I found a PVS-14 Gen2+ Lvl 3 - green (with certification). It has one 3mm to 6mm dead spot just to the left side of center in the tube. It's listed at $1800. It doesn't have the flip up mount but does come with the head band and bag. It does work...I checked. What's the difference between gen 2+, gen 3, and gen 4? Oh, the Donger looks great!
Do not get Gen 2, it is 1/5 the performance of 3 at nearly the same price and only lasts half as long. To answer your question, the photocathode material defines the generation: II is Silicon, III is Gallium Arsenide, and IV is made up bullshit because there is no gen IV.
@@Sman7290 It is a higher quality gen 2 tube, but it still uses a Si photocathode. If my memory serves me, the term was used back in the day to describe added features that weren't on old gen 2 stuff, like autogating. I do NVG run and gun matches, and I can tell you that even Gen 3 stuff can struggle under a canopy or in the rain, and Gen 2 can be rendered unusable for navigation in low light conditions. Gen 2 was good stuff when it came out but anyone who can legally buy Gen 3 is better off doing so. You can save money by getting a surplus mount, and by getting a vampire light instead of a full blown LAM, but you should not get a Gen 2 tube when Gen 3 is available.
@@Sman7290 If you live in a really urban environment, gen 2+ can work, if you plan on going inna-woods, gen 3 is king. There are plenty of used 14's out there with onmi 7 or 8 tubes for less than $1800. I sold my 14 about a month ago for $1400 which was right at what I had invested in it. Check tacswap and look for a night vision buy sell group on FB, people move stuff on there constantly (that's where I buy and sell nods mostly). 2+ is slightly less bright than 3. In urban environments it works just as well as 3. In back county 3 will outperform 2+ considerably. 3 is the standard and ranges in specs and price. 4 is really not a thing. L3 Filmless White Phos was considered gen 4 for a time but the govt removed that nomenclature because it really didn't meet the specs for a totally new generation leap.

An Ultimak rail with an Aimpoint PRO is all you really need, plus a white light. If you add a vampire light you can use this bad boy with NVGs.
