This is the second number of [MusicalPipers] Project, “ Waving Through a Window “ from the musical Dear Evan Hansen!
[MusicalPipers] is a hybrid storytelling OC project of mine. The story is about two musical majoring students, Eugene and Wendy are practicing and growing to get the main position for their graduation show, “The Pied Piper”. Their musical stage will be uploaded to youtube (in animatic form) and their backstories of the show will be uploaded to Twitter, Instagram, and Webtoon canvas (in cartoon form)!

the switch from Eugene being herself and her being Evan is handled so well! It's a song that reflects her current situation and my god you can feel the emotion. The last shot, the branch snapping and the 3D turn around are astounding!

Who's the female from 1:30 to 1:58?? And I think she comes up again behind the stage curtain crying and the script is riped.
It makes sense this isn’t in the context of Eugene performing like the other animatics are, because she’s barred from the class play.
Yet even without an audience, she still winds up performing because she loves it.
But of course there’s no one there, because that’s what her life feels like-bearing her heart to an empty theatre. Like waving though a window….

Eugene!!!! This song really puts into perspective how much shit she gets put through! I hope she heals well and gets an excellent grade for this!
I could see her journey as its own musical, about a young, ambitious student going to a theater school and her struggle to make it there, and in addition to the songs she sings on stage, for auditions and performances, she also sings about the steps on her journey, and all the songs are from various musicals that reflect her current situation.

Eugene’s ratian story is so sad but relatable as being an Asian in the theatre arts it feels like I have a certain wall between what I have to do and what I want to do and people judgeing (sorry I’m not that good at English). This animation is just amazing and so are you . FIGHTING !! :D

"We start with stars in our eyes" really hit me in the heart tbh, especially with the innocent mouse looking at the script frames
Yeah I’m gonna be real, you managed to use this song WAY more effectively than the actual musical it’s from!
That's the thing about animation. They're more expressive with music. Been that way since the birth of Disney
3:04 this scene is very well done. Having Eugene in the middle of the crosswalk surrounded but other pedestrians and the way you showed that she's invisible to everyone is powerful. The speed of the camera movement and how kept paced with the vocal singer shows the stressed and anxiety Eugene was going through. Let's not forget the transition from the street to the stage and how Eugene feels more alive and seen on stage than in real life and the only place she could express herself. That's how I interpret it. Very Powerful.
The "tap, tap, tapping on the glass, waving through a window" being a phone screen at 1:00 is such a good way of literal-ising the metaphor. Top tier!

The song is far more sympathetic when performed by a character that isn't a borderline sociopath
your animatics are so atmospheric and pretty omg!! and the fact that your characters are acting out these musicals in theater is such a unique idea. this animatic turned out lovely, thank you for all your hard work!!

The scene from 2:27 to 2:32 is definitely one of my favorites!! The expression of Eugene and the connections made between their IRL life and the stage are beautiful.
I also wanna appreciate the fact that Wendy is seen a lot less, almost not at all during this animatic compared due to the fact that she’s been busy (as shown in the comic) and not able to hang out with Eugene as much.
From 2:40 to 3:05 it created a lovely and suspenseful build-up to the 3D and the fluidity and feeling in that, it’s just, omg. The camera movement too!! During the build-up I loved the falling of the leaf and the phone cracking and the look of Evan!Eugene sort of looking like they’re having flashbacks to when they fell.
Something else I really like is that when the characters are in costume, it’s very recognizable as both the character they’re playing and who they are IRL.
Wonderful work and remember to stay hydrated as well as take care of yourself :D

You really need to put a warning label on this thing, because good GOD is that some pure, unfiltered _agony_ right there... and it is just far too familiar for words. And as countless others have said, the falling scene, the spinning shot, the stage... all just beautiful, just phenomenal. I can't wait to see where the story goes, how this evolves... and for a bit of wishful thinking, I'm hoping that Wendy gives Eugene the push she needs... to take Her Shot.

the good thing about the animatics and the comics is that you can watch the animatics without the comics and still enjoy them but when you do read the comics it adds a whole other layer of meaning to it (also thank you for introducing me to dear evan hansen!)
Dear Evan Hansen is my least favorite musical so I 100% only watched this for your work, and it's stunning of course! The whole scene where the camera rotates Eugene is incredible! I really just love your use of the camera in general. *chef's kiss*

