It's not just how ridiculous his range is, or how good he sounds at both ends of it, but it's the wy he can rise so seemlessly through it, it's stunning & perfection to listen too
Thank you for covering this song. So few reactors as there is no video. I love this cover so much. Have listened to it hundreds of times. Mitch’s voice gives me chills it’s soooo good! Loved your reaction. 💜
Yes, it's Mitch. Mitch has a wide vocal range. I like when he sings in his lower registers. Mitch can change his singing voice to whatever is needed for songs. He changes his speaking voice to match his mood at the time. (Not always high.) I love this Pentatonix version of the song. I like the original too.
I love how Mitch starts that phrase in a low note I that I can’t sing and then ends the phrase in another note I can’t sing at the top end. I’m a mezzo soprano and singing along with Pentatonix has actually improved my range, (these kids kick my ass), but in a million years of trying I will never match Mitch Grassi, and I’m totally ok with that. He’s the king and the queen, always.
The first time I heard this song, I thought for certain that it was Scott who took that first phrase of the chorus. It took me a couple of listens before I picked up on Mitch's unique vocal tone, even in that low of a register. Absolutely blew me away. Mitch has one of the most incredible voices around.
I know, right? Mitch's lower register always blows me away because we hear him in his higher register most of the time. His vocal range spans SIX octaves. It's ridiculous how incredible both his range and his voice are. I'm with you - it's always a surprise to hear him sing anything lower than, for example, what he sings in "When the Party's Over". Thanks for posting this - I'd forgotten they'd done a cover of it. This is one of their rare covers that ties with the original - it's just as great in the PTX way, but I can't say I like it better than the original version (like their cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody"). I love it just as much as the original. Now I'm going to go and listen to this about ten times in a row because this is one of my favorite songs from my adolescence. Great reaction video!!
I will forever be mad at them for not releasing a music video for this, it’s one of my favorite covers they’ve ever done. I bugged them for YEEEEARS to do it and when I found out they were doing it I cried I was so excited lmao. I love Take On Me probably more than anyone else in the world haha. I get pumped every time I hear it.
that note always renders me speechless! you wanna get mitch slapped again? check out their christmas under the stars live performance of “carol of the bells.” it’s always christmas with pentatonix lol. mitch literally does not breathe for over a minute. basically the whole song in one breath 😳
I love Mitch's lower register ❤ Still waiting for Anchor, when you can get to it. They use a lot of layers in it, so you get multiple-Mitch slapped in that one. It s such a beautiful and original track from them. It was written by Mitch, too 😊
Glad to see I'm not the only one who had to replay the chorus the first time I heard it, to be sure that was indeed Mitch at the low end. It's not something we hear a lot of, but somehow it doesn't surprise me a whole lot to find out he can go that low - and that well!
WOW! I have been listening to PTX forever and I have never heard Mitch sang that low, what a nice surprise. I know he has a wide vocal range but 1st time hearing him go that low. Would love to hear more of that from Mitch. Love, love, love PTX!!!
I remember the original so well, and the video was amazing. Only once I've heard Mitch sing that low. I was in one of his High School performances. He has a range so much larger than anyone ever expected! I really enjoyed this. Upgrade for sure!
Hello D. This is one of my absolute favourite Pentatonix covers. All the vocals and vocalizations are just so good from all five of them. Sweet start by Mitch on the first verse. Mitch's vocals are perfect in this, from his deep low notes, stealthily climbing up the octaves, to his signature high points. Just perfection. No official music video, but there are live performances of PTX doing this song and they are fun to watch, especially Mitch striding across the stage. Just as much fun to watch is your expression when you realized that Mitch was on that deep low note!! Your expression was priceless!!! Love your reactions. More PTX please -- still lots more to go.
Love love your reactions D...thats why i hear them thru you....yeah hearing mitch with the lower scale was surprizing...take care and thanks again❤❤❤❤❤
I’m old enough! That video was on MTV every hour for about 2 years if I remember correctly (or felt like it was 😛). Loved the original and love the PTX version ❤️
Hi D, thanks for the reaction . Upgrade?, for me just different and equally good, maybe a little better. Yes, remember the group Aha and especially the video for this song. Mitch has also a beautiful lower register, is amazing. Greetings from Germany
I love this song and what Mitch does with it. It's beautiful. His register is 6 octaves. Never hear the bottom part. Thank you for playing this. The original singer went high, I think Mitch went higher. I did look for a video. It was this or the album cover. That was it. I chose this for esthetics.
I absolutely Love Mitch. He rarely sings as we know in his lower register but when he does ❤️😍🥰. When he can sore with the angles where others cannot, why bother to sing in his lower voice is why I think we don’t hear it often. Like you said, Avi, Matt and Scott can sing those parts. That leaves Kirstie alone in the higher end as Kevin is normally beat boxing. To keep the sound full they need that balance of Mitch and her together. At least that’s my thoughts as to why we do not get to enjoy him singing lower very often. I don’t see the following on your list of songs : Your Power sung by Mitch during the pandemic. A real early PTX singing Starship, they also have 2 videos that are get to know you types part one and part 2 that I think you would enjoy watching.
Yes, a reason to listen to this song again 😁 Another validation for my feeling that, although each member of PTX is not of this world and I love them ALL, Mitch is just my favorite. From what I can tell, you haven’t reacted to these 3- all of them Mitch-slaps! Mitch Grassi- Kiss the Air 2009 (16 year old Mitch in a Talent Competition), Mitch’s cover of Your Power and PTX’s See Through (early original audio- only). 🔥🤯👽💜
LOL! This is on Ptx's white Classics album & yes! They ALL have killer ranges! The whole album is awesome. I hope one of your patreon members wil request Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy coz I know you'd love that one!!! It's on that album too. I think there are a few on that album you haven't heard! Surprise!!!
It's definitely Mitch. He can get reasonably into the baritone range. Scott's range is also extremely large..he gets quite high in "one less problem", for example, but can go deep into bass range when needed. Kirsty, Avi, and Matt have generous ranges also, though maybe a few tones less than Mitch and Scott. Kevin has a beautiful voice now that it's trained, but its range (he's a tenor) is about normal for a trained human...probably because he practices singing less than the others since he's busy as a human 808.
1:42 Yes. Almost every single man in the whole world can hit that note. Fun fact, for mans is much easier goes lower than neutral voice, than upper. For example Scott Hoiyng in "standing by" makes bassline with D2 notes which is very impressive
Yeah, you just heard Mitch's lowest note in a studio recording - A2. It's decently low, honestly, not just for Mitch. There's no official video and he struggles with the low end a bit live so it's nowhere near as clean. Definitely the studio version was the best choice.
It’s Mitch, as it was recorded in April 2017 and Matt didn’t join PTX until September. If you listen very carefully, you can hear Mitch’s unique vocal tone even that low.
There are a few live versions of this out there, just avoid the 2016 Hollywood Bowl (with orchestra). The microphones and accoustics were horrible (not to mention it's the only time I've heard Mitch make a mistake).
It's not just how ridiculous his range is, or how good he sounds at both ends of it, but it's the wy he can rise so seemlessly through it, it's stunning & perfection to listen too

