I'm going to say; very very cool piece of kit and awesome step in terms of technology, however even from watching 10mins of your video here, I can't see it being a TrackIR killer. You don't have the fidelity or the control of the TrackIR, and it showed when you were doing gun runs in the chopper on the infantry below. You could tell your eyes were looking at all the individual soldiers, but because the EyeX was picking up that eye movement it was moving the screen around a fair amount making it disorientating and hard to focus on a single target. For large movements like glancing down alleyways and roads to the left and right, it works, but for small tight fidelity of picking out individual targets in a cluster or scanning the horizon or other parts of the screen like the ammo or health counters, I don't see it working as well as TrackIR does. TrackIR also has the added immersion factor of having both head and eye movement being separate like you do IRL, but EyeX ties eye and head movement together into 1. Like I said though, very very cool piece of kit, would definitely like to give it a try as it's an awesome step in terms of technology and adding alternative ways for people to play. But even with TrackIR's downsides (agree with you with the added wires), for now I can't see it working quite as well. Look forward to seeing you use it more though, and seeing if you can get it fully calibrated, more to your liking and you get used to it more and seeing what your thoughts are then too! Cheers Devil! :)
+Yorkie065 Yes and in real life you move you head for the direction and then scan with your eyes independently around so with an eye tracker you actually eliminate that swivel and put it all on the eye. Doubt that could ever feel better no matter how well programmed. But I';m happy to find out that I';m wrong. I can see how its good for arma though for a few degrees left and right maybe in addition to alt free look.
+Yorkie065 Agreed. Also as I run a six screen setup for DCS, Elite, X-Plane, FSX etc the EyeX wont work out for me as its limited to approx 26" if I'm not mistaken. What I would love to see is this used in conjunction with TrackIR to operate switches in cockpits which we currently have to take our hands off the Hotas to grab a mouse and switch. If that could be made to work I'd buy it.
Jester814 has a slightly more objective review. But what I'd call a review is pushing it to the limit to see if it holds what it promises. For example different screen sizes or setting the values so you can look over the shoulder and see if that doesn't mess up sensitivity for looking straight because only THEN one can call it an alternative or even better than previous hardware. But I guess if a public objective outcome is not as good as promised you won't get more stuff to test and no promo codes.
+RenovatioJuris Yeah I scimed the specs for this and watched some videos, then orderd one. 15 min later my friend pointed out this... Screen size: Up to 27" Face palm and order cancelled...
+Patrick Outhier (RED-404) Thats annoying man. Sorry to hear it doesn't suit. At least you spotted it in time. GG. It looks like a great device but its just a little strange that as many move to ultrawide monitors and big screen TV's driven by the 4k prices lowering the EyeX is limited to 26". Could end up hurting them but I hope they can overcome the limitation. Small gaming innovators like this deserve some success imho.
@@fonesrphunny7242 It isn't. It's just different. The newest one can do 6DoF which is a huge improvement. it seems good but what about when you look at your ammo or mini map or health or even chat or something like that. i like the whole concept but theres alot of things that outway the pros
+captainmosaly That is one issue with FPS version it definitely shines while flying any aircraft it does have a hot key to turn on and off which might be a way around looking at your hud
+skyboundpilot Another option might be something like CS GO has where you can move the HUD closer to the center of your screen. Not sure what other games have similar options.
*DDG!*, Heres an idea to pass back onto the makers of EyeX - If you close one eye, as if you were looking down a scope. it should automatically dumb down the sensitivity to a certain level to allow you to snipe better and get more shots on target when you were flying in the chopper. It would make a lot of sense otherwise its just too sensitive for precision shooting. for CQB though it works a treat but you really need to be able to switch between sensitivities.
+RoseOfHizaki I wonder if it could detect a squint of both eyes. That might be a better alternative to closing one eye. I really like your idea though.
