I am an old retired person with a story. In my own life, my dad passed suddenly at a young age leaving behind my mother and a bunch of kids. An older woman in our church advised my mother to not make any huge decisions for one full year. This advice was carefully considered and followed. In one year, we moved back to our original hometown to be nearer many family members. In the meantime, we all learned to be more independent than we probably would have been had we moved back 'home' immediately. Also, I personally learned what it meant to fully rely on God's provision since we had no earthly father anymore.

This is all so confusing to me. At a time when one wants to mourn and learn how to fly again after the loss of a beloved spouse is hard enough. Then, to have to deal with all this probate and expenses is really hard. Thank you for this post. It is very helpful, especially for someone like me whose husband dealt with all the bills, payments, and maintenance of our home and vehicles etc... Who knew death would be so confusing. Thanks again. 👍

      How are you dojng now.
I noticed your comment was 6 months ago.
Im 2 months in to my wifes desth from cancer and it seems Ive only got about half of my problems ironed out.
My wife was the finance portion of the marriage and I took care of the house, vehicles , kids, etc.
We also each had a LLC which both pretty much came to a grinding halt when she was diagnosed with cancer and had a major surgery right off the bat.
I was now taking care of her , the kids, the house, the vehicles, and the bills.
I was clueless on most of the financial stuff and after she died I was thrust into that role and was ckueless.
I had to probate the will also.
It has been insane and Ive never had so much stress in my entire life and all the red tape has forced me to not even have a grievjng process as everyone wanted their pound of flesh and had zero remorse or compassion.

Go in person to a Social Security Office because they put you on hold for hours if you call. Show up on Wed. or Thurs. I got tired of waiting for at least an hour on the phone. I went in person and they interviewed me in 20 minutes. They then gave me an appointment in two days which completed the process.

I’m in trouble with California Tax Board because after my husband and away in 2015; I had no idea that he wasn’t paying for California taxes just filing them! I found all the tax letters and never being opened! So, I opened them and found out that he was filing under his name, my name and some with both names when filing! I called the IRS and they said “forget about those! And they would take time to assess everything!” I did call caliber Tax Board and an agent there, basically said the same thing, not to worry because they needed time for assessing everything! I finally got tax warnings from IRS and California Tax Board; that I needed to file some years again! I was scared to get such short notices, not ever knowing how to file these forms! I’ve settled with the IRS and now making small payments monthly! California taxes are being thrown at me to pay all the taxes owed, by June 27th in the amount of $57,000 in back taxes and interest fees! Help me! Not only that but also I’ve been scammed by a tax company that said they were going to help me with taxes and didn’t do anything! Thanks, Cynthia

Yeah…. My spouse passed 10.2023. I took care of his funeral and then sat on the insurance money for 6 months just in case. Also, I tithed his mother, brother and sister money also. Now I just found out today that my mother in law allowed my husband’s niece to fix my husbands Harley without my permission. I balked and then I prayed….and then I responded in such a way so as to inform them that I didn’t appreciate not being consulted.