A new way to get Mitch slapped!

Mitch sings a cover of Graveyard that is in his lower register and it is awesome. It gets stuck in my head every time I hear it.
I adore him singing The Graveyard, it's so hauntingly beautiful.
FACTS!!!@@hawkeyescoffee6399
Mitch’s lower register is so rich!!! I love his voice so much!
I will forever be mad at them for not releasing a music video for this, it’s one of my favorite covers they’ve ever done. I think Avi leaving was probably why. That and under the rainbow.
that note always renders me speechless! you wanna get mitch slapped again? check out their christmas under the stars live performance of “carol of the bells.” it’s always christmas with pentatonix lol. mitch literally does not breathe for over a minute. basically the whole song in one breath 😳

Agreed. As much as I love all their songs and always love hearing Mitch sing in his lower register, Anchor is my absolute Favorite song of theirs.
6 octaves... Yes indeed that's Mitch's vocal range!!!
I agree with you: A song that I’ve heard so often that I never thought I want to hear it ever again. But this was great.
Mitch goes lower than I can and almost higher than I can in this song. He is phenomenal. It's why he will always be my favorite male vocalist.
Rock my world!!!
Glad to see I'm not the only one who had to replay the chorus the first time I heard it, to be sure that was indeed Mitch at the low end. It's not something we hear a lot of, but somehow it doesn't surprise me a whole lot to find out he can go that low - and that well!
This r3action made me laugh. Mitch has a phenomenal range, and I love his lower tones. Check out his cover of Graveyard. It’s beautiful
WOW! I have been listening to PTX forever and I have never heard Mitch sang that low, what a nice surprise. I know he has a wide vocal range but 1st time hearing him go that low. Would love to hear more of that from Mitch. Love, love, love PTX!!!
That’s what makes PTX so awesome, they all have incredible range…
WOW MITCH!!! Love the lower register!! Great reaction. Thanks.
I had this on repeat for quite some time. One of my favorites and indeed an upgrade. I really loved the original and this is even better!
That was great. Mitch is just breathtaking. Thanks!
I remember the original so well, and the video was amazing. Only once I've heard Mitch sing that low. I was in one of his High School performances. He has a range so much larger than anyone ever expected! I really enjoyed this. Upgrade for sure!

I remember this one as well. Definitely was overplayed. Love your reaction.❤
I’m old enough! That video was on MTV every hour for about 2 years if I remember correctly (or felt like it was 😛). Loved the original and love the PTX version ❤️
Yeap, Mitch. Incredible.
Hi D, thanks for the reaction . Upgrade?, for me just different and equally good, maybe a little better. Yes, remember the group Aha and especially the video for this song.

Oh yeah...I remember when it came out. And the overplay was only tolerable because the video was so ground-breaking and awesome.
I absolutely Love Mitch. He rarely sings as we know in his lower register but when he does ❤️😍🥰. Scott has been using his lower register more too. like in the first verse of Sound of Silence. Now I want to hear Kirstie 's lower register too.
Never heard this one before. Would love to see another Avi Kaplan teaction. Its been a while. Recommend Othetside or It knows me.
I missed this one also. Yep, that sounds like Mitch. Great reaction D!!!

Wow!!
This is very similar to the original, except no instruments. Only Mitch can do the crazy high chorus and he does it effortlessly.
Avi and Kevin just slay this song.
I like their version of Bugle Boy!
1:42 Yes. Almost every single man in the whole world can hit that note. Fun fact, for mans is much easier goes lower than neutral voice, than upper. For example Scott Hoiyng in "standing by" makes bassline with D2 notes which is very impressive

Loved the original Aha version, but this one was pretty good. Not sure it is an upgrade like many of their songs are.
This is from the Avi era. From the Classics album.
Mitch just showing off that range.....and he's not anywhere near the top...crazy. 👽👽👽👽👽
Finally
Still does...
It would have been cool if they upgraded the video and did that too.😊
If you haven’t listen to the lyric video for Praying
#DanVasc covers this as well. Check his out
Its Mat
It’s Mitch, as it was recorded in April 2017 and Matt didn’t join PTX until September. If you listen very carefully, you can hear Mitch’s unique vocal tone even that low.
Avi was still there
Mitch is perfect but this one isn’t an upgrade for me.