+TheDevildogGamer holy sh*t... that looks awesome... exspecially with the fact that it's like half of the price of Track IR. on amazon you find Track IR for around 200€ and this baby (with your code+shipping) costs me 103€ Edit: Just baught this piece of awesomness :D GG company for shipping this to the DevilDogGamer LMAO
+Hotsauce11294 Hey, is there a reason you think so? It works just as well for an individual of any ethnicity! We have done comprehensive tests on this.
say if you want to look left, wouldn't you want to look at the center of your screen and not the left side because if you look at the center then the view will go back to the original spot
This is very cool. The hardware side looks very nice and slick, wont be an eyesore on your desk / monitor. No extra wires running to your headset etc, awesome. I'll have to try this, not sure if I could ever get used to it but awesome.
I'm confused. Now if you look up at say something towards the corner of your screen and this moves your view and brings that to center of the screen. Then your no longer looking at the center of your screen so you can't see it and have to move your eyes back. Wont that then move your view back?
My one big problem with it compared to Trackir is that you are not able to move your camera side to side and back and forth. Which when peaking out into alleyways or trying to see the runway at your 10 o'clock in a Cessna 172, can really suck.
maybe it would benefit from a button to temporarily switch off taking? so if you're checking ammo, chat or subtitles it'll keep the screen centre till you've finished
When Oculus does this I'm in... because your head and your eyes move; need both inputs to be virtual. Also I want to know if that interface box has an IC that translates the movement into mouse axis. Freetrack relies on your pc cpu to do that, and if you don't prioritize the processing of the device there are stutters when data is transferred; i.e. you have to set the device priority to "realtime" or etc. Maybe multi-core cpus have changed this, been along time since freetrack, but that is why TIR was boss; it has an IC in the camera to translate the axis movements so the PC doesn't have to.
Like, I have a good question, actually two. What if you have glasses on, does it still function that well, or what if you are tired, will it still tack as well?
Can I lean in to look closer at an object? For example in X-Plane if I want to look at a GPS or tune frequencies, will my characters head lean in as I do?
Don't quite understand how it works. If you move your eyes to look at something on screen, the frustrum moves as the character's head turns and then that thing your eyes moved to look at is in the center of the screen but your eyes are looking off to one side now so you'd have to look at the center of the screen again which would move the frustrum again and so on. How is this resolved? I think what I'd like is a tool that uses the same scanning solution as EyeX, but tracks head movement instead. Call it HeadX or something, I dunno I'm not in marketing.
In fact eyex has head tracking or rather 3d positions of your eyes. And it doesn't center the screen on the object you are looking at, but just pans the screen slightly in that direction. When you look in the middle of the screen it resets the view to a forward direction again. It feels very natural, just try it ;)
so it tracks your eyes, i feel that you could combine both and then use trackir for big movements (and other 6 dof things) and this for the smaller stuff
I have been using TrackIR with a wireless headset ( G930 ) for quite a while now ( battery strapped to the frame of the headset ) without any problems. The "extra weight" if you can speak of weight at all isn't noticable, the headset is heavy enough already so it's easy to get used to it. So going wireless isn't really a problem..you just kind of look like a borg when you run around like that. Eye tracking sounds interesting, did you by any chance try out a TrackIR and EyeX together if head and eye movement would interfere? I think it would be interesting to be able to move your vision with your eyes if you only need to cover a small arc and your head if you need that extra range.
It will probably never leave testing, but Sony was testing this with the Playstation. They used the Playstation camera to track your eyes and it controlled your crosshair. They had it at one of the events and people tried it with Infamous: Second Son and they said it really did work well.
It's cool concept but probably good only for walking simulators. With this you can't look at HUD, keyboard/joystick/wheel or targets without moving camera and it probably can't be used at night without turning on lights because it looks like it lacks UV light. For me TrackIR is still the best option for head movement in games and if you want something what will work without anything strap on your head try FaceTrackNoIR. Only thing you need is webcam and software which is free and it will track movement of your face without need of any sensors.
I reckon if you had a button (on your mouse?) that disabled tracking it would work better, that way you would be able to quickly check ammo etc without moving but you could still move with the mouse.
i just got both track ir and tobii 4c. I got to say the trackir has more features with integrated with arma from what i found. 1 zooming in ( by moving your head closer to the sensor ) 2 tilting (by titling by your head ) these 2 features are missing from tobii 4C. For those reasons I am going to back to track IR , please enlighten me if i am wrong question : it is possible to aim using the tobii 4c in arma?
