  • If you think you've got water in your intercooled engine, you'd better test your intercooler for a leak! Here we show the process to determine if your intercooler is good, or whether you need to get a second job to buy a new one!

    Other way to confirm a leak internally. Is remove intercooler, fill the air chamber with water and blast compressed air into the water feed on the intercooler. (so opposite of how it would normally run) if you see air bubbling up its got a leak :(
    Last thing to suggest is when you put all the hoses back in you should do a leak test on your hoses this is where 90% of your boost issues will come from.

    ... but can you make a grilled cheese sandwich? 👍
    As a Sea Doo and motorcycle owner, I always enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and the time it takes to put these videos together.
    I love Canada, America's top hat. 😊
    I cycled from Vancouver to the Mexican border a number of years ago and will never forget the beauty of the people there and terrain of Canada. I've traveled all over America, and I deeply love my country, but that short stay in that area of your country left a lasting impression. Vancouver, I've never seen such a beautiful city... and I've never experienced such a respect for cyclists as I did there. Telling friends of mine about that experience I'd say... "If I so much as thought of crossing a road as a cyclist traffic would come to a halt!"
    I'm 57... I hope I have the opportunity to visit, to experience your country, people, once again... but for a longer period.
    I follow another UA-cam'r, Foresty Forest... stunning visuals, content.
    A bit too much coffee it would appear, please forgive the long winded showing of respect and admiration...
    And the grilled cheese question, I would imagine by now you know why I asked.
    You're going to have to film it! 👍
    I hope you two are doing well... thanks again!

      Hey, thanks very much for the kind words! We love living here ...a bit rainy, but when the sun shines we forgot about all the months of cloud and rain. If you're every up in the White Rock area, make sure you bring your motorbike/Sea-Doo and we'll go for a ride! - Mario

      Mario, I’d love that... thanks!
      So now I’m guessing you didn’t know what I meant by the sandwich comment. lol
      Kevin Shaw, (Watercraft Journal), was asked whom he follows on UA-cam and you two were mentioned and are thought quite highly of. His words... he watches everything you put out and that if you put a video out on how to cook a grilled cheese sandwich he’d watch it. It was a couple minute video put up in the last week or two... it’s the second time he’s mentioned you two in recent months and always with respect.

      It could be. PWC show how to do another test that will confirm if you’ve got a leak. Check out the video here and good luck: ua-cam.com/video/bRiv66Am0Yo/v-deo.html

    Speaking of leaks....I'm still getting familiar with my SeaDoo. After riding I notice a little bit of water on the floor of the engine compartment. Is this normal? Since it's closed loop cooling I expected the hull to be dry. Your input is greatly appreciated.

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, a little water at the bottom of the hull is normal. You should not have very much water, though. The harder you ride, the more jumps you do, etc. the more spray that will come in through your carbon ring seal.

Or are we looking for hissing on this test. My 260 gtx won't reach 8000rpm. It maxes about 7700. Then drops back to 7k... then surges 7300 7000 etc

      Have you checked your oil for any water/coolant contamination?

      @@3ftDeepChannel just bought machine - it had a fresh oil change. Bought a pair of them - the other runs 8050 rpm @ 67 mph. This one not getting there. Siphoned gas out last night (smells good- looks good) but will try fresh fuel run this weekend. I'm just concerned about whether the intercooler has to leak zero, or what is the pass/fail... Maybe I'll just throw a new intercooler in it. Then onto supercharger I guess... but ugh IS machine not easy access.

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  Рік тому

      Even if it’s relatively new, you need to check your oil for any possible sign of water/coolant intrusion. That will indicate what type of problem you (may) have. I doubt you have a fuel problem unless it sat in storage for a long time with the tank relatively empty and water got in. If so, it will be at the bottom of the tank and difficult to access. I wouldn’t replace the intercooler until you confirm that’s the issue. It’s very expensive.

    Can a bad intercooler give u missing in acceleration with blowing out black smoke from exhaust?

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  Рік тому

      Yes and probably not. You can lose acceleration with a leaky intercooler dumping water into your air intake, but it wouldn’t normally be black. Sounds like you may have a cylinder issue. I suggest checking the compression in each cylinder. Actual values will range, but they should be within 10 PSI of each other. Good luck.

    Love your videos. I got a question on a 2019 rxtx that is losing speed after the ski warms up. Will do 68 the first lap or two and then the speed gradually goes down to about 54 mph. Last fall I replaced the stock intercooler bc it was all dirty with blow by thinking that was the cause. Also installed a catch can at that point. When I remove the fuel rail and cycle the fuel pump a few times the ski seems to perk back up. Would there still be contamination from the dirty intercooler? Dirty injectors? I’m at a loss here, any help would be appreciated. Has 90 hours on it if that makes a difference.

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  3 роки тому

      Hmmmm, is the ski stock ? here's a few things I would check:
      - Any fault codes ?
      - Pressure test the new intercooler, it might have a leak just because it's new doesn't necessarily mean it's good.
      - Check supercharger slip.
      - Since the fuel rail thing changes how it runs check the fuel filter in the tank and see if you can monitor fuel pressure while riding.

    If it doesnt have a bleeding port is the process the same?

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  3 роки тому +1

      Essentially, you just need to block off any outlet ports so you can pressurize the system.

      @@3ftDeepChannel would you just taking the hose off at the throttle body and reving the engine with water running through a hose would do the trick of knowing if its broken? By simply seeing if water comes out?

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  3 роки тому +1

      Well, if it’s a very small leak you probably wouldn’t see anything that way. Another way to check is using the system that PWC muscle describe in a recent video. Also check them out. Good luck.

    Would a bad intercooler cause really bad milky oil ?
    ~2014 rxp 260

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  Рік тому

      Well, it’ll cause water to get into the air intake, so some water could get into the oil. You should check it out for a water leak. It your oil is getting milky fast though, it’s more likely a head gasket issue, leaky oil cooler, or other such issue. If you remove the oil and let it settle, you should be able to tell if it’s water or coolant. Either way you need to deal with it very quickly before the water/coolant does damage to your engine. Good luck.

      @@3ftDeepChannelsaltwater attacks everything here in the Bahamas, my dad and I used to purchase a number of broken 6-8 year-ish Seadoo 4tec skis from a marina for cheap and milky (water in the) oil and low oil pressure was usually caused by a corroded oil cooler 4 out of 5 times, blown head gaskets were rare. Look for separation at the seams of the oil cooler and pressure test to be sure . Cleaning out the oil pump strainers, a new oil cooler, a new oil filter and 1 or 2 oil changes after a short run usually got it fixed without a complete teardown
