- Firstly, lets start off with what Dominica isn't. It's not the Dominican Republic and it's not your cliché Caribbean island. Consider it Costa Rica of the Caribbean, at least in my eyes. There is no other island in this sector that remotely resembles the sheer topography wow factor that Dominica possesses. This mountainous paradise is mostly volcanic and has very few manicured beaches therefore tourism has developed rather slowly. It has a dense rain forest, freshwater lakes, hot springs and jaw dropping waterfalls - I'm talkin' national geographic status! I managed to capture some shaky amateurish video of an uncharted black sand beach not even the locals or taxi drivers know about. We tend, I think, to romanticize poverty when it's surrounded by natural beauty. It's a country that's proud of it's indigenous population, its lifestyle make its people some of the happiest in the world from what I gather. Barely scraping by on banana, aloe and soap exports this impoverished country welcomes the true eco-tourists who come to gape. Despite Dominica being a very underdeveloped island not always preferable for the average traveler, I do plan on revisiting to spend more time exploring the hidden gems for your post viewing pleasure.

My mom is from Dominican Republic and my dad is from Dominica, the nature island. I really want to visit and see the boiling lake he always tells me about.

Yes, very confusing lol. I can speak Spanish but not Creole. I'm actually visiting Dominica this August for the first time. Very excited.

Hello to my fello Dominicans (Ca, ka fait?) my mother was born from the Patrick family and raised in Coton Vielle cas, and resided & worked in Roseau. Three of her sisters married the Le Blanc brothers. Ethel married Edward who became Prime Minister. My ma 'Titsi' met my pa J T Allen, a Jamaican in the UK in 1957 at my cousin Ronald's christening! (Mrs Dodd).
Thanks for posting this video. This IS the most beautiful place on earth! I'm not just saying that because I'm Dominican either, nothing can compare to Dominica's beauty and splendor. I muted the soundtrack and listened to traditional Dominican music, and it took me back, felt like I was there again.

J Tame Out of all of the islands this place is my least favorite island. Mentality of the people is very backward. Food not good and too much forest bush. The air quality is terrible.
Nice Post. Mother is Dominican. Met my St. Lucian father there when he worked there for 2 years then returned to St. Lucia with him. That was over 5o years ago:-)

That looks like the beach down the hill from my Aunty's house? It is called Antrizel Beach in Atkinson in the Kalinago territory... There is a lovely little water fall/stream where u can wash the salt water off after your sea bath... U should cover your whole body in that black volcanic sand, best natural spar treatment ever!... Glad you had a fab time :)... Don't tell everyone thought; lets keep it our little secret ;))
i think it is secrete beach near Riviere Ciriques on the south east coast..was there four months ago

I've never been to Dominica but I have a friend there. One day I plan to visit and see as many of the 365 rivers in beautiful Dominica.

@MsSmiley541 Unfortunately i don't have his contact or remember his name. When I arrived on the island he was my taxi driver so I hired him to take me around. Everyone there is so friendly and knowledgeable of the island so you shouldn't have any issues getting around or finding places.

Btw we speak English. It is the official language and everyone is a native speaker of it. The patois/creole is a vernacular language spoken between locals.

Kriol is the Vernacular language. English is the official. They also speak French.