Eye tracking seems like a problem. If you're checking ammo, trying to select something in ace interaction, scanning the horizon you start moving. Track IR tracks your head movement and registers it as head movement. This is taking eye movement as head movement and I know that's going to mess a lot of people up.
Im skeptical... Im still getting used to my trackIR i got a 2 months ago, and still wondering if im ever going to get used to it. I wear glasses, so putting on a hat or earphones sometimes shifts my glasses around and messes with my perception. on top of that i have to move my head to the corners of my screen making me look through the very corners of my lenses wich can make perception even worse. Wonder how well this works looking down at and flipping switches in games like DCS. Thats where i have the most trouble with trackIR.
What about in flight sims..isn't it more natural to physically turn your head to look around the cockpit like in real life as with track Ir as opposed to just moving your eyes? thanks for the video
I can't see this as a TrackIR killer mainly because it doesn't have 6 degrees of freedom, and it seems a bit wonky to have your head spin when you glance at your ammo counter and shit lol Other than that, pretty cool tech. I'll keep my TrackIR though. I can appreciate the amount of work that must have gone into filtering out all the completely random eye movement and stuff
Looks like you have to hold your head almost perfectly still for it to catch your eye movements. How is your neck holding up after, say, four or five hours of gaming?
I bought this device and excited to use it in-game; however, I haven't been able to get the setup correct for it to look around in Arma 3. Any suggestions on how to setup Tobii EyeX with Arma 3?
This software could easily integrate tracking head movement as well, or even instead of, eye movement. That would fix the issues with checking your HUD and focusing on individual targets, with the added bonus of everything being completely hands (and head) free. I'm interested in seeing what they do with it and how it changes as DDG tweaks more of the settings.
I can see it being very useful, especially for gamers with impaired mobility (have a chat with ablegamers on twitter, I'm sure they'd be very interested to help promote it and get help to get more titles supported,) but for me, I think the Track IR is better for the way I play ARMA because I can look at ammo or speed/altitude HUD without moving the screen view. Also for situational awareness, being able to look over my shoulder in game with a subtle head turn with Track IR is better than having to look away from the screen to see behind me. Lastly, with track IR if I lean to one side, my player leans out to that side, incrementally like an analogue control, which is really handy for peeking out from behind cover. This looks like a great bit of kit but I wouldn't go as far as calling it a track IR killer.
Wow, this is pretty sweet. I was gonna get TrackIR but this seems way better. Plus the price point is way better. Hell for the price of TrackIR you could get this eye tracker AND Arma 3.
i just got track ir too..... but.... ya, it took a while till i got use to track ir..... now that ive had it for a month, i find my self moving my head, and wondering why my view isnt moving.
I have a question. Can you combine this with trackIR so you can simulate the movement of the head and also the movement of eyes? Thanks and great video!
i got confused by this video....does EyeX only let you move the camera in arma3? or are you able to aim your gun with your eyes too? or do you have to still aim with your mouse?
I think it would be awesome if there was a button on the product that disables it so when im playing arma and tabbed out I don't go crazy but other that that its awesome
+TheDevildogGamer Now would you recommend Track IR or this eye tracker for because it has along with the up, down, left, right, it also has forward, backwards, and lean side to side. It may be harder to use because of the wires but I'm concerned that it would be a disadvantage in a fight using the eye tracker because you can't lean forward and backwards or side to side to for example, look behind your headrest in a SU-27 in a dogfight
looking with your eyes seems kind of strange to me, maybe if they add a setting that could track would track your head that would be better. what are your thoughts on that devil?
so if you look at the top right corrner of your screen to see a target, you cant shoot becouse the crosshairs are in the middle of the screen and you are looking at the top right corrner. So how does this work?
Seems abit weird but I have one lazy eye so what will happen And I don't under stand when u look at the corner of my eye then I can't see my screen would would it be looking that way
I think if they made a smaller wireless version of trackir (idk if they have one) it would work a LOT better. Because you can still actually look at the center of the screen without having the trouble of looking at an awkward angle just to see your ammo and health. I still really like the idea though
I imagine this could be difficult in DCS? sometimes when i'm trying to flip a switch i cant keep my head perfectly still, the screen is bouncing all over the place and it makes flipping the switch a nightmare. i assume this will be the same?
is it not too restrictive with your head? like do you have to keep your head near motionless or it does not care that much as its only following your eye? :D (the price tag is not too bad... would be nice for Elite Dangerous :) ) also can you bind a key to lock up the eye tracking? for example press a key look at ammo press it again keep scanning :D
So, this video is a year and a half old now. Are you still using this or the TrackIR? At 3:49 you said that you will probably never use TrackIR again. If not, could we get a follow up as to why you went back to trackir?
