Grandmas in my hometown don't need those steps. Wait for the rain, plant it in Open space, put some tree branches for it to climb and forget bout it, Rain and soil will take care of it👍
Can you do watermelon? This video is really informative and inspiring. It's very digestible! Thank you and will be using it for my cucumbers crop! I exceptionally like your added info on soil/night temperature.
None of this is necessary. We planned straight into soil with no trellis, and waters regularly like our lawn and three plants grew more cucumbers than we could eat and pickle combined
I plant three times as many cucumbers as I need. When they all start coming in at the same time I pick and pickle. Then I pull 75% of the plants so I'll have fresh cucumbers all year. That way I get my pickles and I don't have way too many fresh. Plus you have room for another crop.
about the only thing I did was water my cucumbers and they grew like crazy they exploded all over my garden I didn't have to pick the first flowers and I'm bad I think that's a waste of time I had plenty of cucumbers I think I fed my entire small town
All of the first flowers should be pinched off which simply means removing them from the plant. This can be done with fingers (literally pinching them) or with pruning shears. I do this for the first 3-4 weeks after transplanting to let the plant just put out foliage growth
Sixth tip, when the powdery mildew comes and it will, treat with milk or whey and tears, cry a lot right into the soil... cukes love the tears of gardeners!
I know what you mean! Definitely not easy - so you could always just try it on one plant if you wanted and then see how it does compared to the other ones :)
Thank you thank you thank you so much for making this so short into the point I appreciate not having to listen for a long period of time. I will look to see what else you have.
Please help me grow cucumbers. My cucumber plants are being destroyed by cucumber beetles every year. I have given up planting cucumbers and cantaloupes. Very sad! Thank you.
City people be like: in 60 seconds. Why don't I grow all my food. Country people: wait a few months from planting and be sure to look after them for maximum productivity
They do! But you can hand pollinate them by using a QTip and taking the pollen from the male flower over to the female flower. Additionally, since it will be winter you'll want to make sure you're heating the greenhouse to at least 70F/20C for them to do well, and to help them grow to their absolute fullest potential a grow light is massively helpful!
do not pick the first flowers off, itll stunt your plant big time. youll put it on pause for 3-4 weeks wich is not a good idea especially if you have winter climates or frost for 6+ months outa the year. those 3-4 weeks matter
Depending on where you live and other variables, yes. Some people do it and have great results, others not so much. Try it with a couple plants and see how they compare to the rest. That's the only way you'll know for sure.
Yup that's fine! Alternatively you can also water with rainwater collected - I'm hoping to put more of a system together around this for this coming year :)
Vermiculite retains moisture while perlite does not. So more often than not I prefer to have mediums that retain moisture in my beds, such as vermiculite :)

Great question! Yes separate the seedlings to accommodate your garden spacing so they are not overcrowded as they develop. You can choose the strongest seedlings out of the 5 and compost the rest :)
first tip is nonsense to a new grower, guess this is advice for people that already know what you’re talking about, in which case they probably already know this stuff?
Here's something I just learned and I can see now why mine didn't do good inside starters need wind to help make root system and stem bigger and better without wind you'll get really stemmy plants and roots won't be very strong
@@trygveevensen171 I’m in northern Ontario. I started mine indoors and planted them out the last week of may. It was driving me crazy that they didn’t look right so I pulled all but 1 plant and directly sowed the rest. This was about the first week of June. The directly seeded cucumbers were only about a week behind the plant I left in producing fruit and the best part was this year I had 4 cucumber beetles which I promptly dispatched and usually I can kill 40+ a day all summer!
Why are cucumbers? Bitter?.. my neighbor’s.. and a lot of us in the neighborhood have that problem ..the cucumbers were very bitter also.. they were big, beautiful and bitter.. had to throw them away. We think it is the soil.🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
Haha! Interesting. I love cucumbers and personally don't find them overly bitter :) Some that get too much sun can be on the more bitter side for sure!
Not sure if you've tried using worm castings and our 444 superfood but the combination of those two will have the plants green and lush as a result of the nutrients and microbes!
The reasoning behind this method is it allows the plant to focus more on development in its early stages. Allowing more energy to be focused on production later on, when I leave the flowers on.
Absolutely! You'll need a 5gallon grow bag to plant them in and ideally 2 grow lights to ensure they are getting enough light. After that you're off to the races!

Consistent water is important. Mulching your cucumber bed is ideal, so that the plant gets consistent moisture.

Is that the first one on the vine ?
Or the first cucumber ?
