just brushed it off and turned to another subject. So I dont blame Ej at all for getting jealous of Ricky and Gina's relationship. Gina had the nerves to get all jealous of Ej hanging out with Valerie as if they arent aloud to be friends or something. So if Gina is aloud to jealous and question Ej's relationship with Valerie. Why cant Ej do the same with Ricky and Gina. At leats Ej and Valerie havent been flirting with each other behind Gina's back. Not to mentiom Ej has been under alot of stress this season with directing the show that he didnt even wanted to do in the first place. It's not only Gina's feelings that matter here. Just because she is the female in the fucking relationship. She should look at Ej'd point of view instead of only thinking about herself and what she wants during her summer. Also you guys love to put all the blame on only Ej and act like Gina hasnt done anything wrong in the relationship just because she is the female and you all's favorite character
Gina could kiss Ricky while dating Ej and you all would still defend her ass for it
@@Kenyagirly she literally stated did not want maybes but yes. The entire season Ej kept telling her maybes, did not communicate what he was feeling or what was going on. She kept reaching out to him, but he did not. I can understand why she broke up with him because I can see her feeling like she is putting in work for the relationship and Ej was not reciprocating. She literally stated that she did not want maybes which Ej kept telling her and wanted to hear Yes. This was solidified in her speech to Ricky. I do not ship anyone yet I was able to get what was going n in the season and why the relationship ended

If people truly think this is emotional cheating, then they clearly haven’t been watching the show. No one came in between EJ and Gina except for each other. Emotionally cheating would be Betty and Archie from Riverdale. People like to throw words around without thinking critically.
EJ needed someone to be there for him too. He had a lot on his plate that he didnt ask for or want. He wanted to make people proud, wanted to direct the musical well for his dad and for Gina, and to prove to his dad he knows what he's doing so that he could stay. He had the best development, even surpassing gina, and the greatest journey out of the characters, especially in season 2. We Learn he's caring and sweet, and is pressured by his dad. We learn he's misunderstood and is always trying to do the right thing, even when he fails. Making him the bad guy in s3 is like backpedaling it all, and like they wanted a quick and easy way out, an easy way to end the gina-ej relationship.
It's funny that Sofia says that Ricky was there for gina in s3 when that was never the case in the other seasons. Gina wanted ricky, but he was focused on nini and never gave gina a shot to be something more. Contrary to what Rina shippers say, Ricky was not interested in gina in seasons 1 or 2 romantically. He genuinely loved Nina, and was interested in gina a little in s1 cuz they could relate to each other. He came to gina whenever he wanted to rant and vent.
When gina realized that he was never going to be there for her besides to vent, she moved on and got over him. What she found in Ej was something that was lacking in Ricky. Ej genuinely cared and loved her, and continuously showed it through small but significant actions. He put her in front of himself and made her feel listened to and heard through and through. Like when he asked how she was feeling and how she got surprised, he didn't help her or do those things for her out of convenience, but because he just cared and loved her. He had always been there for Gina. Season 2 proved how great of a guy ej was, and they backtracked so hard to make Rina happen and idk, it feels wrong.
Portwell had a great dynamic as friends and lovers and it seems so disappointing that all their growth and their love story just ends because the writers couldn't think of a more creative storyline with Ricky. He wanted independence and a fresh start (which is why he got together with Lily and sang Finally free), but I think he needs to focus on himself and his problems without getting another girl involved.
Gina deserves a better guy than Ricky, who never chose her first and then suddenly liked her in s3 when we literally never really saw them interact as just friends between s2 and 3, which would have given their dynamic more substance and traction. The writers rushed with Rina and didn't let portwell shine like they should have.
Ej deserves better because he was painted like a bad guy in s3 just as a cop out for ending portwell. Gina was the only one to give him a chance in s2 and told him he was a great guy, that he always tried to do the right thing even when he failed. She saw the good in him when even he didn't, and yet also accepted that he has his faults too. He wasn't looking to be dating again, and he understood that his break up with nini would help him grow. They deserved each other, and ej is the best. But everything back pedaled in s3 and it's really disappointing. It's so stupid that he lost both of his love interests to the same guy within a year. He deserves his happy ending.
And with the portwell ship being the front and center ship for s2, all their growth and development and their slow burn and their most developing and humanizing scenes are with each other. They genuinely loved each other so it seems stupid that Ricky would just be there and end it. I don't believe that gina never liked ej and that it was "always ricky". If anyone watched s2, they'd see the connection gina and ej had. The writers are dumb for trying to build a beautiful relationship that took its time to really flesh out and develop, just to tear it down.
Gina would’ve been there for him, if he’d let her in. He kept secrets, and he lied. He didn’t ask for the help he needed, he didn’t try to confide in her, he wanted to fix everything himself and he just couldn’t, but he never asked for help. And Ricky was there for Gina in season 1, he cared about her. And in season two even though he was dating nini and that hurt her he was still there for her, you can see that especially in the Valentine’s Day episode