I really want to see you try this with dcs...Reason being that during high stress and tasking events I feel you NEED the ability to use your head to turn and look as well as use your eyes to see instruments and to maintain bandits in a turn fight within sight. I don't see how dropping the ability to read out your instruments or HUD while in a fight is beneficial.
might sound like a dumb question, but what if u want to turn your head ingame and look in the center of the screen, is that possible? i know i wouldent get used to track ir because i never turn my head while playing, that would b weird to have to do to look around, btw what mod/game mode were you playing?
So can you move forward and backward like the TrackIR? or only move your eyes side to side? Because with the TrackIR you can lean. Can the Tobii that is my real deal breaker.. If anyone could let me know that would be great!
So when I saw this in the beginning I was thinking that it was really futuristic, and then to hear you say the same that now that this is perfected and here it brings a whole new gaming experience. What do you think the future holds? though because I mean even a month ago if you asked me what I thought of this I'd say it was in the near future (like maybe 2 years. It looks amazing though and really good at tracking I'll have to check it out
can we see a demo in DCS or War Thunder where you have to keep track of the enemy at all times in every direction? im really interested in this considering its cheaper then trackir with your code and that i dont use headsets often. saw a demo in elite dangerous but it didnt show what i was looking for.
i think eye tracking would have its disadvantages when you wan to look far in one direction since then your focusing less on the screen. but im only speculating here id like to know if that happens or not.

I can appreciate the amount of work that must have gone into filtering out all the completely random eye movement and stuff
4c does have it.
Looks like you have to hold your head almost perfectly still for it to catch your eye movements. How is your neck holding up after, say, four or five hours of gaming?
Does it work with eyewear (like eyeglasses, contact lenses)?
+Havocowsky Yup
One problem I can think off is when ur streaming and go to read chat it will move your screen when you look at chat.
I bought this device and excited to use it in-game; however, I haven't been able to get the setup correct for it to look around in Arma 3. Any suggestions on how to setup Tobii EyeX with Arma 3?
what happends if u turn of the lights in the room and you play a night map in arma. How does it work?
This looks like a great bit of kit but I wouldn't go as far as calling it a track IR killer.
sweet piece of tech, the saga continues
Wow, this is pretty sweet. I was gonna get TrackIR but this seems way better. Plus the price point is way better. Hell for the price of TrackIR you could get this eye tracker AND Arma 3.
i just got track ir too.....
but.... ya, it took a while till i got use to track ir..... now that ive had it for a month, i find my self moving my head, and wondering why my view isnt moving.
Also devil, have you tried holding ALT and using the eye movement?
I have a question. Can you combine this with trackIR so you can simulate the movement of the head and also the movement of eyes?
Thanks and great video!
Can I put this elsewhere then the bottom center of my screen? Because at the bottom center of my screen is my wheel.
what if the lights are off and the only light is your screen?
Looking forward to a follow up video to see how you like it in a couple weeks, once you get it dialed in
i got confused by this video....does EyeX only let you move the camera in arma3? or are you able to aim your gun with your eyes too? or do you have to still aim with your mouse?
I think it would be awesome if there was a button on the product that disables it so when im playing arma and tabbed out I don't go crazy but other that that its awesome
+James Cook There is
has this been tested on asains yet?
But does it work with DCS?
+William Ruiz cooper Yes!
+Tonka Dozer hopefully he makes a DCS video using it and we can see for ourselves
Do you need to be in a good lighting for this to work? it doesn't particularly explain how it works on the site.
+Waggly Cloth Np[e
Is the EyeX 6 degrees of freedom just like the track:ir or does it only do 2/3 degrees?
looking with your eyes seems kind of strange to me, maybe if they add a setting that could track would track your head that would be better. what are your thoughts on that devil?
so if you look at the top right corrner of your screen to see a target, you cant shoot becouse the crosshairs are in the middle of the screen and you are looking at the top right corrner. So how does this work?
