To all who have responded to this album, I salute you all!! Especially those of you of my generation, who had this in their disc player in 1996. It is a wonderful thing, the metal community, who have never met each other, but have that same connection. Nobody will ever know what it feels like to have that bond like the metal brothers and sisters of my generation. Stand tall and know that no matter what life brings, this community stands together in solidarity! Hail to you all!!!!
I haven't listened to this album in decades. I'd forgotten how much I love it. I purchased Karellian Isthmus, 1,000 lakes, Elegy and Tunella within a few days of their release dates. I still have the CD's in a box filled with thousands of CD's in my storage loft. 😅
Hail to you, my metal bro!!
1996. I'm 16. What the wonderful time🤘 Metal forever in our hearts! Great times !
No Perkele
greetings from Belarus. I heard the album in 1997 and it is forever in my heart
Привет фром РБ😊
It was the year 1996 and my first ever summer festival in Nummirock, Finland. I was there with my friend and my also first ever girlfriend. We had so great time there with Deep Purple, Sepultura, Amorphis... At one point I noticed a spoiled c-cassette on the ground when wandering around that huge area. I picked it up(as an old hoarder 🙄) and read: Amorphis Elegy. When I was back home I meticulously rolled the out-ripped tape and placed it into firm frame. And it sounded so great💜🇫🇮 Later in my life I made friends with Pasi 'Öhe' Koskinen (doing clean vocs here ) when he played and sang in Ajattara. After all this our country Finland is small and packed with great music and artists...
Sounds like good memories:)
Not a single weak track. A perfect follow-up to Tales - which is a perfect album in its own right. 90s-era Amorphis rules.
90s era and early 2000 was the best metal era
AMORPHIS YEAHHH
this album is probably 1000 times better than lakes.
@@guardianigorOr even NOT.
There's no 90's without Amorphis - Elegy
one of the best album in the 90 's, miss this times
Today's music is all about being active on social media. This wasn't the fact in the late 90's and early 00's. That's what made this music so fucking good.
I just turned 62 years old and wanted to hear something special.... So now my whole neighborhood and I will listen to this album in its entirety. 🥰👍👍
The best album of AMORPHIS, and one of the best of Progressive Metal.
Да нифига он не лучший, откуда такие восторги.
This is the album where they went to shit.
@@elchicharron9503nope
Лучший для тех, кому больше нравится "прогрессивный" Аморфис, чем дэз-думный. Лично я где-то посредине между ними, поэтому Элегия мне тоже очень нравится, но конечно без внеземных восторгов:))
Revolutionary for it's time. "Karelian-Tales-Elegy" was their catalyst for metamorphic transformation. Love this era of Amorphis!!
I agree with you 100%
Yeah
100%
bought when i was 19, now i'm 44 and remember this album like a charm, great album and i still have my cd copy!great amorphis :D
Some of my faves are from this album....On Rich and Poor and Against Windows are on my workout Playlist !
Man I love this band!!
Same here, bought it when I was 19 or 20. Here I am at 45, I was just recommending this album and Tuonela to my 25 year old employee.
I was 16, in 1996, and this album played its part with Morningrise, Irreligious, The gallery, Draconian Times (Opeth, Moonspell, Dar Tranquillity, Paradise Lost). Great years, great memories never forgotten. These albums still play, still give emotions. Still talk!
1996 - 1977 = 19. so yes i was 19 at the time too, but my first encounter with the band was in late 1992 with The Karelian Isthmus. 1992 was a great year for metal
@@muncialda3586 Same here! I was 25 when this came out, and that was the year my life's playlist was exactly those bands you mentioned! Elegy (Amorphis), Draconian Times (Paradise Lost), Wolfheart (Moonspell), and even 1993's Turn Loose the Swans (My Dying Bride) were constantly in my CD player! 1996 marked a very bad and depressing year for me, and these albums got me through some very rough times! Even though it was not a good year for me, every time I listen to these albums today, it reminds me not of the hard times I had, but how I had the will to overcome the hardships and moved on to better things!!! These bands were my saviors!
must have listened to this album a 1000 times back in the day, and realize now it stood the test of time. classic timeless masterpiece
My all-time favorite Amorphis release! Timeless beauty in every song, I will go to my grave with this in my soul.
Truly a moment in metal.
Amazing album.. Amorphis is one of the bands that made growling the most emotional thing in the world
It was a beautiful thing, wasn't it?!?!
Dont forget theatre of tragedy
Also crematory
25 Years of Elegy! Surely the most psychedelic metal album I've heard!
10/10
MASTERPIECE
2 out of 7 by me...
Definitely Swordy! Class album from start to finish
6/10
11/10 PERIOD
@@formatcforcortex2465 try britney spears...
This album is so mesmerizing, it is a real masterpiece.
