No just guitar album. This is only good album, i like this kinda albums, but album isn't perfect, like none albums isn't perfect, althought people say that way, it's bullshit.
20 years ago, I listened this album over and over again while I was reading three Lord of The Rings books. So now , each time I listen this album, I feel like I am in Middle Earth :)
I really like Pasi's voice and for me this is one of the greatest albums ever. I like in the late 90's and I like it now. For me the four albums with Pasi are their greatest stuff. Maybe new Amorphis is ok too but Pasi's vocals.... Nostalgia hahaha
Yes indeed I'm in the same Page with you man..in my opinion too Amorphis Albums with Pasi are just incredible and unbelievable mark signs of Finnish pioneeri such as like Sentenced Down & Frozen because Amorphis & Sentenced of the same period of late nineties magnificant albums of Finnish Melodic Metal Music!!!🤟🤟🤟🎼🎶🎶🎵 Truly a masterpiece of Art
20 years today! What a great album, a timeless masterpiece by Amorphis. This album starts with a showcase of power, goes through as a strong entirety, presents those sweet Phrygian spices and finally the closing song shatters my heart to pieces that I can collect throughout the autumn and winter...until it's summer again.
Some 7 years before the release of this album, Holopainen had a dream for Amorphis to become a band with a sound and style of their own...you can hear how they succeeded very well, both by the time of this album and all the way until today! They were one of the very first bands of the death metal genre in Finland, but they became so much more, an institution of diversity and progression that has lasted for 30 years and counting...
One of the best albums, even today a very well aged album. For me, Amorphis with Pasi are the real Amorphis, no matter how good an undoubtedly good Tomi Joutsen may be. Pasi is the voice and face of the best Amorphis era and Amorphis had its own dynamic back then and you can still feel that here. The new albums are good, but they don't have that typical feeling that Amorphis always used to be.
As a music lover, specifically melodic death metal, this is one of the best pop/rock/stoner albums I have ever heard. In my honest opinion, I consider the full album a masterpiece, under this genre. Unlike other mainstream bands (e.g. Metallica, which unfortunately is my favourite band ever), these guys were brave enough to make a full album outside of their comfort zone, without losing their identity....and they were flawless. The melody and harmony are amazing, and technically they are huge, as usual! The vocals....well....if you are a blinded death metal consumer, then you will hate it, for sure. If this album was released by a band under a name starting with "The...." (anything, all the bands starting with "The" become famous...why? Don't ask me...) it would be widely recognised by the entire music industry, not only the metal niche. Best regards to all music lovers!
@Adrijana Radosevic Thank you for your considerations. When i mentioned Metallica, i was speaking about a banda that once was perfect and then sold their souls to the big masses, unlike amorphis. When i mentioned banda starting with "The" i was mainly speaking about pop/rock bands form the UK with huge sucess (e.g. "the Strokes"), which on my opinion are a reflex of todays lack of taste for good músic. Imagine this álbum, tuonela, beinf released by such a band...
"Melodic death metal" is not death metal. No complex/polyrhythmic patterns, no jazzish-silly guitarwork, and most of all, all of the lyrics are about battles, Valhalla, trolls and cold Nordic shit. Only the growling vocal style is the same growl/grunt type as in the case most death metal bands. Death metal revolves around DEATH - not shitty Nordic cartoon-gods. Melodic "death metal" is basically good old British-type heavy metal (like Iron Maiden), only with singers growling because they can't sing :)
Ænigmakil X Anathema have never betrayed at all. They have always kept some of their sound in their music. They're not for everyone and same with Amorphis. Both bands have many different sounding albums throughout their amazing years and thats a good thing because first things first they do it for themselves.
I have had this album since it came out and it's a must to play at Summer's End. I was 32 when it came out and I'm almost 58 this year and will say it's one of the most solid albums of all time...
Incredibly excellent material! He underestimated, not reaching the peak he deserved. Every song is crafted and perfect! Fantastic creation, my favorite for 20 years ...
Fan of this album since the beginning, half of my life...In the last days of July, the full moon rising upon the dark southeastern sky reminds me once again of the Summer's End...
I got this album randomly through columbia house and at first was on the fence but songs like The Way bring a certain nostalgia its crazy. Listening now I can appreciate it more. Great album

Tales from the thousand lakes is sucks crap doom metal, i hate miserable doom, death metal is a lot understandable, Tales album is very overrated. This is the best album, only some underrated, this isn't complitely doom metal, only some those elements, progressive stoner metal this is. I had Tales album but never like it that crap.

