The total package: speed with hands and feet, amazing vocabulary, wonderful listener throughout the ensemble, chops that don't stop, and sensitivity to each dynamic change. Larnell, you're the standard by which I now measure drumming. It's been years since I've played seriously, but watching you makes me want to pick up my sticks again. At this stage in my life, I'll never accomplish musically what you have and will yet, but your playing is just inspirational.
Yeah. Larnell os great but could not play Soja songs like Ryan Byrd, play metal like Aquiles priester, or have the sound of Gavin Harrison. Just example by How everyone os unique. But yes, everything he touchs its sound awesome. He play since 2 years old also
I hadn't thought of Art in conjunction with Larnell, but you are right on point. I have several of Art's albums and actually there are similarities, but Larnell is subtler and more dynamic. By that I mean that he actually goes quiet and expressive at times which Art seldom did.
Everything about this is inventive, tasteful, unique to the point of being both melodic and heartwarming. Larnell really raises the level of these instruments to a whole new level. And, btw, that cymbal "hand wah" at 3:15 was pretty freaking awesome. Dang!
I have pulled that trick off at church and I got comments later how that echoed through the room and how tasteful is was! It's a REALLY cool trick haha
Chops are insane, but what I find most impressive is his control on dynamics. This man just knows when to play loud and when to play softly, when to build up and when to let up. Great control. This isn’t just a drummer, this is an absolute musician.
I keep coming back to this masterpiece, the years of experience shown in just one video is absolutely mind blowing. There is drumming and then there is Larnell. I really hope we will get many more interviews from him or podcasts where I can just maybe grasp some of his knowledge and music theory and how his mind functions in this type of enviroment. Keep it up Larnell I hope these nice words reach you someday.
The solo between 5:03 - 6:16 is no doubt one of the most musical drum solos I've ever listened in my entire life. This guy is definitely something else. Amazing!
I've never heard such good drumming... Mr. Lamel I've never heard anything come close to that. There is a point where music isn't music anymore, and is legitimately art. You sir have crossed that line a while ago. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world. Also, on a less serious note, I NEED THAT DRUMSET IT SOUNDS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!
Complexity of this man's playing equals anything I have ever seem. I am 74 years old and I have seen some of the greats of the world of jazz live and this man could hold his own with any of them.
Every time I lose faith or lose inspiration or start to doubt the drums.... I Watch Larnell for 3 minutes. Then I remember. I remember what passion looks like. How beautiful it can be, I remember that if I try hard enough... I might be able to someday steal a chop, just one little chop from this legend. ❤️ You and Gavin Harrison are the top of the mountain for me because of your humble character and genuine passion. Gavin is more the cerebral mad scientist who inspires my drummer mind but you speak to the drummer soul. Giants, both of you. Thanks for being you. 🙏❤️

For a second I couldn't figure out who else was playing a pattern as a second percussionist at the beginning... but then I looked a little closer and witnessed something beautiful *sniff*
Agreed. I knew I was hearing a faint drum pattern, but I didn't realize it was the bass drum until it got louder and louder and I saw the right leg moving more. Then I heard the quadruple 16th's on the bass drum and... "Holy shit" was what I was thinking.