Aaaahhhh... this brought back memories of the time I had difficulties sleeping because the songs of this album would play on infinite loop in my head... Amorphis are unique.
The whole album is a masterpiece. When I got it, I loved it from first spin.
amorhpis...i was listening morbid angel and then six feet under and then this came up.i havent heard it over 20 years years...memories when i was 16...good album
my favourite album during my darkest days
Josssss Gandosssss yeaaaahhhhhhh
Exactly half my life ago, and I remember like it was yesterday.
Life is short.
Too true!
I feel u bro!
Mine too, same feeling about this music. Half lifetime and the music feels like I´m just 16.
I used to spend summer holidays with my brother back in the late 1990s. We stayed at our grandma up in the attic - a little cosy room with a cassette player. Guess what I discovered there... You are right. If you ask me about a perfect holiday of a lifetime, it'll surely be the same attic 20 years later, LSD, and the very same cassette that I still cherish until this day.
TRUE MASTERPIECE.
This and my kantelle will always be pertinent. Written in stone, yet this music must roam.
I remember listening to this 20+ years ago It was an incredible time in metal history. The cassette tape that plugged into my discman in my van was high tech.
Dude '95 was the dark ages. Priest, Maiden, Sabbath and many more broken up, 'tullica and Megadeth going down the shitter... Clawfinger, Dog Eat Dog and Faith no More on Magazine covers. Ew.
There were some bands coming up under the radar though like Nevermore, Opeth and the whole Black Metal Scene...
This is Amorphis best album..Kanteletar.
How i love that organ solo in Elegy!!! So refreshing!
One of the best trips of my life... Thanks for existing AMORPHIS...
A collection of excellent track. Not a single filler. True magic.
Such great use of the double harmonic Major scale on the first track.
This is a magic album, my favorite, unique, unlike anything else, thanks for that, gentlemen
Wonderful album! Very creative songs, nice melodies, awesome lyrics! This work has an unique styel, combining elements of Death Metal,Melodic Metal,Progressive Rock keyboards, ethnic music,etc..Great band! A classic form the 90`s! 10!!!
My favorite from Amorphis!
Tounela too
My favorite metal album of all time, and that's saying a lot...
This album never dies, loved it at first listen the day it came out and here i am in 2020 still banging air drums to Pekka Kasari´s great percussion work. ( miss covering these songs on drums!)
A classic in the genre!
438 likes is a tragedy, this album (and it's predecessor) is legendary.
Old school never dies...
Better now than back in the day, for me at least... I remember appreciating the band's musicianship, but not being fully won over by this album. Obviously it was me who wasn't ready for this. Now I enjoy every single note of it, masterpiece!
Igual. Para mí Amorphis en la época era Karelian y Tales... No fue sino hasta hace un año que volví a escuchar el Elegy y ahora me encanta. Lo que hace el tiempo......
I feel the exact same way 🥂
For sure a great feeling it is to listen to this and float in memories
Light my fire cover from Amorphis will also always be a classic

Llega el 2021 y yo sigo escuchando desde 1996
I've discovered Amorphis only in 2009, but have been a fan since then. Got to see them live two times. While I think that the new albums are great, no other work from them can surpass Elegy for me.
For me the Tales from the thousand lakes and Elegy are equally the best of Amorphis, I suggest Drowned maid or Into Hiding, my god) I love them from 1995 and they never caused disappointment for me ( Tuonela or Am Universum were the worst but they are good and unique as well). But Tales.. and elegy are flawless
Totally agree with you but i included also the karelian isthmus and tales from a thousand lakes
@@Hedniskhjertad I discovered them in 1994 and for me its Karelian/Tales from..../Elegy. Awesome albums and awesome souvenirs!
Tales and Elegy are my favorites. So epic
For me Amorphis, Tiamat, Samael, Moonspell, Sentenced, Bathory (among others) shaped my worldview when I was a teenager (long time ago :))
Ever since I first heard this record, I knew my life wouldn't be the same anymore. And so it was. This record is one of those to listen to before you die
I enjoy listening to every subgenre of metal and rock music, mainstream and underground bands and i do it for 17 years. I believe that this is the greatest album of all time.
Wowww! An unforgettable album since 1996.I listened very much...master of all amorphis albums.....\m/
Masterpiece....
Top melodic metal album of all time. My first 'unguarded' and self earned holidays with friends at lake. Instant time travel.
Tremendo album el mejor para mi.
Amazing album! Still sounds as good 27 years later 🤘
Masterpiece album. Elegy the song is untouchable.
It is a shame - for the rest of the world - that Amorphis is not better known outside of Finland. This is a truly GREAT band! I've been listening to them in New Orleans since 1998. I've always sought the wise counsel of my Finnish friends when it comes to music......
Well I know them since 1992 and I'm from Mexico still love em but I like em better when Pasi Koskinen was doing the leading vocals
romanian here.
@@roberttrisca8210 Canadian here.....and a long time fan.
