They treat them just like political figures. If they say anything that’s against what the government does, they will mysteriously disappear and show up dead months later. Because the movie was just coming out and the main character is of Chinese descent being featured in the west side of the world, she was probably highly influential at that moment and that is probably why she was forced to say something in favor of what China was doing. Took a class on East Asia while in Uni. One of my favorite classes tbh. East Asia is extremely different from the rest of the world.

It's trying to represent more Chinese culture. In Chinese media, the combat is over the top with flips etc. I think that it's going to be a great movie that is more focused on actual Chinese culture. I like that Chinese culture is actually being implemented in a story set in China.

I don’t want to watch this film because I’m just so tired of Disney making a bunch of remakes or sequels. I think I’m going to honestly avoid watching anything from them unless it is something actually new or if it is a sequel that I feel is going to be good or is necessary. I know me not watching isn’t going to make a difference because everyone else will watch it and Disney will keep doing whatever makes them money. But I’m just making that personal decision for myself. I just feel like all of Disney’s recent films lack actual originality or effort compared to the older films that they are all trying to remake.

It honestly just looks to be kind of soulless, like all the remakes. Though I appreciate that they're trying something different, I'm not a huge fan of the changes. Why is the villian a witch? They replaced Li Shang, arguably one of the best disney princes, so China wouldn't boycott their movie. I think this would be a great stand alone film without Mulan being attached to it. Or maybe they could have made a movie about the real Mulan. Either way, the movie is in this weird grey area.
The reason the action might not be grounded is to replicate the tales of The Three Kingdoms, the Chinese have always hyped up the achievements of notable historical figures, like Lu Bu for example.

This does look like a good movie, better than the jungle book and maybe maleficent.(My personal favorite remake.)
It's just another mediocre and generic Disney remake only made to bring in the money from people obsessed with nostalgia.