@@katielakes1113I think that you make a lot of good points but:
-Ricky and Gina friendship was clearly shown in season 1 (a lot of background moments thag a lot of channels have discussed and analyzed)
- He was there for her on Valentine’s Day, and I think him not being there for her showed that he knew that there was a romantic connection between them, but that he needed to respect Nini
- EJ has a habit of finding girls who are heartbroken and then becoming their Prince Charming, this is due to the inadequacy felt from his dad. He pursued Gina because he liked her, yes, but he never really saw her. And I think that matters more. Throughout season 3, it showed that him and Gina are very different. They tend to have different goals (EJ is future oriented and wants to prove something) and Gina (feels like she has to prove something but wants to live in the present, very similar to Gabrielle from HSM, in my opinion). I think the added pressure of him going to college and her still being in high school created a lot of friction in their relationship. EJ wants to be his best self (which isn’t healthy) and I think Hina relates to it, but throughout S3, she actively is taught that herself is good enough (no one wanted Gina.1/mean Gina, but she gets the lead in the musical because she can be nice and competitive (balance), she gets to goof-off and the world doesn’t implode, and she finally can make roots with people). Overall she broke up with EJ because he lied and didn’t confide in her (like he did with Nini, something Gina remarks, and because she can’t be herself around him.
- regardless if you think Ricky had no romantic feelings for Gina in the past, they literally gave a musical score (Rina cue) since season 1, so it seems the writers took them pretty seriously romantically. I think to say that despite what Rina fans say because you don’t see it is dismissing Gina and Ricky because you like him more with Nini. To say she deserves better than a guy who doesn’t put her first, even though he literally started the journey to be with his ex, so it makes sense he wouldn’t put her first is immature. Life is hard and weird, and it’s about the journey (s4 song- “maybe this time”explains it well). I think that Ricky loved Nini for many reasons (stability, proving that he can be all in, just love, childhood bestie), and he needed that love and experience to be the guy who can be with Gina. I think if you watch the show and see Ricky and Gina as the star crossed lovers they are (again, Rina cue says it all), you would see that the situaron has a lot more nuance than he didn’t choose her first. And I think EJ is a great character, but it had barely been a year since Nini dumped him, it made sense that he didn’t realize it was him, not his secrets, thag caused friction in his relationships. Gina was an amazing foil for him and as we see in S4, he has grown! His character arc didn’t end in S3, it just was repeated to reinforce that he hadn’t learned his lesson. And that’s how most people are in life, they think they’ve grown but they just ignored their problems through another relationship. EJ literally says in S2, it was his first single valentines! This man is a serial dater and needed the wake-up call he got in S3. And him and Gina had no chemistry. They never were open, hid things from one another, and were so mean. Similar to Rini for me, except their toxic behaviors were worst and sadder.
I think it’s easy to see what we want to see when we like couples. I was a a Rina shopper S1, and even throughout the show but was cool with Ej/Gina and Rini, because I was invested in the plot and wherever it would go. Implying that Rina just happened because of S4, when I mostly see Rina love only after S4 aired is baseless and blind. It was always there, just like Gina said, she was always there. And sometimes love isn’t about the past or the sweet things you say to your partner, it just happens.
@@VyctoriaBrooks yeah I agree I’ve shipped rina since the start of the series and I think their feelings for each other had always been there it’s just that because of the circumstances they were snuffed out. Like in season one when Gina comes back at the end and Ricky says like “I can’t believe she’s back, but I’m not the same person I used to be” or something like that he definitely did like her and was interested in her but he was in love with Nini. Portwell was kind of a mess but at the end of the day Gina and EJ did like each other but on Gina’s side I also think she was just trying to push Ricky out of her mind and so she tried to move on with EJ. And then I think all of that culminated in season three when Ricky did like her again but purposefully took a step back because he knew she was happy with EJ which showed so much growth and maturity since season one when he was just jacking up everything between EJ and Nini. he wasn’t trying to step on the relationship and so I think that them getting together meant even more to him because he was able to come to terms with the fact that she might not have wanted him, not only cause she was dating someone, but because he legitimately broke her heart and he knew that

She was not emotionally cheating with Ricky. She even got Ricky to help her create a romantic moment with Ej. She kept trying to make efforts to spend time with him. He did not.

@@aperson2335 She was emotionally cheating on him because while she was in an relationship with Ej she hung out with Ricky a lot more than she did with Ej. Also before the Ricky and Gina kiss, she saw how heartbroken he was but still decided to kiss Ricky. I just felt it was all rushed.