I agree ...the Finns know their metal, and do it like no other!!
Indian here
I have just to say you are right greetings from Macedonia original
Wonderful album!
Best Amorphis album
Agreed.
Best is "Tales From The Thousand Lakes". This one is good but it's where Amorphis ended actually. The rest of their music is sugarized soft rock. Sad.
Fill the same way.
when style evolved, it's called "progression"
Ivan Malek Tales is the best for me. Second is this.
The Orphan was my fav song, the best album. Hail from Malaysia 🤟 🇲🇾
First time hearing this album and it keeps surprising me! Good stuff
The only album I never skip a single moment. Each song is extraordinary on it's own, even the acoustic My Kantele has different vibes than the original one. Best album of all times!!
Perfection!
agreed
I barely could see the name "Amorphis-Elegy" on a cassette I found in a shop... What a lucky bastary I am...
Они мастера, это истинно...!!!!!!!
Those where the days 🤟🏻
This album reminds me my teens!
Good memories....
Great album 1996!
Fuuuuuuuuck. After I found this album again after 15 years, I cant stop listening to it. 2 months gone not missing one day.
I had this on c-cassette. And cd. And Vinyl.
conocí esta banda hace una semana y es de las mejores cosas que me pasó en el año
Y en la vida para mi! 🤘🤘
Fantastico! Remeber of my childhood! I listened only this album from Amorphis, this is not my genre of music, but this nordic melodic metal is grintous!

Better it would be for me
And better it would have been
Had I not been born, not grown
Not been brought into the world
Not had to come to this earth
Not been suckled for the world
If I'd died a three-night-old
Been lost in my swaddling hand
I'd have needed but a span of doth
A span more of wood,
But a cubit of goof earth
Two words from the priest
Three verses from the cantor
One clang from the bell
Better it would be for me
And better it would have been
Had I not been born, not grown
Not been brought into the world
Not had to come to this earth
Not been suckled for the world
I'd rather die, I'd rather be better unborn
If I'd died a three-night-old
Been lost in my swaddling hand
I'd have needed but a span of doth
A span more of wood,
But a cubit of goof earth
Two words from the priest
Three verses from the cantor
One clang from the bell
Better it would be for me
And better it would have been
Had I not been born, not grown
Not been brought into the world
Not had to come to this earth
Not been suckled for the world
I'd rather die, I'd rather be better unborn
this was my 1st ever cd I bought from my pocketmoney back in 1996, listening to it just now is so amazing, so many memories are coming back :)
Tales is my fav, but this is my 2nd fav Amorphis album. Its so proggy, i love it. Really also love the My Kantele EP. Circle is my 3rd fav.
Best Amorphis album for me. Hail from Malaysia 🇲🇾🤘
From Tales to Elegy. This is a turning point.
Thank you, brothers
in my top 5 albums of my life...
perfect...
Amorphis Elegy, may actually be the best possibly conceivable elegy I have ever heard in this life so far.
Esse disco marcou minha adolescência, lembro de escuta-lo toda manhã ao acordar. Muito foda!!! Riffs marcantes com melodias inesquecíveis!!! Está entre meu top 10 dos álbuns marcantes!!!
ammazing after all those years I am still amazed
Wow I was 17 years old when this album came up, my mate from school gave me the album
Such a great album!
I listen to it once a year 😊
Haven't listened to this in full for a while. So good, and still amazingly fresh.
I been compiling a playlist on my channel with all metal if you get board check it out may find something you forgot or never heard.
Must be one of the few albmus with no filler track. Masterpiece. Underated band. If they were from USA and didn't use growls they would be famous.
This one is ofc masterp. RIP Petri
Tales from the Thousand Lakes is their masterpiece.
Well...I'm still a fan of what Amorphis is doing, but this is by far my favourite album \m/
Their very best album !! \m/
50:38 My Kantele (Acoustic Reprise) Ради этой песни слушаю альбом
Это шедевр.
The best Amorphis album ever...
На мой взгляд, это лучший альбом Amorphis и самый пик их творчества!
Twoje zdanie sie nie liczy, bolszewiku
This album is life.
I actually dear and love this album. I think it has...... the wildest rhythms and the sickest bass tone .... and dreams....!
Excelente álbum. Wow!!!!
Perfect...masterpiece.
Something about this album tells me not to be greedy and be grateful if we have everything in our humble lives
cool album
Masterpiece!!!
Best uploader on UA-cam.
Awesome!!! ❤
DUDE! F-n kove this album!!! I dont know how it didnt get melted and fused into one with my cd player in my old honda accord back in the day? Still so classic and unduplicable. Thats not a word but I am making it a word now. To bad these guys had to bow to the record industry on their follow up album.
i still have these cd's:)( Tales of a thousand lakes, Elegy)
Everlasting!
amazing album thanx i like it