This is FANTASTIC!! My brain is moving too fast to say words but like, this is giving me so many thematic ideas about what it means to be in-character acting in a play, the way scenes where Eugene is playing Evan vs being herself just seamlessly cut together and sometimes it's completely interchangeable. It feels like in her mind, it all feels like it's hers when she's acting. And like, the word 'acting' becomes so funny when you think about it like that, because it makes it sound like acting is casual or pretend, but it feels very intense and personal to be a good actor. Hopefully you can read some of that and it wasn't entirely just word-soup. Thank you for sharing this animatic with everyone, I am so happy I got to watch it!

The way I GASPED to this whole shot, Eugene's expressions are so good and just the song fits so well I have literal chills with every frame
I've been listening to this song all the time for weeks, it just fits with where I'm at right now and I really feel it.
I watched your Wicked animatic and it was amazing, I'm trying really hard to improve and watching it helped me realize that tone shifts in animation can be fluid with limited frames and limited colors, story beats matter, meaning behind it matters, and skill and practice make a world of a difference along with understanding why something works even if you don't understand in the moment as long as you figure it out and practice and play with that.
There's so much in your animatics that inspire me to try more and work harder, and it's amazing.
Sorry if that was really really long just to boil down to "I love this song and your art is amazing!"
I can’t even begin to describe how beautiful this is. I feel like I’m watching a masterpiece and the more I watch it just gets better and better!!! Your animatics are some of the best quality one I’ve ever seen and I’m literally gushing over how amazing everything is. The way you show their stories is really unique to other artists I've seen (not that the way others may do it is wrong of course) it's just that yours is so unique and interesting to me. The scenes towards the end were so nice to watch and anyone who sees this animatic would definitely be able to understand the crazy things Eugene had been through and distinguish the past and present, which i know is super hard to do! Keep it up! 😁

I was not expecting to cry to a DEH song tonight, great job!
I may be late, but this content is so underrated! I wish other people could see how good of an artist you are, and this channel deserves more attention. This song really fits the great aesthetic of the animation with events happening at certain points in the song to make you feel the same emotion that the character is. The story was really fun to try and guess what it was, when the animation was sewn together in a non-linear flashback type way! I don't have the words to express how much I love this animation, and I thank you for this, it made my day a lot better :D

ive watched this four of five times now and that spin keeps getting me, i'm no expart but it looks like a pain to 3d 2d images like that
or maybe its an optical illusion, because the spin changes everything's location to eachother and that can make flat things look like they thin out
okay am sorry but those 360 scenes reminded me of "Nothing let to lose" in Tangled:the series. OVERALL THIS WHOLE VID IS AMAZING! INDESCRIBABLE PIECE IT IS

I've been new to your content recently, and this is my favorite out of all of them. How you contextualize everything here, from the thumbnail to the last segment of the song, is something I can't put to words. Hope you'll get yourself an audience someday, cause so far, everything, along with your other content, demonstrates how far you would go.

I relate both to Eugene and Evan in this video. This year has been one of my darkest and saddest as a senior in highschool realizing how alone I am. This year I cut a emotionally draining and depressive relationship between me and my theatre teacher and the environment I face there. None of my 'once-friends' from theatre talk to me anymore. My father figure choir teacher retired last year, and choir doesn't feel the same anymore. And my classes are an absolute bog down, taking college level and prep classes, working a part time job, and having being almost completely cut off from my closest friends, I'm struggling both emotionally and socially to cope.
I feel isolated as I'm waving through a window. And I also am deeply hurt, because as hurtful as it was and still is, I miss my theatre life. I still crave the stage and performing, but I know I'll never be the stereotypical lead. Because I look different, kind of like Eugene. I am bigger, and of a different race, and even if I can sing and dance and love to do so, Im usually just another extra who can't socialize without messing it up, and who stood in the corner watching people in groups laugh and be in the spotlight with all their charm and beauty.
And I really tried, but it was always hard for me not to hate myself in the process.
And even though I should feel better that I'm done, I don't.
Anyways, Im just saying I relate. I forgot why I wrote this. Sorry for the sadness dump,
