    Literally just picked up my FX30 a week ago and my only negative so far is the battery life, outside of that can't wait to keep shooting with it!

    A big fan of the FX30. Agreed, ND filter would be nice. The menu design is also waaaaay better than A7lll's and better than most Sony menus, period. It is very intuitive. Enjoy the multiple, easy access buttons/functions. As a professional longtime Canon user - used for docs, international stories, promos, etc... I've become very comfortable in the FX30 skin.

    I’m a big fan of the Sony FX30. Built-in ND filter/s would be nice for sure. More battery life always comes in handy. I’ve never used less than the 4K option.
    Cool video ✌️😎!

    HD in the fx30 is binned, not downscaled. That's why it looks so bad. There's no reason they couldn't have made the 1080 60p downscaled as well but they didn't :v

      I recently owned the Canon r7, and it's the same problem. It's annoying that they don't improve it... for me at least

    I just don't get it why Sony doesn't put this sensor in the body of the NX80! It would be the perfect camcoder with removable lens.
    I don't have the money for an FS5,6 or 7. The other manufacturers like Canon or Panasonic do the same. Which is quite shameful.

      They have pretty much abandoned the prosumer camcorder. No more innovation. Remember about 15 years ago sony made that aps-c camcorder vg10 or something like that. It would be nice if they brought it back with newer features, but they probably won't

    I hate how bad HD is in Sony. Lumix HD looks so nice. I like having that option.

    Interesting takes on the FX30 and battery life and I'm certain the fan pulling power has a lot to do with it. This camera is on my short list for sure and I hope that Sony comes out with a high capacity Z battery or an improved version that compensates for the fan.

      Actually, I hope they invest in some of that same power-saving nanometer-sized electronics you can find in computers. So that you may be able to do that 200 frames-second 8K 10-bit 4:2:2 video if you want, but also chug along at common old 4K 50 fps at low power. If you don't need to run the fan because the camera runs that cool, you can save even more power. And keep the battery at the size it is.
      Built in ND could be nice in the hot summer sun, but I'm not too much into "cinematic" and can manage with a smaller aperture so it isn't all that important to me at least.

      @jaystechvue 10 місяців тому +1

      @@haraldthi Yeah I think the technology is definitely there. The price tag of such a thing is another passed on to consumer.

    Sony 1080p footage is really awful. From being a full Sony APSC shooter i changed all my gear to Fujifilm, even the X-T2 (2016) has better FHD footage. I was hopping FX30 improved that regard but I guess i'll stay with fuji

    • @MichaelWTurner
      @MichaelWTurner  10 місяців тому

      Do you use their AF for video? What's your opinion on that?

    • @K.Saniaga
      @K.Saniaga 10 місяців тому

      @@MichaelWTurner Yes I do. I make wedding videos, record live events and choreographs, so AF is a tool that I use often but I don't rely 100% on it, sometimes I know my subject won't move back and forth, only side to side so I change to MF or I focus lock my camera. Since X-T3 4th generation sensor and processor the AF from fuji has been good enough for my needs. The X-T2 has given me some AF issues so I use it as a back-up and as main camera on simple events. I recently bought the X-S20 and AF has improved.
      I know many people crave for Sony AF but I don't miss that much.

    I know there's no such thing as the perfect camera, but the manufacturers must surely know what to make to dominate the market. Even just combining the best attributes of the GH6 and FX30 would get pretty damn close in my opinion. But what would be a real game changer, is if all the manufacturers could get round the table and agree on some standardization protocols. Just imagine a world where you only needed to buy one style of battery mount, XLR adapter, or every lens you'd ever bought fitted all your different camera's without the need for an adapter! Personally, I think if Sony just incorporated external SSD recording to their higher end models, then they would see sales sky rocket, for barely any further R&D or related costs. And lets face it, if Apple can put the technology into a phone, and not increase the purchase price that much over the outgoing model, then why can't Sony? but maybe that feature will be in the FX30 or FX3 mkii Here's hoping :)

    • @MichaelWTurner
      @MichaelWTurner  10 місяців тому

      I think they would lose too much money that way. I think there is a lot of financial gain when things are proprietary. It also makes it harder to jump ship

    Hi Michael thanx for the information about fx 30
    4k is better because downssample 6k
    1080p is regular not downsample from the 6k :(
    But Im still happy w 1080 240fps 🤙
    I think fx30 main problem is crop in almost every move ;(

    I just purchased this camera and am very impressed how good it is. Any features I'd love in addition like shutter angle and false color have been mentioned already and may eventually be added in firmware updates, but are minimal given you can now shoot with 24fps x 1/48 instead of 1/50 shutter, attach a monitor for false color, record DCI 4k, desqueeze anamorphic in camera and such good autofocus really still make this camera a steal for its price. If you are a student or registered with a college or holiday sales you can get the fx30 for 1500-1600 which makes it an even better offering.

    Fair take. The cons you have mentioned are not really an issue for me because I fully rig it and always shoot 4K. I mean who use a cinema camera barebone nowadays.
    Also you gotta do ninja walk even using gimbal to reduce micro jitter, especially for smooth shots like that. Or gimbal+gyroflow workflow. Keep up the good work.

    Mike, one more question about the Ulanzi NP-F01 power unit. The one I received has a C- power output of 5V-2A, 9V-2A, 12V-2A .Just checking if this is the one you have, thanks

    Mike, appreciate your videos on the FX-30, I have had mine for 4 months or so. Have had Panasonic GH- cameras since they came out. Got the FX-30 because of sharp pic and fast auto focus. My question for you if you can help me is on your external power unit where did you get the cable that goes from it to the USB-C on camera. My power unit is a Neewer unit for NP-style batteries. It has a 7.4V out and a 12V out--the round type with pin in middle--- just need the cable from it to USB-CC input on camera I saw you video on the power unit when it 1st cam out. Thanks

    You've never used a black magic clearly. The battery life on the fx30 is way better than those cameras. Not as good as some cameras but still much better than the black magic which is the closest competitor in that price range. Also why are you buying this camera to use hd? Just scale your 4k footage to a 1080 frame it'll look amazing.

      Weddings take up a ton of hard drive space. I would prefer not to shoot the entire thing in 4k, but I have no choice. My clients don't care about 4k. Been doing weddings for about 8 years now and not one person has ever asked for it. It's cool to have the ability to crop in in post, but I don't need it for the entire wedding day. The shutter angle you mentioned is a good one, so is false color.