Does this only work with windows 10?
does it still work in DCS when you lean forwards to check your instruments? so in simple does it read distance from it?
wouldn't it be better if it tracked your head movement?
Seems abit weird but I have one lazy eye so what will happen
And I don't under stand when u look at the corner of my eye then I can't see my screen would would it be looking that way
+katom2111 You can setup so it only tracks one of your eyes, the non lazy-eye.
What is the custom HUD? Is it available for download?
What is the infinity screen extension? (I already have triple monitors in nvidia surround)..thank you
Can you lean with it? Like with Track IR, when you lean or tilt your head, it reproduces it ingame. Does it works with eyeX too?
is this compaitable with all games or just arma 3
I think if they made a smaller wireless version of trackir (idk if they have one) it would work a LOT better. Because you can still actually look at the center of the screen without having the trouble of looking at an awkward angle just to see your ammo and health. I still really like the idea though
Does this work with glasses on? I'm strongly thinking of getting this.
Yup
TheDevildogGamer Cool thanks.
+TheDevildogGamer Sorry just watched it gain. Missed the part about the glasses the first time.
do you think this would be good on the hunter?
+SM17CH1PZ it is available for the hunter!
+Tobii EyeX awesome!!
will it work on my 55inch at 12ft away?
I imagine this could be difficult in DCS? sometimes when i'm trying to flip a switch i cant keep my head perfectly still, the screen is bouncing all over the place and it makes flipping the switch a nightmare. i assume this will be the same?
is it not too restrictive with your head? like do you have to keep your head near motionless or it does not care that much as its only following your eye? :D
(the price tag is not too bad... would be nice for Elite Dangerous :) )
also can you bind a key to lock up the eye tracking? for example press a key look at ammo press it again keep scanning :D
Devil, what server were you playing on I have been trying to find a tactical server to play but had no luck.
does it work if you wear glasses? I've seen some eye tracking software that can't cope with glasses
It works with glasses and lenses
The only thing is what if you want to look behind you, Maybe it would be better if used in conjunction with trackir
Would it be possible/practical to use this WITH TrackIR?
That is the question im gona work on that whenni get some free time
Wonder how it works if you have a really lazy eye
So how does it work? Does it track ur eyes?
Wow this seems awesome, nice vid, thanks for the info on it (first I've seen of it).
So, this video is a year and a half old now. Are you still using this or the TrackIR? At 3:49 you said that you will probably never use TrackIR again. If not, could we get a follow up as to why you went back to trackir?
"MY FREAKIN EYEBALLS MAN" Hell yeah, gotta love the pupils.
Can you use it with Glasses on?
I really want to see you try this with dcs...Reason being that during high stress and tasking events I feel you NEED the ability to use your head to turn and look as well as use your eyes to see instruments and to maintain bandits in a turn fight within sight. I don't see how dropping the ability to read out your instruments or HUD while in a fight is beneficial.
might sound like a dumb question, but what if u want to turn your head ingame and look in the center of the screen, is that possible? i know i wouldent get used to track ir because i never turn my head while playing, that would b weird to have to do to look around,
btw what mod/game mode were you playing?
So can you move forward and backward like the TrackIR? or only move your eyes side to side? Because with the TrackIR you can lean. Can the Tobii that is my real deal breaker.. If anyone could let me know that would be great!
+OkcMoto The movement of your eyes controls the panning of the camera in this game.
does it work if u got a lazy eye
Does it make you dizzy using it?
What kind of server did you played on? with those different weapons?
Does this work with TrackIR combined?
I am trying to find it on the site but does it work for people wearing glasses?
+Knuth938 Yup and contact lenses
+TheDevildogGamer Awesome! Thanks man
does it work for War Thunder? would love to play sim battles with it...
How about the eye strain?
i think eye tracking would have its disadvantages when you wan to look far in one direction since then your focusing less on the screen. but im only speculating here id like to know if that happens or not.
Hmm. Cheaper than TrackIR. How well would you look directly above you or behind you like in DCS when you're in a turn fighter with an enemy?