I randomely grabbed this album at the used CD store back in the early 2000's because it looked cool. When I listened to it the first time I was slayed. I grew up on brit prog and metal and I heard the fusion of those 2 in this amazing album. My first thought was this was a new version of Nektar . (check out this epic Nektar album "Remember the Future" especially the second half and you will see why I thought this. ua-cam.com/video/Q3YcB28lq1E/v-deo.html ) They both take you on these cosmic journeys of the mind with that flowy music. 2023 and it still stands!
Always. Even in 1000 years !
Almost as good as Elegy.
@@ЕвгенийАнтонов-ы2у nah, The Tales are way better, ever being listened to
Listening im 2023. Missing Pasi Koskinen, a great and singular frontman
Yeah I never got on with that new dude..never bothered to learn his name.
Saw him on the Am Universum tour, great frontman
Tales, Elegy and Tuonela are my favourite Amorphis albums.
Ditto... 👍
Yepp, absolutely. Personally this is my no.1, the other two share the second place.
Karelian as well.
I think the albums with Tomi Joutsen are the best. My personal fav is Skyforger.
Exactly , but for my taste The Best is this one !
happy new year 2024 in Philippines 🇵🇭, I'm listening now!!!

2023 and i still enjoy this album.

Every song on this album is very good with Divinity on top of it which brings on pure nostalgia! Hail Amorphis from Greece!
pure nostalgia ...good years
The Tuonela > Greed > Divinity sequence of this album is up there with the best stretches of any album I've ever heard. 14 minutes of perfection.
Coincido, es un alucinógeno sónico esa trilogía. Impresionante... El comienzo de Greed es oro puro.

After 18 years, still dont get old nor forgotten, thanks to Respectable Owners.
Haven't listen to anything from Amorphis for years but this album still a piece of art.
a beautiful masterpiece!
Когда слушаю этот альбом, от него такое тепло исходит, как будто сидишь один в снежном, холодном лесу и греешься у костра..

The Way-best song ever.
TUONELA MY FAVORITE ALBUM.
The Way... still love that song like the first day I heard it. One of their very best songs ever.
Este disco es tremenda joya junto con sus discos Death Metal 🔥
Wish they re-recorded the whole album with Tomi on vocals...it would be 10 times even better!
Summer's End top Amorphis song, by far the best track here
Their best. Period.
IMO, both the old and new Amorphis sound awesome. No reason to not love them both.
True
That’s what I say haha life is too short to not like both sounds

Great band, great album! So, many music and harmony!
Saw them live back in the day when Pasi was still on vox. Epic show.
Masterpiece of the late 90's!!!
Simplesmente uma obra prima, na minha opinião, melhor album Doom da finlândia.
heard it in 2005, 12 years apart this album seems even better, great music!
Yes,same to me...great stoner sound from them..
Underrated album
oh come on. it's widely regarded as a masterpiece of the genre
what else would you expect? an airplay on mtv?
"widely regarded" as it may be... this video possesses a little over 30k views.
Hardly. It was a major disappointment after their previous 2 albums.
Personally, no other Amorphis album will reach the level of Elegy.
Underrated? i have a copy =)
There is so much atmosphere on this album. Whenever I hear Summer's End I feel like I'm right there with the woman cutting the berries down
Hahaha, exactly My Friend. I love this album since I was a teenager. Now I am at my 30s.

El último día trae la gracia
Para los portadores del nombre prohibido
Entra en la maza quíntuple
Como hijo como padre en un marco
Algún día el fuego secará la lluvia
Los miedos son lágrimas congeladas susurran
Cosas que nadie oye
Llora ahora, llora ahora por mí otra vez
El orgullo y el dolor del mañana
Por qué te arrodillas ante mi nombre
Aplastando mi creencia
Y dale forma a mi alivio
Para quién estableces tus oraciones
De todos modos, no puedo escucharlas
Algún día el fuego secará la lluvia
Los miedos son lágrimas congeladas susurran
Cosas que nadie oye
Llora ahora, llora ahora por mí otra vez
El orgullo y el dolor del mañana
Por qué te arrodillas ante mi nombre
